I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

So in preparation for this I've joined the grocery challenge thread but realise it's not only the amount I spend I need to cut but how I shop. My cupboards and freezers are fit to bursting as I'm still buying and cooking for four when there's only DS2 and I! I've been keeping a note of what I spend on food at work and am shocked!!
I think a lot of people on here meal plan for the week ahead! I do this & it really helps. I refused to buy food & drink at Uni which everyone laughed at me for, but no offence, £3.80 for a jacket potato and then £1 for a drink? Everyday? for 5 days? No I don't think so! I treated myself to a little lunchbox, tupperware & thermos for Uni and it was the best thing I did. I just bought a mini thermos for soup from Amazon; it was £10 but I know it will benefit in the long run!Now I am employed, lets get rid of this student debt!0 -
Yup Kitty, I'm planning to do this too. I stand every week night and make up a packed lunch for DS then go to work and buy mine??? Madness! (and much laziness too).0

Good luck! I always take fruit and usually soup. I work shifts so if I work a late (usually 2-10), then I will take something like a pasta bake. I make a massive pasta bake on a sunday night and it does me for the week! Now I am employed, lets get rid of this student debt!0

Afternoon all, well ended up at Costco yesterday as oh's friend was needing some stuff and he doesn't have a card, ended up getting cheese, milk, fish, crisps and i think that was all. Not bad as i normally get loads in there and spend a fortune !!.
Then i went to Asda got loads of reduced meat couldn't resist, problem now can't fit another thing in and it was looking alot emptier said to oh i am buying no more food, he said the only thing you could possibly need is a bag of tatties, i started laughing as i already have a bag. The fridge and cupboards are also full. Must start using it now.
Meals today, brekkie they all had egg rolls, lunch was soup and dinner is going to be fish, chips and mushy peas or beans. I've only had a cup of tea so far as my throat is sore and i feel fluey, it's just that time of year.
Lip_stick and quintwins hope you feel better soon, yes quintwins it's harder to get antibiotics now, i think it depends on the doctor you see.

We went organic in March and at first it was such a struggle to find food that I was spending way less than normal. Then In August I discovered that Ocado and Abel & Cole delivered to the town I live in.
I have a Delivery Savings Pass and Total Savings Pass from Ocado. Over a year, my regular Saturday slot would cost over £300  so I'm saving well over £200 because I got an offer on the Delivery Savings Pass.
The Total Savings Pass cost 8.99 for a year and saves 10% off selected brands and for me they include Evian water, Tampax, Maynards wine gums, organic veg boxes, Badoit, Duracell batteries, Daylesford jams and Twinings teas.
Abel & Cole does flat rate delivery for 99p and minimum order £10 so I can buy eggs and bits and pieces every week and they do offers.
I trawl supermarket websites for offers but there aren't many and I rarely get YS when I do visit.
I plan meals around offers when poss rather than plan meals and have to go buy things which might not be on offer.
I got loads of beauty products for Christmas which should keep me going til March. I bought anti-perspirant and soap in bulk from Shorters Club and I think I'll do that more over 2013 as long as they beat the offers I find.
But I think there's going to be only a small amount I can shave off the budget really !
Instead of actual packed lunches for OH I send him up with rolls, bread, butter, tins of organic stuff every week and he fixes it himself as there's a proper kitchen in the office. My budget is 5 meals @ £2 each so £10pw. I'll buy non-organic if it's additive free so he gets things like Sun Pat raisins from Poundland and prosciutto from Lidl too.0 -
I really want to start getting boxes from Abel & Cole but when I enquired, they were ringing me twice a day, sending letters, sending emails with no incentive... except for the incentive for me to kick them up the...!!
I think tea is going to be turkey, sausages and mash. They go together, right? I will make it work. Now I am employed, lets get rid of this student debt!0 -
Kitty_Ears I'm really surprised that you had all that as I've never been hassled by Abel & Cole at all and their customer service is excellent.
Got an email from Abel & Cole yesterday which said that their boxes are going up in price from 31st December but deleted it as I don't have their boxes.
If you go browse the organic food in supermarkets thread we're having a discussion about veg boxes on there atm.
We're still eating our way through stuff in the fridge ! Other than boiled eggs we haven't done any cooking since Christmas Eve.NSD today but Ocado delivery tomorrow as down to last litre of Moo.

I can't swallow so fluids are pretty much out right now i'm acually really thirsty, I went back to the dr's today as i woke up in tears this morning, both ears now aching then my throat started to bleed, i got an emergency appointment appointment which i always hate taking incase theres a real emergency but the dr agreed i was right to come back, she gave me penicillian surup (which is the worst thing i've ever tasted) and double strength fizzy co-codomol but none of the chemists in our town had any fizzy ones so i just got some normal and got her to order me some in, she wants me to gargle them, but i have voltrorol from yesterday to gargle anyway it seems to be helping my ears but not my throat and not for long enoughfingers crossed i feel better ina few days, i was worried by monday i'd be very dehydrated as i'm struggling to drink anything.
Kids and hubby had mc'ds again  i don't want food but i'm worried about my tummy with all those tablets so i'm trying some soup now just to line it, swallowing is so painful

Have you tried spraying your throat with ultra chlosceptic (spelling?), most chemists sell it boots even do their own version. I used to suffer badly from tonsillitis/glandular fever and it was the only thing that helped.

So sorry you are so unwell,
I too had this bug over Xmas, and it laid me very low. Please try to eat something, even drink milk or suck an ice cube. I ate nothing, took brufen like sweeties, then had a sick feeling tummy for 3 days!
And I should know better! Being a nurse!
Take care, hope all who are sick are keeping warm.
