I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

  • Freezer and fridge nearly empty here.

Just cleaned out fridge and have stuck -
    3 x sweet potatoes
    2 x onions
last of bag of frozen peppers
last of bag of quorn pieces
    3 x slighty bendy carrots
into the slow cooker with a veg stock.

not sure what it will be like but hopefully ok. MIL bought me a slow cooker recipe book so waiting till I get that till I go shopping as need ideas on recipes to help me plan what to buy.

(oh also stuck into slow cooker the blended carrots I had made for DS when weaning! hoping they will just melt in and maybe help thicken the stock)

Any ideas if this will be ok for dinner? or shoule I be considering cooking something else.

Some quorn burgers and chicken nuggets in freezer left. Loads of frozen brocolli and garlic bread. No potatoes so think next couple of nights will be a bit of a mish mash dinner.

Have a butternut squash, could I do a soup with this and some of the brocolli? Or would it be yuck?
  • Hi everyone! Just come across this thread and think I'm going to give it a go. I have a fridge/freezer in the house and a second freezer in the garage and both are filled to the brim, mostly down to the tesco price check promotion earlier on in the year ;) Anyway, with a holiday coming up in a few weeks and then christmas and a baby due beginning of March it would be nice to cut down on the shopping bill for a while. We haven't eaten out of the freezer for a while due to me having morning sickness and being very picky. But as it happens, yesterday we got pies and roast potatoes (from the tesco meal deal glitch) out of the freezer for dinner tonight and I will have a rumage and get something out for tomorrow
  • had leftover quiche from last night's dinner for lunch - there was quite alot left and I ate it all and now feel sick!

Dinner tonight (well for kids - I think I will just have something really small later on once I don't feel so full up) will be leftover roast chicken made into korma with some of my huge stock of approved foods naan breads! Haven't got any mango chutney though so kids will probs moan on about that!

I don't get paid until next Monday and have about £40 to last me until then so I will have to be VERY careful this week. That said, the cupboards are full and freezer is full, although not much meat in it.

Last night I found a sachet of Symington's table cream in the cupboard( bought goodness knows when!) so I made it up and it was really lovely!! I had half yesterday and there is half left in the fridge. Kids won't eat it though as they say it is yucky!

Had some bargains in waitrose today,

Got a salami from £6 down to 30p and 2x nimble loaves for 10p each. and Gu desserts for 99p for 2.

Moussaka for dins, totally from store cupboard and managed to do the same with the marinade for tomorrow's tandoori chicken which is currently in the fridge. Hopefully no more shopping will be needed this week! But i can't resist a bargain either....

  • Since Saturday I have eaten from the freezer, 2 X pints of skimmed milk, haddock X 2, mussels, sausage goulash X 2, mashed potato, 4 X bread roles, 2 X apricot puree. I have added four helpings of tomato soup and apricot ice cream. It doesn't seem to be emptying that quickly!

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Morning all.

Meatball pasta today and snacking rest of day - haven't been 100% of late and not eating much.
Spending very little money and freezers have gaps again - lowest in ages - probably stock up with lidl's half-price diced chicken this weekend, so the space will come in handy.

Not much luck in Sainsburys of late with silly-priced bargains - really dried up and only getting the odd thing now.

Used some fish & oven chips from the freezer last night & found a tin of mushy peas (for OH) which had been in the cupboard for a while. Tonight I will use pasta & tuna & a few other bits out of the cupboard for a bake with some frozen garlic bread.

    Lunches today

OH has ham sarnies, a pasty out the freezer, crisps etc. I've got the last of the minestrone soup, a banana and an apple.

Dinner is pea pesto with spaghetti and prawns. - only need to get some garlic and herb soft cheese, the rest is store cupboard ingredients.

Weekends are really hard for me, OH is often out so i don't like to plan dinners, incase they get wasted.
