Kirri -thanks for the advice of making a list of things in the freezers. I know I should, but I have so much in them and my hands get really cold and hurt when I'm upsidedown, head in the freezer trying to move things so I can see what's at the bottom, however, the good thing is it's mainly meat so I need the vegs to stretch it. Yes I grow my own fruit and veg but this year the amount has not been enough for what I need to do over the next couple of months
I'm pretty sure I will have to have at least 4 ops next yr and my OH is usless in the kitchen let alone looking after me when I am unable to get about so to have a stash of 'HM ready meals' is what I am about at the moment. He said he would eat in the pub and bring me back a doggy bag. He wasn't joking either.

Did brasing steak for tea last night and managed to do 3 extra meals which are now in the freezer. Tonight I think it's scotch eggs - they won't freeze - eggs go rubbery.

I've just defrosted a slab of puff pastry - just need inspiration to turn it into something.

Really easy to do the dough for the biscuits
Measure the ingredients into a mixing bowl. I use my Kenwood Chef
Turn it on and whilst it is mixing, weigh out the next batch.
Tip out the dough from the first lot onto a worksurface, cut it in half, roll it into two sausage shapes, roll baking parchment around it ready to freeze whilst the next lot is mixing - no washing up betwen batches. and repeat. I can do 8 or 9 batches in less than half an hour. Saves me hours later on.
I do a similar idea with bread dough, and dough for wraps. An amazing amount of time can be saved.

If you haven't printed the Fox's £2 coupon off a Xmas pudding, you have until the 4th November to get it.
Must be used in Sainsbury's and on half-price offer @ £2.50, so only 50p.

I totally understand where you are coming from there, Kirri. I tried going vegan last year and I must have lasted about 4 weeks. I am vegetarian anyway so thought it wouldn't be too much of a hassle but I just struggled to make it interesting. I am very envious of these people who can live quite happily with a vegan lifestyle as it fits in with all my principles but in reality I personally can't do it.
Good luck if you decide to carry on but don't beat yourself up too much if you find you can't.

Ah interesting, agree with all that! You did well to last 4 weeks! I'd like to do the month for the experience and to find new alternatives food wise but in reality I don't think I will and it's not for me long term, not at the moment anyway. I didn't realise how much I'd hate it which is weird as I eat a lot of vegan meals anyway and going veggie years ago felt natural.

I've also spent more today than I would have, as I can't face another scratch made meal tonight so ended up buying some vegan fishless fingers (which I do like) but it's never on offer like Quorn is and I can't get them in the supermarket so ended up paying over the odds in H&Barrett - still getting over the shock, they have the same soya ice cream I buy in a supermarket for over £1 more!

All I've eaten so far today is 2 bits of toast with horrible vegan marge (I do like this in cakes though) and marmite followed by vegan choc cake. Did stock up on more fruit and some extra veg as I doubt there is much on the allotment after the frosts. I've used zilch out the cupboards/freezer though.

Ms NR - totally right, food is to be enjoyed :)

Lynsey, I've learnt a new word in trouting!
You spent your voucher just in time, just saw they have now gone...

Zafiro - your freezer must be huge to fit that in! I had a poor year growing too, though this is the first week I've supplemented my veg from a shop.
  • In tescos the Cadbury Halloween cinder toffee cakes have been reduced to 50p, some packs have a peelable 50p moc on them = free cake.
  • Oooo biscuitmad might have to look into that!! ;)

Kirri- agree with others dont push too hard on vegan diet- I have a couple of friends who have done it, personally I dont think I could , seems very restrictive, tho understand why people do it...

Lynsey- another couponing success by the looks of it? havent bothered so much of late as trying to use up what we have rather than add to it (and dont much like special k stuff always tastes like rabbit food to me!)

Quite pleased today as have managed to create quite a lot just from what we had in the house!
2 batches of cookie dough (have left this in freezer assume will be ok for a few days?...)
Casserole (should feed us today and tomorrow and at least one days work back into freezer!)
Vegetable and tomato soup - 3 portions
2 birthday cakes for my friends party this weekend
    Sandwiches for lunch.

Popped to tesco and out of "treat" money bought 6 mini rose wines (under £1 each but shame I missed the ogio deal tho dont really like red or white would have gone to help xmas!) and 2 packs of maltesers (BOGOF so £1.04 each) . Also got loads of tinned value veg to keep us going if its cold/miserable/cant be bothered to cook!
Nearing the limit of challenge money so might get some frozen stuff in next week with the double up clubcard vouchers and then will have to yellow-sticker hunt for the next 6 weeks! .. ;)

    Hope everyone is well.
I managed to find somewhere to get the sk nut clusters but finding it difficult to get the blueberry moments (only have strawberry) and cracker crisps :(. Are the cracker crisp with the crackers or crisps :o.
Went shopping today and spent under £30. Used vouchers and got items that were half price. Got box of surprise chocs from aldi for christmas and also a black forest stollen for christmas which looks yummy.
Looking for bargains anywhere i can :hello:
  • Managed to use one of the many tins of tomatoes out of the cupboard and half a bag of fresh peas out of the fridge for dinner. Made a really nice pasta sauce. NSD for me today, still on crutches and have a MRI scan tomorrow afternoon on my knee. Not looking forward to it as I'm a bit claustrophobic. Never mind, going to make some Christmas cards tonight to take my mind off it, I hope I don't have to spend very much on parking tomorrow- proper bugbear of mine that.
Hi, my name's Katy and I'm a (former) spendaholic!

Deleted_User - the last few months have been great for couponing, hope it lasts for a while longer. Lots of freebies, though I'm also not keen on the Special K cereals, but great to donate. Hubby will eventually try the honey clusters. I think the Special K crisps and Moments are OK, though the Moments are very sweet.

I haven't donated this week to a foodbank, but will do 2 in November as well as family and friend donations.

Didn't have the sausages and mash, but must tomorrow. We've just snacked since breakfast and ate mostly bad things!!

TheLincsEffect - hope the scan goes well, they can be claustrophobic though.

smegcat - I found the Special K crisps with the crisps in Sainsbury's. Morries had a promotion stand, butmaybe with the crisps also.

Kirri - I think the Comet gift-cards can still be used for a while, but we'll need a kettle soon as we go through loads!!
Maybe a cheap freezer there if and when they clear stuff, though hope they survive if only for the employees. Not a great time to lose your job.

Popping to Sainsbury's soon to get a few Fox's Xmas puddings. I managed to get 6 coupons, so I'll get 6 whilst they'll only cost 50p and donate some of them also. Fingers crossed for cheap veg, especially potatoes.
