I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

Last night I had chicken curry and rice using half a jar of balti sauce which had been sitting in the freezer for about a year!! Had a banana smoothie for breakfast made with half a pint of milk which runs out of date today and a lonely brown banana that I would normally have binned, mixed in some cinnamon with it and it was lovely
Lunch is some curry leftovers and for dinner tonight iv taken a chicken leg out of the freezer, not sure what I'm going to put with it yet though.

taken a joint of pork out of the freezer so having that for tea, with veg from the garden (if it stops raining long enough for me to go and dig!) and hm yorkshire puddings. The left over pork will make sandwich fillings for the rest of the week. I have the breadmaker on so i won't need to venture into the shops tomorrow for bread.mortgage £800 overpayment 2022. £600/£2400 2023 🙂 savings £1853/£1800 😊0

Still doing well. Not spent anything else other than in my signature since starting on the 23rd August.
Will need some milk at some point but still have loads of food left! :j

I find I'm doing quite good these past few days. I live in a shared house and cook by myself. I'm working evenings at the minute and trying to cut back on my food intake.
A packet of sausages (half price butchers choice ones) have last me 2 meals so far and still have 3 left, which I will have tomorrow.
A few weeks back I bought 2 chickens and large pack of mince for £10 and cut up the chicken into portions, 4 breasts, 4 wings and 4 legs and thighs! I was quite pleased with myself, never done that to a raw chicken before! I still have the legs and thighs left, I'm going to marinade them at some point.
Today's dinner - Spag bol using some of that mince, chopped tomatoes and the veg in my fridge.
I still don't eat all the fruit in the bowl though. Need to work on that!
Moving in less than a week so need to use up most of freezer stuff ideally.0 -
Tonight my sister and friend are coming for tea so we are having a bit of a mix up use up tea. Kids are having leftover roast chicken with frozen roasties, cabbage, carrots and yorkshire pudding and my sister, friend and I are having a big cottage pie which I made and froze a while ago, with cabbage and carrots. I don't have enough leftover chicken to do a roast for everyone and I am determined to get down on freezer stocks before I do an online meat shop early next week.Jane

No Spend Day yesterday, but mainly by fluke as I had to wait for someone to call.
Took some Covent Garden soup (Thai chicken) out of freezer for hubby, omelete and salad for myself.
Off to IKEA for breakfast and shopping at the Metro Centre.
Got loads of coupons for mostly non-food/grocery items and will be using quite a few today - most stuff works out free or pence at most (thanks to Coupon thread).

I'd like to join this challenge for a bit if that's okay and combine it with the grocery challenge that I've been doing for the last couple of months. I seem to have very well stocked cupboards and my freezer is full (only a tiny one though) so should really only need to buy fridge things and maybe some meat when i see it on offer as haven't hardly any in. I did a small shop this morning and got milk, washing powder and flour so I hope not to shop this week except for fresh fruit.
I have a big veggie chilli cooking in the SC to freeze in portions for next week and have made a couple of batches of gnocchi which are open freezing atm. This used up a couple of the MANY tins of red kidney beans I seem to have accumulated and some veggies at the bottom of my fridge-smells yummy. The gnocchi will save me time when I want a quick meal and we love gnocchi but can't buy from anywhere readymade as it needs to be gluten free.
Will be picking up our bread order from the chemist tomorrow - not sure how to fit it in the freezer:o.
Tonight we're having spaghetti pomodoro, using up some of our pasta stash, with copious sprinklings of parmesan and side salad to use up a lettuce and cucumber from the fridge.Grocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)
Grocery challenge November : £291.65/300.00 NSD 10
Grocery challenge December : £0/240.00 NSD0 -
chicken kebabs tonight and garlic bread, and sausage for the kids, all from the freezer. Had crackers instead of bread for lunch, as we seem to have LOADS of them!!! (not quite sure why we have so many!)
On the plus side, we are a week into september and I have only spent £20.81!!!!mortgage £800 overpayment 2022. £600/£2400 2023 🙂 savings £1853/£1800 😊0 -
Medsdemon - just noticed your winnings in your signature - how do you do it? Do you enter loads of competitions or are you just really lucky!!
Am using the last of my Aldi pork chops for tea tonight with oven chips and peppers and onions and mushrooms (cooked together in a bit of balsamic). Just made the custard cookies off the grocery challenge recipe thread and they are lovely!! (not that I need the calories mind...). Meat stocks are now fairly low in the freezer but I reckon I can make meals up to next weekend (18th September) but I will need to get milk and some baking ingredients before then, along with some veg. My friend has been getting me wonderful farm veg and eggs much cheaper and nicer than the supermarket over the last couple of weeks, but she is away on holiday at the moment, so I may take a drive out on Friday and see what's on offer.Jane

Plan for today was to finish off the sausages with a tin of beans and some toast for breakfast/lunch - but my last few slices of bread were mouldy
So had a jacket potato with it instead.
I still have spag bol in the fridge from yesterday, which is will what I'll have tomorrw (well today, seeing as its gone 3am!)0
