  • Afternoon all! :)

Becky - welcome to the challenge, I find it does keep the mind focused on finding things to eat rather than automatically going out for more!

Lynsey - have enjoyed reading about your challenge this year you have done so well! Can only imagine the effort it takes though and sounds a good idea to relax the reins a bit so to speak!

Soworried looks like you are doing fab on the YS shopping!!

Well done emmajane and ammonite too! :)

Have been doing well on the challenge lately:
    Have managed to use up:
    rest of pack of cereal
    6 eggs
    pack of flour
    3 very sorry looking bananas
    (made cakes!)
pack of spinach out of freezer
pack of crumpets out of freezer
    half a loaf of bread
    cheese

Have also taken out chilli for tonights dinner

Can see the back of my freezer too! :rotfl:
    In there now are:
    1 fish pie
    6 veggie sausages
    2 pizzas
    2 fishcakes
    4 portions of chilli
    2 and a half cakes!
    half a pack of vegetables

grocery delivery next week so that will throw all that out of the water!

Have also been putting some tins and packets into a cupboard that I will take to a foodbank at some point I heard a news item the other day about the amount of families/people needing emergency food as a result of the economic situation and figured I am lucky enough to have an excess of food (see more at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-19172293)
  • I'm feeling quite proud of myself, didn't buy any of the ys bargains in Sainsbugs this morning when doing shopping for school, I'll start going at final reduction time next week when I'm back into the swing of work and have others to share my bargains.
I did manage to get four petrol vouchers from the staff lunches so used one to fill up and OH has had one too. I'll keep the others for next weekend:D
Lyndsey I really envy you being able to manage on £25 a week, there's only two of us but our fruit and veg bill alone was £16 yesterday and that's on the market and its really cheap compared to paying full price in the supermarket - we just seem to eat so much of it!
We had friends around for a bbq last night so two rib of veal, large piece of rump steak and some sausages out and nothing in.:D
    Hi Becky:wave:welcome
I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly :D

First food shop of the month done yesterday!

Spent in the region of £20 on staples to keep me going through September. It's going to be a rediculously tight month for me, so will try to avoid spending anymore money unless I HAVE to! Pasta and sauce and jacket potatoes will be keeping me going this month!

It is sooo hot today here. I have had to come inside for a minute to get a cool drink.

Gardens are sorted, going to sit and have a nice squash in it before going for milk. :)

It is scary that normal families are running out of food. Do you think they would take the lemon pie fillings? I have around 60.:o

There is nothing wrong with that. :) Well done for tightening your belt when you need to. :T

To be fair, it's not going to be a bad thing - no snacking foods so hopefully my weightloss will get kick started again!

I made a huge pot of veggie soup for lunch and froze that into portions, going to make some more of that and I reckon i'll just need to buy bread flour and soya milk and I might be able to survive!

Lunch was Higgidy Homity pies from freezer with tinned spaghetti and tonight is organic diced beef from the freezer for either curry or spagless bog.

I got dragged to Next by OH to get three tub chairs and catalogue then into Wilkinson where we picked up a Morocco table lamp (hate the shade need to find another one) £17 and some YS milk.

    Food shopping 1.36
Non food shopping - don't even want to think about it :rotfl:

Oscar Pistorius :T:T:T for breaking T44 world record in his heat, I think the final is tonight 21:15 Ch 4 :j

It's getting a tad nippier, I had to wear a linen shirt over my tshirt today. :( Hope it's sunny for you xxx

    I've been Money Tipped!
Afternoon and it is a lovely day ............ at last.

re annual budget, the problem being that "annual" is for 12 months!!!!
I would recommend doing a similar challenge, even if only for 1 month. 3 months would be a good target, 12 months is far too long.
Lots of pennies can be saved (or spent on other things), but you do have to plan on what you can get to best value within a price range.

Deleted_User - it does take a bit of effort and planning, within a small budget anyway.

bramble1 - you are doing really well and not much spent - well done.

blackandwhitebunny - £16 on fruit and veg in a single day - that is scary. lol
When we used to visit my Son when he lived near Brixton, we used to take him to a Farmers Market and he spent £25+ and only got about 2 carrier bags full of stuff!!!

Done a bit of shopping today and some decent reductions and spent little by using coupons to my advantage.

    Tesco:
    2 x L'Oreal "age perfect" wipes @ 2.99 each = £5.98
    3 x sausage and mash meals (reduced from £2.20 to 55p each) = £1.65
    2 x large wood-fired veg pizzas (reduced from £4.50 to £1.13) = £2.26
Pack of pears (reduced from £1 to 35p) = 35p
    Mushrooms 700g pack (reduced from £2 to 60p) = 60p
    2 tins of tomatoes @ 25p = 50p
    4 x Heinz 5 beans @ 85p = £3.40
    Sub total = £14.74
    L'Oreal BOGOF - minus £2.99
    2 x £2.50 L'Oreal skincare coupons - minus £5
    4 x 85p Heinz coupons - minus £3.40
    Total = £3.35 :money: :j

    Sainsbury's:
    2 x Heinz 5 beans @ 84p = £1.68
Sweet potatoes (reduced from £1.85 to 39p)
    Sub total = £2.07
    2 x 85p Heinz coupons - minus £1.70
    Total = 37p

    Days total = £3.72

Hubby had one pizza and said it was nice and other pizza and ready meals in freezer (with help of shoe-horn).
Had to take some bread out and put in large ice-box in fridge.
Freezers crammed again and nothing at all needed to freeze this week.

I'm not hungry as been out with friend and snacked.
keeping steak casserole for tomorrow and might make some mushroom soup - too many mushrooms. Probably a stir fry on Tuesday and wanting to use a Groupon this week.
This really should be a very cheap week, just some veg needed mid-week and Morries have some 50p offers on.

MIL has informed us that she doesn't want beans for Harvest Festival. lol

Been reading with interest some of the posts in this thread.

I am a bit of a food hoarder. I get it from my mum (she has a huge upright freezer and a chest freezer and loads of cupboard space). I have a 50/50 fridge freezer (bought with my inherited shopping habits in mind) and a much smaller kitchen. Mum keeps saying I should get a freezer and put it out in the shed.

Anyway, i moved into my own home with my partner in march 2011. I'm quite savvy and travel to different shops to get my bits and bobs, home and bargain, Aldi, lidl, b&m, tesco, Morries etc, but I do hoard. Mostly frozen things and long life jars and tins. I HATE waste too.

Not sure if I can fully commit to this. OH Is a Heinz beans only, HP sauce only kind of guy, with no movement on that despite my efforts over the last 18 months,

Will continue reading through this thread though for inspiration.
