I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

The scones turned out pretty well, just could have done with a stronger cheese. I will definitely make them again.
BTW, the cooking bacon from Sainsbury's was fab. It contained 2 large thick bacon chops (a bit like sirloin steaks) and a smaller chop which I used for the scones - great bargain @ 99p.
blackandwhitebunny - gammon will probably be the choice for 2nd meat, if I use the lamb.
That's not until 16 weeks time though, well 16 weeks from next Tuesday.
I've been out shopping today as we need paste for the Decorator on Saturday. I did a few cheap shops and bought mainly snacks:
B&M:
6 packets of Walkers crisps @ 10p = 60p
2 packets of Hula Hoops @ 10p = 20p
Big D dry roasted peanuts (275g) = 99p
Packet of crackers = 29p
Total = £2.08
Home Bargains:
4 tins of Sardinellas (29p or 4 for £1) = £1
Total = £1
Asda: (got my bread, but not "whoopsied")
2 x small bloomers (70p each or 2 for £1) = £1
Bag of peas in pods reduced from £1 = 19p
Totaal = £1.19
Sainsbury's:
2 x Heinz 5 beans & 84p = £1.68
1 packet of McDougals pancake mix (reduced to 54p) = 54p
Used 2 x 85p beans coupons (minus £1.70)
Total = 52p
Days total = £4.79 .................. and that's it for today.
We gave away 8 tins of the free Heinz beans today to someone on benefits - save them a few pence and handy for a snack etc.
That's 10 tins given away this week and stocks going down ........... still plenty of coupons though with big dates!!!!
I used the McDougals mix for the batter for the toad-in-the-hole (in oven now) and we're having with baby baked potatoes and onion gravy.
BTW, the weather is actually nice here now and the blue sky is visible ........... for a change.
ms_night_ryder - can we be invited round to your Xmas dinner??

JJ posted a lovely recipe for the 5 beans on the September grocery challenge thread.
No shopping here today. I really need to make some space.
Lynsey, I hope you don't need to go out tonight. I just got stuck terribly on the A69 at Hexham. :eek:£36/£240

For those not knowing what to do with the five beanz, how about a sausage n bean casserole? Bean chilli?
I made this today which was extremely simple and adaptable:
Just tried out a can or 2 of Heinz five beans in an experimental recipe.
Also added 'the secret ingredient';)
First, I fried up some cheap veggies with herbs of choice. I added a couple of tins of 5B and a glug of the secret ingredient.....
I popped it in a large ovenproof dish.....
Top with anything you prefer: cheesy bread crumbs, pastry, potato slices, etc.
I opted for potato slices as I had some frozen ready to use up....
Not sure what it tastes like yet but the filling was nice on its own
Seems pretty adaptable. :money::A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Looks good jumble, i now have 12 cans, lol half going to redcross in their christmas box, which so far only has that and a batchelors pasta, need more freebies to make it good.
I have been busy today, no time to go argos, got my nails done, before that i went to boots, used the nair and washlets, as they are a £1, but the assistant was really stroppy and made me repeat that i had coupons, she put one through and said the nair didnt work and i had the wrong product, at the time i was on the phone, so i said to her, it says any product, she looked at me and said it needs to be from the spa range, so i said no it doesnt, i didnt like the way she was speaking to me, so i said why are you speaking to me like that? so she started raising her voice lol, this was when she said how am i talking to you, so i said your raising your voice and giving me an attitude for now reason, so took my vouchers and left after saying, you only work in boots darling, your not that important (i regret saying that badly, i never judge anybody on where they work, i will speak to anyone) at this point i was still on the phone to my aunty, so my aunty said go back and complain, so i went back and the manager happened to be standing next to the mos, so i said to her i want to complain about your colleague, so i explained, she took me to a till and guess what? the nair coupon worked *rlls eyes*, so i said to her, i want to put in a formal complaint, she said the manager was away until monday, she wrote my name and number on a back of a receipt, i suspect they were mates, as the mos was at a different till serving me, not near where i found them, so i doubt she will pass anything on, im calling customer care tomorrow.
Lol, if you don't follow what i have written, sorry, but ranty, even though i'm in a good mood, that irks me, saying it again, went to zumba, which i loved! also got 2 washlets, 4 nair sachets,1 nair in box, 2 packs of always and a can of beans for £1.03 in tescos and boots, went to sainsburys for the nair and as i was putting it through mos had to help, she looked at the voucher while putting it through and said where did you get it from? so i said the internet, she said this is really good, print more! lol so i said i can't its 1 per person, she said oh o.k because you can get more and could get one every week! lol guess who will be helping me with coupons in future?
Made a Mackrel pate today, using soft cream cheese, finely chopped onions and peppered mackrel fillet, from freezer, had that on some crackers, my grandma makes it for us, so i thought i would do it, obvs its not the same as hers, also have just eaten the pasta from freezer, unsure of what i'm eating tomorrow, need to go to argos though.
Lynsey you can come on boxing day? thats when the rest of family come down, about 12-15 and we have the leftovers, christmas day is around the table and a tight squeeze as it is, 7 around a 6 seater table, piled high with food, lol.
P.s I have my heating on, it's cold! the nail lady said to me very casually, it's winter now! lol all i could do was laugh and agree.Lose 28lb 3/28lb

jumblejack - How did it taste, it looks very nice! I have not tried the beans yet so might give this a go
ms_night_ryder - I can understand why you would regret that comment but I would have been just as frustrated with her attitude as you, I hate rude retail staff! I used to work in retail whilst at uni and it can be mind numbing but I was always pleasant to customers (and some of ours used the changing rooms as a toilet!) Hope customer care are helpful tomorrow
Today has been OK but getting a bit down about the lack of fresh fruit & veg. Finding I am snacking on junky/processed foods as there isn't much fresh stuff to choose from. My placement petrol expenses should come in tomorrow alongside OH's wages so going to do a fruit & veg shop at ALDI - get some nice fresh bits to pick at like sugarsnap peas, and mango.
I used up the last packet savoury rice and really want to start making my own with the boil in the bag rice, and spices - hoping I can do a good of a job! Finished the last of two boxes of cereal bars (we both have different types) and some freezer bits for tea. Going to sit down tomorrow and write a meal plan for next week so I make good use of what we have in.0 -
Morning,
It will be a nsd here today. I am determined to get under a £250 spend this month.
Breakfast is cereal, lunch will be ham hock and pea soup. It is in the slow cooker now.I am going to serve it with buttered toast.
Dinner will be something with mince but I haven't decided what yet.
It looks a lovely day here, I might get my husband to cut the grass.:D£36/£240

Morning all.It looks a lovely day here, I might get my husband to cut the grass.:D
At least sharpen the shears for him. :rotfl:
It is a nice morning, clear skies, but still a little cold early on.
I still fancy an "Indian Summer", I may not get what I fancy, but that's what I fancy.
Soworried - does your budget cover everything??
My budget is ONLY for the food stuff and non-alcoholic drinks, so it will always appear low.
I do try hard though and aim to get at least double the amount for my money - which is very easily achieved by buying stuff at 70%+ off.
ms_night_ryder - you do get the odd awkward till op, but generally all goes fine. Hope you get a voucher for your inconvenience.
I still prefer the s/scan till though and Sainsbury's are the best.
jumblejack - that looks very nice and the pictures are so vibrant.
I don't eat bean casseroles, but my Son does and he'll be getting quite a few tins of those beans.
Breakfast will simply be toast and no meal plans as yet.
Thinking of stir fried rice using up some of the cooking bacon.
I'm going to cook all the bacon today and freeze it (diced up). Ready for soups, pasta meals and scones etc.
I'm probably going shopping later, but could easily wait until tomorrow. I'm giving Lidl a miss this week.

I'm still in bed with a cuppa the laptop and three cats. I think the latter is a clear indication that its cold
I also think they know that its the last official day of my school hols so our last lie in.
I've got to get up soon and go buy ingredients etc for food for 65 hungry teachers and support staff. Several years ago I got so fed up with the quality of what caterers gave us on staff training days that I volunteered to take over so now have to sort food for Mon and Tues. I'm going to make Pasta bakes for Tues and freeze and then Monday will be cold stuff that I'll buy on Sunday. I reckon it'll be about £240 in all so four 10p off a litre petrol vouchers then :rotfl:I know some schools don't allow their staff to claim any rewards - not even points but I think our finance guy knows what my response to that would be :rotfl:
Breakfast has been the usual cereal - lunch will be samples while cooking and no idea about dinner.I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly

Bit gutted this morning, nice day here but when I looked in my online banking my placement travel expenses are still not in. Rang up to see I missed the deadline by a few days (back in July) so they haven't been sent off yet - will be sent off today, so payment in around four weeks ...
Luckily OH is paid today but we're working on paying off our £1000 CC debt so I really hate to use his money for our shopping because I have messed up my budget (which I have, I was so good last month, this month has been a complete fail). Will get a few bits from ALDI, about £5 for fruit & veggies and the rest will have to be what we have in, and possibly meals at both of our parents house (which is nice as well as helpful).
SHouldn't complain as I know there are many worse off and this is my second degree, so I have chosen to have a tiny bursary but £300 a month, using £40 a week petrol & £20 a month parking with whatever else left to live on isn't great - plus I have a repayment plan for my old overdraft taking another £100. The maths doesn't add up very well when I am on placement, but thankfully I am in uni after the next two weeks which is a short walk = freeOnwards & upwards - will start making my menu plan now so I have meals set for the week
