I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

I too was awoken by the hurricane lashing at my windows! All calm here now and looks like it could be an OK day if not a little windy!
I am super excited for Christmas, even more so knowing I am fully off cooking duty this year :j unless baby fossil decides to be really late and then I'm sure I'll spend December baking and crafting to while away the hours (which sounds rather fab actually!).
Lynsey - :rotfl: at your husband eating for two!! We always have turkey and ham, I couldn't imagine eating anything else at Christmas but lamb does sound like a lovely alternative.
Back to work today, just general lunch items out and I'll probably get sausage rolls out for OH's lunch.
Have a good day y'all!0 -
Morning all. I was woken by the sound of bin men collecting recycling at 0705 this morning.
Sunny here
Lynsey - about the only thing we haven't had for Christmas lunch is turkeyWe just don't like it as a roast. For late night Christmas supper we cram as much cold sliced meat as we can get on the plate but for lunch no-one in my family does a second meat on the plate. Only meats I can think of that might be suitable would be beef or pork.
I'm not telling OH you have two or he may say he's deprived
I've got the delights of Christmas present buying to comeMy mother does lots of hers in the summer sales.

You've got to out-do us with your hurricane.
Edwardia, we always have 2 meats, but hoping to avoid turkey this year.
I need to see if Son is coming home first and bringing his Girlfriend.
2nd meat may well be decided on by what we pick up cheaply in coming weeks. lol
I have a few beef joints (small) and at least one pork joint in the freezer.
I'm so organised, I could have Xmas dinner tomorrow. :rotfl:
Soworried - we won't scrimp at Xmas, but we don't do it as big anymore. Still get the luxuries, just to a lesser degree.
Xmas was on my mind when deciding my budget this year, I was terrified that the budget wouldn't stretch to Xmas. I worked my budget at £100 per month and £300 extra to allow for Xmas etc.
As I'm well in control, I fear not now ........................ but I did fear once!!!
I'm also keeping our Nectar points for Xmas - £30 so far for "goodies".
Xmas spends for pressies has long been sorted, we save over the year and we are actually starting to save for next Xmas funds now.
All the money from Topcashback goes into the Xmas "pot", as well as our tin we save £2 coins, as well as 20p and 50p coins.
16 weeks come next Tuesday - loads of time.

Lyndsey - what about pork or Gammon with lamb, I wouldn't do beef as very similar, or have you tried goose? Lidl does them nearer christmas for about 20 quid. We're also non turkey at christmas people, normally have bbq'd t-bone steaks, its the SA bit of me coming out.
Having said that I still have two turkeys in the freezer from out annual boxing day bargain hunt. We bought ten last year 3 for us and the rest for various neighbours.:D didn't pay more than £6.50 for any of them. We were planning to bbq them (yes really - its the best way to cook them) but the weather's been rotten.
I make scones by using a quarter fat to sr flour and then enough liquid (milk, milk and egg, buttermilk) to bind and add whatever I fancy. I like bacon and cheese but have done chorizo and cheese (fry it first), salami and olive, cheeese and herb and loads of different sweet ones. American recipes often include lemon ones with lemon rind and using lemonade for the liquid, I've never tried though.
I've picked up a sainsbugs recipe for ham and cheese muffins which I want to try - I thought the pupils might like to make them if the recipe works well, although they are very suspicious of savoury versions of things they think should be sweet.
I've printed off a load of vouchers so am off on a bargain hunt a little later. has anyone else noticed that the special offers on laundry type things are getting fewer?
No idea what's for dinner tonight, I'm off to do a freezer dive in a minute.I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly

We always have two meats as well. Normally Turkey or Goose with a large gammon.
You do great on your budget Lynsey. I 'm pleased that I have managed to keep this month under £300 for the first time in my life I think.I should be able to get it down even more in September. I am hoping to just buy needs and whoopsies. No more buying wants.:D

My mostly vegetarian mother is coming over for Christmas lunch this year. Lunch will be fine if we do salmon. I can buy organic French biscuits from French Click and Respect organic carrot cake from Sainsbury's for the afternoon. But supper will be a problem. We'll be tucking into cold roasted organic meats and she'll have to make do with vegetarian sausage rolls
The offer that got away.. found the chairs yesterday same leather as our loveseats and only 189.50 each (50% off). Found the credit card, measured they would fit.. all ready to order three and OH says we'll go look in store tomorrow. The offer has gone, they are back to £379 each.
Should I still be talking to OH ?
Ocado order today and if it stops raining going to Sainsbos. Cloud Nine organic meatballs from freezer (2.49 Sainsbos) for lunch
Ocado shop £54.63 saved 5.54 on offers including eggs, chicken, Higgidy pies, creme fraiche, sour cream and pork chops and 1.99 on delivery.0 -
Lynsey - It was DEFINITELY a hurricane :P
OK guys, I've had the moment we all dread....looking in the freezer, (smugly) thinking you have enough food until the end of October and finding actually the only food that is in there is garlic bread, donuts and soup :eek::eek:
The plastic containers I thought were meals are actually full of soup. Why did I make so much? I can only eat it about once per week so it'll be Christmas before it is gone! OH won't eat soup! I'll have to try and convince him it'll make a nice autumn lunch
I also have some mushroom risotto which OH won't eat and a few bits of meat which can make a few curries/cottage pies for him. Can possibly make it until mid-September but that is it.
I was actually in a state of wide-eyed panic. I think we can safely say I've done what the challenge states and eaten out of my freezer. Not bad going since I've barely bought any meat since April I suppose! :T Well done me but  I'm now terrified that we may starve as I don't have enough food if a nuclear winter occurred for example! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Your rain arrived here and that was a tad torrential. Sun back out tho
It's official, Ocado doesn't sell brush cleaner so now we have to go to Homebase as well as Sainsbury's now
More Black pudding arriving tomorrow
ammonite - I bet that was a shock  My OH lurves home-made soup. I may look at this tho cos with organic veg it might be cheaper to buy YS fresh organic soup and freeze it !
xx hope it's stopped raining where y'all are0
