Dry as a bone here, I live in driest part of the country with UK's only official desert between me and my mum :D. 32C here 35C in her back garden. I got the big Honeywell fan in bedroom doing overtime so it feels frrrosstie.. I miss air con ! I swear sometimes it's hotter in Sainsbos than it is outside and eww to the fridge section feeling warm. :(

    miss_emmajane you be devious ;)

soworried I hope you have a SUV. Used to lurve charging through water in my Landy but it only did 4 miles to the gallon in 4 wheel drive :( OH made me sell it after he'd knackered reverse gear :(

    ms_night_ryder that's seriously clever !
  • i had a bit of a disaster tonight! I decided to cook the steak, but I found a tub of cheese sauce that I had made the other day so I thought I would make a cheesy potato bake to go with it. I made the bake and decided to top it with some frozen hm breadcrumbs and a bit of parmesan and a few knobs of butter. It looked delicious coming out of the oven but when we ate it I realised that I had got cake crumbs out of the freezer and worse than that it was a chocolate chip cake (I had thought it was granary crumbs) - it tasted totally weird!! I seriously need to get new contacts!

thanks for the link Lynsey - i will definitely get some.

ms_night_ryder - where is the weekly spend thread? Think that may help me! I know what you mean about losing £20 on nothingness in the supermarket, I've been much better the last couple of weeks since I've been digging around and meal planning.

Yesterday I went to the co-op instead of Mr S's because I only needed fruit for the week. Spend £2ish - if I'd have gone to Mr S's I know I would have spent £15+. Obviously the fruit wasn't as cheap as big supermarket but helped me stay in budget.

Sequeena - Sorry to hear about your cat, it is miserable when they are poorly and you can't do much to help :( Also extremely sorry for your other sad news :( Hope you are doing as well as you can be x

miss_emmajane - my hubby doesn't know the motive behind me making him lots of pasta salads for his lunches- I'm eager to clear the vast reserves of pasta that we have!

Nothing out of the freezer for me, went to parents for dinner last night and came home with the leftovers which are always very welcome. One packet of savoury rice out of the cupboard for OH's lunch (he's on pasta salad tomorrow to clear some of the fridge items).

Today I'll be par-boiling carrots and freezing them and making some carrot & cheddar soup - thanks to whoever posted the idea in the first place :D

I tidied out the cupboards yesterday to find we really are overstocked on pasta - penne, macaroni and spaghetti so between pasta salads and lots of bolognaise eating, that should go down. Also got a couple of sauce jars which are about to go out of date...I found a stray packet of chicken in the freezer which I didn't know I had so may make at least some of it up into a curry with the sauce.

Also seriously overstocked on tinned tomatoes and kidney beans. They are all in date for a good while so will house them until my big September/October cooking/freezing event and make chillis and bolognaise for the freezer.

    Have a good day everyone.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Morning all, hope all are well.

Sequeena - hope your cat gets well quickly, good that you have insurance in place.

Soworried - there's a Groupon deal near you today, have you heard of or been to Potenza's??
Thinking of taking this offer and having a day out and have a look in Barry's.

Got to take my Brother shopping today and he wants to go to Argos and places!!
I might pop into B&M's to see if any good crisp offers are on and check out the M&S Outlet at Byker.

I need milk this week and Cravendale 50p coupons end soon - I'll need to stock up.
Bacon is needed, so might get some from Lidl when I pick up some Mackies (I will call it Mackay's) ice cream and possibly the sweetcorn. I also need some fruit and veg, but hoping to pick some up reduced in the next few days.

    Toasted tea-cakes soon.

We're having veggie mince lasagne tonight :)

[edit] I had the 'What are you having for tea tonight?' tread open and wrote this here by accident. Oops! We're having veggie lasagne to use up one of the three packs of lasagne sheets we have and a pack of veggie mince from the freezer. I did pop into Tesco for a packet of cheese sauce but made sure it was only that I was buying and got nothing else so quite proud of myself (I usually end up with stuff I don't need!)

Had a choc philly pot melted on toast with sliced banana for breakfast, and for lunch I think I am going to try and use up some items from the fridge.

Already made my OH's packed lunch for tomorrow too (love days off from my uni placement for how organised I can get!) which used another pitta, last of the turkey and some fridge items. It is working really well making his meals as without his knowledge all of the items he wouldn't choose for himself are being used up so he can't complain about what is left over for the rest of the month.

Have an urge to go and buy more food items today, I think it is my inner-hoarder as I saw them talking about bankers warning for worse economic times on The Wright Stuff and it sets me off with a stock cupboard mentality .... thing is I can't afford that hence the eating what we have in! So I have been to buy cheese sauce, gone to see my parents and now I am back in to do uni work/house work & relax .... not going to shop!!!

Sequeena you are in the wars ((((((Sequeena)))))) xxx Hope your life gets better real soon.

Jane - sorry, I did giggle at your crumb incident :D

Fortnum and Mason sent me an email offer yesterday offering 15% off selected wines if I bought a case.. NO chance of that happening :rotfl: but I had a look at the website and found a bottle of organic red wine from The Prince of Wales' estate, Highgrove, for 12.95. Might divert OH down to Piccadilly one night on way home from work, to pick one up for Christmas Day as we've got my mother coming. She's enjoy that.
It's way more than I would pay for a bottle of wine normally but we don't drink it now.

Good morning all (it's still morning, just!)

We've not been all that well in my house the last week, DD2 has had ear infection and is teething, so not sleeping all that much, I've had a throat infection which isn't going, and seems to be affecting my chest a bit, if it's no better tomorrow then I'll be going back to Dr's.

Sequeena - really sorry to hear about your loss.

Lynsey - I think I may have given in to the chocolate before you, so you win! We've got through 3 bars of the 13 that I bought, still, could be worse, they could all be gone!

I've been slowing using up bits out of the freezer, it's been really handy having an inventory on the computer, I can just update daily what I take out or put in, so I won't need to do a big check again for a few months.

Went to T Express the other day and must have just got there at the right time, got nearly £40 of shopping for £5.04 - which was including £1.74 on milk! I got some packs of 2 chicken breasts, stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon, for 39p a pack, bean sprouts for 6p, mini sweetcorn for 15p, everything had 90% off! Put a few bits in the freezer, and have been using up the bits that are in the fridge.

I got 4 of the pork loin joints from Lidl at the weekend, they look lovely, can't wait to have one for a Sunday lunch soon.

Going to look up some soup recipes, I have some lovely ys Tesco Finest carrots to use up, the cheddar and carrot soup sounds delicious :)

Where has the day gone? I can't believe it is afternoon already.

I have bought things from their bakery Lyndsey, lovely and very good quality but I have not eaten in the restaurant.

Today I have pulled out some ham and pea soup for lunch, I have taken out some multi grain rolls to go with it as well.
A peppered pork loin joint has come out for tea. I will make carbonnara with some of it. I should have enough left for sandwiches for lunch tomorrow.
No shopping should be done today except what I have spent on clothes this morning but that is a seperate budget and the kids needed the few bits I did buy.
I hope everyone has a low or no spend day.

Evening all.. hope everyone feeling better, not too hot/cold/wet and rugrats behaving..

My mother came up,traffic was heavy so she was 1.5 hrs late. Just got shopping squared away and OH will be home in 10 mins.

Found organic Fair Trade bananas £1 for 4 in Lidl which is cheaper than Waitrose (1.55 for 5) and possibly cheaper than Sainsbury's (1.50 for 6)). Organic carrots are up in price at Lidl they were 94p now £1. Heinz organic biscotti are 87p in Lidl, around 1.09 Tesco/Sainsbury's.

After Lidl, Waitrose.. allown brand dog/cat food/mixer/treats were 25% off. Waitrose still had Evian 6 packs 2 for £4 and Innocent juices 2 for £3 so I indulged. Got some Appleby's Cheshire cheese YS to 2.64

Then Sainsbury's because my mother and friends now have a thing for the Respect organic carrot cake so she bought three.. I picked up a YS organic half leg of lamb for 4.85 reduced from 9.77 and two Heinz Mediterranean veg pasta with Mascarpone pouch things for OH reduced from 1.38 to 94p each. Badoit was on offer 2 for 1.50 and I got some YS organic leeks.

I am not going shopping again this week !!

Dinner is either Soupe de poissons with rouille (and baguette for OH) or organic sirloin steak with watercress, spinach and rocket plus salad or buffalo curry but whichever, I'm not cooking :rotfl:
