I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

Hi all.
Made the mistake of going to asda for 'a few things' and came out with a couple of shopping bags mainly consisting of whoopsies. Managed to get a £5 chicken for £2, some ready meals for 70p, also 2 packs of lamb mince reduced from £4 each to £1.40.
I went through the self scan but the first pack of mince wouldn't scan so left both for the guy to do. Left and picked up ds, struggling with the shopping. Waiting for the bus I checked my receipt properly to see a pack had scanned at full price. Had to go back to asda which felt like miles, for a refund plus got the £2 gift card for their error. :T
Didn't make the cheesy pasta, ds insisted on soup, so chopped up the ham I'd got out the freezer and fried it a little before adding a tin of mushroom soup. I'm having hunter's chicken.
Sequeena - hope you're feeling better soon. x
ms_night_ryder - that chilli sounds nice, how do you make it?There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
Hi everyone! I have no energy today! I think it is time for my B12 injection (I need them every 3 months) so that is probably why. Had loads of work to do and it involved loads of reading and I kept nearly falling asleep!
Breakfast was toast and tea, lunch was jacket potato with the new Heinz five beans and haven't had our curry for tea yet. The Heniz five beans were nice, but I had forgotten how bland the Heinz beans sauce was compared to the Branston. I think Heinz must have reduced the salt or something because they didn't have an awful lot of taste - I had to stir in a bit of ketchup!! I think that when I have a toast without protein in the morning I always feel more tired for some reason.
ammonite - thanks for the bbq bolognaise recipe - will have a google for it in a bit. Well done in Aldi!!
lynsey - I agree on the kids front!! My two were hard work and never slept until they were about 4 and it has gone downhill from there!! Not really..... Mind you until their Dad left it was like I had three difficult children - talk about Little Lord Fontelroy - I am not kidding - when I met him (aged 22) his Mum still did him a baby bottle (with a teet) with horlicks in every night!!
NSD today:T
Tomorrow is DD2's birthday so I will have to nip out and get her a card in the morning, (she is on leave from work and won't be up until about 11!) but I am hoping not to have to buy anything else as I bought her presents over the last couple of weeks, mostly with my Amazon trade-in vouchers which have brought me in over £100 so far!!
I love that lidl living salad, but they don't always have it in my lidl - never thought of seeing if it would re-grow though..
Am starting to see a few gaps in the freezer now, but it is still pretty full and there should be plenty of meals until after the end of the month. I have run out of bread flour though, and I am toying with the idea of nipping to Farm Foods and buying their Hovis as it lasts longer, particularly if I buy the wholemeal!
Edwardia - hope your Mum gets some nice cheese in Neal's Yard - I love going there, but am only in London rarely (for work) but it is super nice!Jane
ENDIS. Employed, no disposable income or savings!0 -
Sequeena - hope you are feeling better.
ammonite - you can have your medal, well done with that effort.
Lip_Stick - I need to get that £2 gift card, had loads of DTD, but never the gift card and have been overcharged in Asda.
Jane - the post gave me a chuckle, typical Scouse humour - hope your feeling well.
Busy day and our Son is now the proud owner of a brand new Corsa - or will be on Saturday!! We shared the cost with him (soft I know), but actually better value by far to get a new car with free insurance and 0% interest rather than pay £2.5k+ for insurance and £3.5k+ for a 5 year old car.
If you see a kid driving around London in a new white Corsa, that's our Son. lol
That's our planned "free" holiday "out of the window" and all that bl***y effort!!!
Spent last of pennies in Factory Outlet shops - hubby got a shirt for £4.99 from £29.99 in M&S and I got some tights for 99p from £8.
No food shopping today and may try a NSD tomorrow - keep pennies for Saturday.
Those cream muffins in Morries (half-price @ 82p for 2) were really nice and a good size - well worth the money.

Lynsey - your son is a lucky boy. I can see the sence in getting a new car when the insurance is so high.
Ammonite - have you made lasagne or goulash for batch freezing. The other one I do is fish pie, but I tend to just freeze the fish mixture and then make the mash fresh. I also do sausage casserole and lamb hotpot (again with the lamb I do the meat and then when recooking I put the potatoes on fresh but you can freeze the whole thing).
Lip stick - what a pain about having to trek back to Asda but at least they gave you something for your trouble.
recovering spendaholic - hope your DD2 has a lovely birthday tomorrow.
Ms Night Ryder - the chilli sounds delicious. What a great idea to put salsa in. I never thought of that and it would make it lovely and chunky.
sequeena - hope you feel better soon.
Had a bit of a blip last night as we had a chinese takeaway. Not had one for ages and DH felt I deserved one as he had been away over night in a swanky hotel for work and had a delicious dinner, whilst I was at home with the two boys, and the youngest DS is cutting 4 top teeth - aaargh - talk about a grumpy badger - wee soul. Anyway it was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Back on track today.
[STRIKE]Sunday: Adults - pork belly with chinese pancakes and salad, Kids – Roasted pork belly, cubie potatoes and veg
Monday: Adults and DS1 - burgers in buns, and salad, DS2 - shepherds pie
Tuesday: Me - Smoked sausage and rice, Boys - fish, mash and peas (DH in Aberdeen for work so just me and the boys)
Wednesday: Adults and DS1 - chinese takeaway DS2 - Lamb casserole.

Friday: Adults - southern fried chicken goujons, garlic mushrooms, onion rings, kids - chicken goujons, wedges, veg

have taken an inventory of all the stuff in the fridge as need to try and use that up this week as we are away on holiday the following week. Will menu plan tomorrow and then have a very short shopping list.0 -
Jane just LOL at the baby bottle, did he drink it?
Lynsey aren't you a good mum, bet your son is glad he has you.
Did get my butt to zumba and i enjoyed it, told my instructor that i didn't enjoy the last 2 classes, had a chat with another girl who goes and my instructor after class, was really nice, I'm usually straight out the door, I'm a bit shy, don't really know what to say lol, I'm alright when i get chatting to a person, its just the awkward bit before.
Did a pre scout of my mr s for whoopsies, needed to get a bottle of water, I usually bring m own, but the bottle needed to be replaced, only looked at f&v whoopsies but there were no whoopsies, on the way home from Zumba I stopped at the Mr s near to zumba, kept to my £2 spend, spent £1.78 on some whoopsied grapes 99p and 2 mini cos lettuce 39p and some strawberry flakes 38p because I was peckish. So still sticking to f&v which I'm pleased about.
Just about to take the roast pots and chicken out of the oven, decided no veg.
lol had to back and edit my post it was appaling spelling, had my chicken was yummy.Lose 28lb 3/28lb

Thanks everyone, I'm feeling a bit better now. Swigging cough medicine like there's no tomorrow!
recovering spendaholic my son doesn't sleep either (10 months). It's exhausting and infuriating when people keep going on at me that he should be sleeping 12 hours solid at this age. I don't like being up until 3am every night
Well done on the whoopsies everyoneonce I'm better I'll have to start meeting OH from work again so I can get the best bargains :T
Glad you enjoyed your takeaway Maisie. It's nice to have a treat now and again.
I have just found mini cheese and onion pasties in the freezer. So tempted to bung them in the oven so I've got something to pick at instead of trying to force a meal down.
lynsey your son is very lucky, hope he enjoys his new carWife and mother :jGrocery budget

Still waiting for lamb joint from freezer to roast with fennel, leeks, organic shallots, organic carrots, rosemary, HG chives, HG bay leaf.. OH will get leftovers for his rolls tomorrow.
OH got email saying he had ecoupons and vouchers for Tesco so as it was raining cats n dogs here I did an Internet shop for Saturday including organic veg and diced beef on offer plus dog food and shampoo and worked out I got 100 extra points plus saved 6.72 and vouchers = free delivery.0 -
Evening all. The chicken I bought is sat in the fridge. Not sure what to do with it.
Can't remember the last time I bought a full chicken, if I ever have. May have to google how to quarter it.
I've also got two lots of the lamb that I'm not sure what to make either. Think I'll make a shepherd's pie with one, and maybe koftas or meatballs with another. Date is tomorrow, but to be honest, not looking forward to fitting them in my freezer.
Lynsey - that's lovely to do that for you son. Very generous. Hope you get some good offers and vouchers etc to help you on your way to having that holiday.
ms_night_ryder - are you typing on your phone by any chance? Or are you getting smashed on red wine? There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
Lipstick, deffo typing on my phone! Haha don't like wine, give me a rum and coke anyday. Cut the breast off the chicken and chop the rest up, is it already cooked? Can't remember.Lose 28lb 3/28lb
