  • I went to nearby town with a Farm Fds shop and bought lot of stuff I do not see locally. Rammed into overflow freezer (other stuffed again but defrosted). Went to get something out a couple of days later and eeeeek the door was everso slightly ajar and frozen round the top. The chicken legs n theighs had started to thaw so took them out as well as the pack of smoked haddock. I had some of the haddock that day and put the chick in oven. I then put the theighs and legs into sc with tin of chick soup.Got rid of the ice off the top and the door shuts now, the pizza box had started to thaw but I thought that would be OK, ditto the pkt of veg. Managed to squeeze the remains of fish into kitchen freezer - good job its flat. Made 2 meals from sc (after deboning) and managed to pop in spaces in freezer, ate the 2 breasts one day and then remains of sc. Feeling OK and this was a couple of days ago. Nearly a real disaster and no need to buy ANYTHING for months, had just had a ROSSPA delivery of tins. Panic mode.
Going on hol now to recupe. Byeeeee:eek:

i am after a bit of advice and ideas :o

i have been given 35 cooked sausages they are mixed flavours cumberland , lancashire , pork + tomato , !
i wasn't going to turn them down , they were free :D
also got a big piece of gammon ham which i have sliced ready for pack ups for the rest of the week ;)

    can i freeze them ?

we are not really big sausage eater , the most i usually do with them is , sausage cobs or sausage and mash

i though maybe a toad in the hole tonight , will that work with them already being cooked?

    any other suggestions ?
made a sausage cassorole once using a packet mix :( but nobody liked it
how do you make your sausage cassorole ?

whmf well done on dealing with your crisis so well atleast nothing was wasted.

lynsey i'm pretty happy really it's a good 4-5 days worth of food for £4 can't complian at that, i think i need to do more whoopsie shopping :p

dawn i'm sure you'd be ok to freeze them, people freeze tode in the hole and sausage casarole all teh time, but i'd freeze them as they are, if you cook them now they'll have been cooked and reheasted, then if you freeze them they'll have been reheated again, so i would just freeze them now.

i make my sausage casarole with the packet and i love it so no help there altho i think it's just veg and chopped tomatoes really.

    what about cowboy pie?

i'm having sausage pie tonight but it's a variation of sheperds pie, sausages, beans veg friedn onions topped with mash and cheese, we've had it before lots of times (i seem to always be able to get reduced sausages) it's not the fanciest food ever but it is nice.

I used cooked sausages in my sausage pie. You could also make pasties.

    Afternoon all.

I had lunch of 2 potato skins filled with sweetcorn cheese and bacon, these were yummy and so easy, i think i will do the rest of the potatos in the same way, as i get mash and potatoe skins out of it, also put the last roll in the oven along with some bacon, but i left it in too long, the bacon was very done and the roll was hard so ate the insides, i will know for next time.

While that was heating up, i browned off the mince which looked lovely and fresh after being in the freezer, i added a old el paso glitch salsa sauce, i really didnt know what to use it on lol, i also used a small can of tomato puree and half a can of kidney beans, grated 2 bendy carrots in, added the last of the tinned sweetcorn, half a onion and some garlic, also added, soy sauce, chilli powder, white wine vinegar and some herbs, smells really lovely, its in the sc being finished off.

I have decided i should walk for an hour on the days i don't do my exercise classes, so will pop out later, may look for whoopsies, my freezer drawers are getiing emptier, need to get it right down, want to fill it with costco meats bought in bulk after my bday and mini break to holland and belgium :)

Meat drawer now has the following x 1 sea bass whole, x1 pork mince, x1 lean beef mince, x 6 flavoured chicken breasts easy cook mr w and mr t, 4 slices of bacon x3 tesco finest burgers x 1 m&s sausages x 1 pack of sausages from my butchers.

Will need to get it down, so will target fruit and veg whoopsies only, will only take a few pounds out with me and no cards, don't want to spend too much.

I need to make some bread or rolls, have 2 wrights bread mixes, that i got with coupons, one goes out of dat early july the other late july, will make some rolls to use the burgers with one day, hope i find some whoopsied salad to go with it lol.

Hi y'all hope you are all well and enjoying any sunshine.

I HOPE x fingers that the Internet connectivity probs are sorted since another engineer came out. Apologies for only reading this page cos I'm behind on everything..

Maisie M.. the veg was diced up to similar size so it cooked evenly and the aubergine used in strips as 'lasagne' sheets in between a couple of layers as was some Mozzarella cheese. Oiled the bottom lightly with EV olive oil to stock it sticking, the veg gave themselves enough juice to cook in so didn't add stock. The top layer was a handful of mixed nuts ground in a mortar and pestle to resemble breadcrumbs and mixed with grated Parmesan and more Mozzarella to form a crust. As soon as we could smell it was nearly finished we whipped off the foil so the top layer would go golden brown and crunchy :) Cheap way of using up odd bits of veg and cheese. Whether you need to add a bit of stock down the sides depends whether the veg you're using have a high juice content or not.

OH got out British veal mince from freezer last night and some lamb but I may go mooch to shops later.

Tried doing Internet shop this morning but 10 out of my favourite 91 items not available at the branch of Waitrose I use and a lot of it was meat. ASDA locally just doesn't do great meat so I think I may well be using Sainsbury's more in future.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Got most of what I wanted today from Sainsbury's and Aldi.

Spent £4.27 so far and only thing I missed food-wise was the jacket potatoes as they were 69p for 4.

Sainsbury's have the Vitalite back on at 2 for £1.80 - 60p each when using 2 x 30p coupons ............................... no coupons with me though!!!! Always another day and just printed off another 6 coupons. I actually don't mind Vitalite and well worth 60p per tub.

My Lidl meat offer this weekend is pork medallions - they are nice, but I don't need them - maybe 2 packs, but no more.

Nothing I'm interested in, in the Lidl weekend offers but the offers from tomorrow include Piel de Sapo, Galia and Canteloupe melons and several French and Belgian cheeses - plus for OH, Gauloise beers, stuffed chillies, McVitie's milk chocolate digestives, Rubicon mango juice drink, and Fiddes Payne Jamaican Jerk seasoning.
  • Hi Everyone - welcome to the newbies!!

I am feeling very frustrated and have been for the last couple of days. With bills and committments and DD1's birthday which is on Friday, I have left myself with very little cash to last until I get paid early next week. I have plenty of food in the house, but kids are moaning because they don't want it - they want rubbish and expensive packet stuff and takeaways which are both not good for them and really expensive.

Anyway - I made a hm pizza for lunch as DD1 is off work for two weeks and is eating in every day, and for tea I am making hm spaghetti bolognaise. I made up a big batch of bolognaise sauce using one of the 25p Asda jars and it is really nice. I have divided it and will freeze half for another day. I also found a cheesecake at the back of the freezer when I was getting the mince out so that will serve as afters!

Will go back and have a good read through now!! Hope you are all well.
    Jane
