Nearly had a broken freezer drawer front today, absolutely jammed and loads of trouble trying to free it. Own fault as everything was going well. No spend day yesterday and no spending today.

Had toast and hubby's off, so he had a sausage sandwich for beakfast.
Lunch/tea - I've taken out some cooked mince and a pack of 10p shortcrust pasty and I'm making a plate pie and having with potatoes and carrots. Taken out a 19p pack of rhubarb crumbles, so a very cheap day.

Not even thought about tomorrow - that's another day.

    :j can I join??:j

have 2 fridge/ freezers with the freezer bits rammed full.

Trouble is DH only eats processed food: chicken a breaded/ battered variety of), golden drummers, turkey steaks, pizza, sausages, bacon. And yes that is pretty much it. he will eat fresh chicken and fresh pork joint (not steaks **rolls eyes** - don't ask) No vegetables/ fish/ mince will pass his lips (even disguised)

If allowed he would happily eat:
    Monday: pizza
tuesday: hot n spicy chicken steaks and chips
    wed: breaded chicken n chips
    thurs: golden drummers n chips
    fri: sausages and chips
    saturday: pizza
    sunday: garlic chicken n chips

    (you get the idea)

I (and DS1) on the other hand will eat the above but also like 'homecooked' food (chicken pie, chicken soup, pork steaks, mince etc).

there is an entire tray of chips and "processed potato products".

one tray of lollies/ ice creams etc.

I will only cook for him if he is having what i am having.

Although I could successfully pass this challange on my own it is harder with him as as soon as he runs out (generally 2 weeks) I have to replace the stock and normally cave and buy loads more for me too :(

Am off to itinerize my freezer and meal plan (I ment to do this 2 week ago - did the list but not the planning now I can't remember what has been eaten **DOH**.)
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

...........until I bought 36 tins of Tarantella organic chopped tomatoes at 12p per tin. :o

£4.32 investment though as these are great tomatoes and not a freezer item.

Hello there! I've been lurking on this thread for a little while now, and whilst I am not fully doing the challenge (as living with my in-laws at the mo) I have been very inspired by all your posts.

I am (hopefully!) relocating in 4 weeks so trying to save cash and clear the cupboards for my in-laws of all the random food Ive amassed over the years that they don't like!

I have set myself the challenge to eat stuff outta the fridges and cupboards as the darling boyf and I regularly do a big shop at Sainsbugs and fill the cupboards but the good intentions slide by the wayside..... As a (now reformed?) habitual daily lunch-buyer I have changed my ways- for the past 2 1/2 weeks I have only bought lunch once (1/13 days is not too shabby).

To do this I have been making sandwiches (first time in 3 1/2 years!), eating the random tins of soup I have bought over the past few years, made little jellies (using OOD jelly packs hiding in the cupboards) and generally trying to spend as little as possible.

I am off sick today (:() so have pulled out the old butternut squash thats been in the fridge something ridiculous like 6-8 weeks and have chopped it up with some old spuds hanging around, and made some butternut soup, which I will eat some in a bit (tummy permitting) and put the rest in tupperware- some for work tomorrow, rest for freezer for next week!

I will prob go back to lurking but wanted to say how INSPIRED I was by all your posts and ideas for using up stuff hidden in freezers/cupboards etc. :T:T:TKeep it all up guys & thanks for the ideas (& the much needed kick up the 'arris!) :T:T:T

Today lunch was salad from fridge and dinner was a reduced roll and tuna mayo from store cupboard.

Defrosted soem chicken and bacon and made OH pasta salad for a few day's lunches. I've done a tuna sweetcorn pitta for my lunch tomorrow.

Bought some reduced marinated drumsticks from Waitrose for the freezer, so replace the chicken i used as we don't often eat chicken, so if i can get it cheap i will get some.

  • Was up late today as was working late last night so we had a brunch of reduced rolls (yesterday in Tesco all the rolls and stuff were 25p for a big bag) with bacon and cheese (from when it was B1G2F the other week) and cherry tomatoes; dinner was chicken breasts (from freezer) with salad and baguette (bake your own from storecupboard) followed by Tesco low fat ice dessert (it's LOVELY and only £1.30 for 2litres). I also made a smoothie of sorts with some about to go off strawberries.

Went to Aldi today to buy a shower as they had one last week on special for £59.99 and ended up spending another £15 on stuff - mostly peppers and fruit and jams, cereals and dog stuff. Must try and have a couple of NSD's now!

    Back on top again. lol
Hammering the freezer now. Had some large prawns in a stir fry and took out some chicken drumsticks, hubby had chicken stir fry.
Pork loin chops out for tomorrow and took out some teacakes for breakfast.
So with all that and the mince and pasty out and more teacakes and the crumbles, I've actually got some space and no more jamming drawers.
Might have fish and chips for Friday with the haddock fillets??
Anyone have a decent batter recipe to share?? I usually buy chip-shop batter mixes, but have none in.
