Evening all!
Not a bad weekend here- made some cakes yesterday which fed 2 hungry men (and me!) with still enough for tomorrow and some to take to work!
Quorn and Veg curry with rice and dhal all from fridge/freezer/cupboards , I did stock up on some salad and ham tho for lunches etc.. as its so hot!!
Tomorrow's menu is soup from the freezer for lunch with (defrosted) bread! yogurts and fruit, then chilli for dinner (will probably do another nite too!)
Managed some quorn "fish" fingers for 50p today ... no idea what theyll taste like but like other quorn things so will be a cheap quick dinner one nite (8 in a pack!) freezer is full as anything so no bargain hunting for a while, hoping to eat up stocks over the next month - I will be amazed if I ever see the back of my freezer!!
In Happy news I have just found out there is a Lidl opened less than 10 mins from where I live! so excited!! only prob is cant used c/cards there which we usually use to get points from the supermarket ... hmmm..how to overcome such an obstacle!...may look for debit card doing cashback or resort to cash as its probably worth losing the points for the saving in money (plus might help keep a tighter rein on shopping money if taking cash out of a limited supply!)...
ps florenceem did I miss the recipie for syrup cake? Ill have a look back just in case... it sounds yummy and makes me hungry every time you talk about it!!0 -
Stuff the tea, get stuck into that cheap wine. lol
Geraniums?? I love geraniums and have quite a few - my guess would be over-watering - they like to dry out between watering.
Yep, got stuck into the vino again. The trouble is, half a glass here, half a glass there, you quickly lose track of how much you've drunk when using a box. On the other hand, no pressure to finish the bottle - "just a glass left". I've only ever had the rose ones before cos its lovely to have a cold glass with a few olives or somesuch before dinner - ooh, very civilised lol.
I'm not sure about the geraniums cos they were first out when the terrible rains last week were about, so perhaps they had too much rain. I'm keeping an eye on the saucers to see when they dry up ... Great tip though Lynsey, I didn't know that.
I ended up making a kind of couscousy salad with a spicy premix base with oats in it too, added some finely sliced fennel, diced cucumber, olive oil and lime juice. Then I cooked up a wrinkly green pepper and beef in slices in ginger and garlic. Mixed it all together. Delish. And enough for three meals if I'm not too greedy :-) I also added in the end of a packet of raisins that were lurking. Should've soaked them first methinks.0 -

Mr F only has to get a piece of JJ's herby cheese bread out of the freezer tonight - we already have two day's dinner's lined up in the fridge. We will bag up the frozen rhubarb while the freezer is open. Two yummy slices of eldest DGS's Birthday cake - to have with a cup of tea for elevenses tomorrow! :j
We had fried off cut up jacket potatoes, mushrooms, tomatoes, bacon and baked beans with added freshly ground black pepper and a dash of peri peri sauce. Cooked in non stick pans with just a quick spray of healthy oil. Too hot to have the oven on plus I list on Eb.. on Sunday evenings.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Evening all.
Still feeling sore from sunburn, I've got stripy legs lol. Feels really tight when I stand still on one of them.
Flo - Thanks for your advice, ds' nanna got treated for skin cancer on her leg last year, she now has a large deep pit on the front of the lower part of her leg (don't know what you call that part lol) but it's hopefully ok.
Ds has been up late, wouldn't get to sleep. I told him if he didn't get to sleep I'd be really cross. I hear him calling me, and I go into his room, for him to tell me 'I don't care'!!!!! while half asleep. Cheeky little bleeder! First time he's said anything like that.
Anyway, it's his birthday tomorrow, pressies are all wrapped, just need to get party bags sorted while he's at school. Don't know what I'm having for meals, will be quick while I'm on the go I expect.
Hope all has had a good weekend. xThere's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
Made some fresh cream iced buns today - made sweet dough in the breadmaker and filled them with cream and jam and topped with icing. They were delicious, but I took 6 of them round to my friend's as they wouldn't keep in this heat and it reduced the temptation to eat them all!! Had one with a cup of tea and it was lovely!
Had a bit of a mad day really. This afternoon found out that ex DH (kids' Dad) who we hadn't heard from for two weeks and who was in the bad books, was actually in hospital having had a heart attack. Kids were distraught and went to the hospital to find that he had been in for 12 days and no-one had told them, but there were all get well cards from his new ladyfriend and her kids and cards from his friends at work. They were so angry and upset that he hadn't told them, that they wouldn't eat any tea when they came in so it had to go in the fridge for tomorrow.
Will definitely get some of the Avocados from aldi supersix this week, but unless I get paid then that will be all I am buying!!
I was watching Nigel Slater on TV last night and he made this duck leg thing with orange and lemon and it looked so lovely - I have downloaded the recipe and will have a go at it soon as I get some duck legs!!
Hope it is a bit cooler here tomorrow as I need to do housework and have a go at the garden!Jane

Morning.
Lip_Stick - have a great day with your son, hope he enjoys it.
Jane - sad about your ex and your "kids" not finding out sooner, hope he's ok though.
The Super 6 is pretty dire for myself and taking Brother there this morning!!!
Looks like the weather may be cooling!!!
Sofiaki - maybe they (geraniums) had too much water then in that rain, especially if wet already??
Get some plastic ones, no watering problems to worry about. lol
Just keep them away from very hot sun ............. or they'll melt.
rafspender - welcome to the forum.
Breakfast today will be toasted hot cross bun loaf, "Veggie" lunch will be baked potato with cheese and a salad and 2 scones to finish off. Just pick the rest of the day.
Took milk out of freezer and defrosting, then start using the 50p off coupons and get some Cravendale (10 coupons so far). I'll get 2 litres tonight and see what Sainsbury's have reduced - get a few more mags ................... if any left.
Enjoy what's left of the sun - lovely day yesterday up here, but son said it was far too hot in London!!!
