Hi Piknie - it's amazing when you actually sit down and work out how much food you actually have if you stick with 'recommended' portion sizes (says very tongue in cheek ;) !). 50g serving of pasta or rice means 10 servings per 500g bag, and if you took advantage of the recent 9p 'pasta wars' that's a heap of food to get through.... Good luck!

Another NSD today (for me anyway) - OH went to the bank to transfer some savings and decided he fancied some stinky cheese for a weekend ploughmans. Good excuse to eat more of the bl***y 3 inch cucumbers anyway. Day two of four day rubber chicken tonight via a Chinese.

Quintwins - savoury 'non'-brekkies are fab. nothing wrong with a sandwich, leftover takeaway, pizza, soup......

    Have a good evening all.
Sometimes, I can't see the wood for the trees - or the couscous for the quinoa... 3 no spends so far for August 2011!

  • I took my lunch to work again today. Tonight I couldn't decide what to have I'd lifted a packet of bacon & some sausages out of the freezer but didn't know what to do with them. I also had 1/2 a dozen eggs but didn't want a fry up then I had a brain wave and decided that instead of using everything up in one go I'd try and eek it all out to last even longer. So, I did a fried rice with bacon, eggs, frozen sweetcorn, frozen peas and left over roasted red peppers. Even if I do say so myself, it was lovely and I really enjoyed it. Even better there's enough left over for another couple of meals, as long as I don't try and eat anymore of it tonight! I need to get my portion sizes under control, it's ridiculous the amount I eat.

I've also had another look in my freezer tonight and I should definitely be able to make it through the remainder of the month without buying anymore food although I will miss not having fresh fruit, veg and yoghurts.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Morning, just a snacky day today.
Desparate for some bacon, I'm sure Sainsburys have/had some on half-price offer, so may have to indulge.
    Half a dozen eggs needed.

made mince pies today as I had some mincemeat jars left over from christmas (!) so thought it was about time they were used! The kids have loved making pastry, even if the kitchen does look like a flour bomb has gone off!!!! :D

I think i should have enough in my freezer to see us through to the end of the month. If all else fails we've got enough beans to make beans on toast for 2 weeks!

Tonight I have a burrito which i bought in town (a real treat, as i only go there about twice a year)

Tomorrow will be toast from my WW loaf in the freezer, Lemon and rosemary chicken thighs with potatoes, stuffing and gravy. The chicken is defrosting and have everything else in so no spending needed.

  • I had cold leftover fried rice for my breakfast this morning.;)

I had lunch out but it was for a MS shop so I don't think it counts.:p

I decided to nip out to get a few (non-food) bits but then was really naughty & bought some crisps & choc so have just eaten those instead of a proper meal tonight.

can I join in ? I have realy got to cut back, I am doing the grocery challenge on the os board, and I think incorporating this in with it I should be able to come in on budget(£300).:j
Yesturday we had toast for breckfast, lunch was home made soup made with a butternut squash and sweet potatoe that have been in my veg box for weeks:eek: leeks, carrots which were going soft, tined toms and Garlic served with a dolop of greek yogart it was yummy:j:jand for our main meal we had a chicken curry, which the only thing I had to buy was A red Pepper and I have plenty left of both for an other time I have potioned them out and frozen.

Todays Lunch will be sandwiches, and our main meal will be a lamb ,cassarole in my slow cooker, potatoes and cabbage all of which I had in my fridge/freezer.

I had got very lazzy with my cooking ,i.e what i mean is we were eating the same old things week in week out, this I hope will get me using my imagination a bit more, this site is great for ideas and insperation.
