Not keen to read the quorn news- sounds horrible! but we have been buying quorn for a few months now as it tastes nice and much cheaper/easier than chicken etc.. may avoid google and stay in denial a little longer, I thought it was made out of mushrooms too!!
I remember years ago watching a programme about food & flavourings. They handed out slices of lemon meringue pie & one guy was tucking in with gusto. Then they showed him mould growing on something (in my mind it was an old boot but surely that can't be right ) and told him that's what the flavouring came from. "Really?" he said, and carried on tucking on :rotfl:. That would have been me too.

Unless i can find a suitable alternative i will still be buying quorn, hopefully there may be some offers on soon, it does seem to have gone up in price. Though I might try some soya mince if i can find some.
Recovering spendaholic, i believe i have some smoked fish in the freezer which could be approx 18 months old, i have seen a recipe somewhere to flake it and mix with cheese, cream possibly garlic and pepper. Spread the mixture on toast and grill. I havent tried it myself yet, but might put it on my meal plan for week beginning 14th May for Friday's evening meal.I could make a nice pudding to follow.Grocery Challenge 24th Feb-28 Dec 2012 £2000/£1404

Morning all. Off to BHS for the free fish and chips today. Yumm. They don't serve it with peas though and it's clearly on the plate on the picture. Might phone up about it lol. Anyone been for them and had peas?
Not sure what to do for tea, ended up having a chicken wrap for tea yesterday, didn't have lunch. May have the lamb shanks tonight.
Spent a few quid yesterday on a can and some sweets for pictures for tomorrow morning. 2 packs of aero bubbles for £1.75 which I thought was good value. Just have to work out if I want orange or mint! Hopefully I won't have to fight ds for a flavour.
Going to make twink's hob nobs today when I get back. Was going to make them last night but I only had a couple of oz of butter, and would have had to use anchor spreadable for the remainder. Wasn't sure if they'd go hard enough. Totally fudged up a fudge recipe using spreadable.. don't want to make the same mistake again lol.
Flo that cake looks delicious. Wish I could bake like that. Might try make one for spuds birthday.
abitofhelp - like the sound of that recipe with the fish. Seems easy and tasty.
gallygirl - wasn't a certain colouring used from crushed beetles? Sure it is, or was. Some things that they do with food are just weird. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -

Mr F is not allowed to put on weight!
Hope that TITH pic was food on a saucer. lol
Had my porridge and hubby had cheese on toast.
Stir fry later (veggie), I'm not a Quorn fan apart from the mince, but hubby uses it and I'll take a Quorn fillet out for his stir fry.
Took out the cookie dough out ot the fridge and will cook soon.
Lip_Stick - a new BHS has opened in Newcastle centre and hopefully they'll have a cafe - I would like to try this offer - enjoy.
Hoping for a NSD today if possible and keep pennies for tomorrow.
L'Oreal.
Tesco and Sainsbury's have the shampoos on at 2 for £3.50, so only 50p for 2 using coupons.
Drizzling today, not nice and Bank Holiday looks iffy!!

Just back from GP's surgery and my blood sugar is down to normal. :jTechnically that means I no longer have diabetes. I say technically, because I'm sure if I were to eat that yummy looking cake, I'd be flat on my back !!
Normal blood pressure, excellent cholesterol, normal kidney function now I'm actually extremely healthy. Well chuffed.
Hope you all have a great Bank Holiday weekend xxx
I think cochineal is still used but disguised with an E number. French polish aka shellac is beetle shells dissolved in ethanol.
When we were really poor 1994-1999 we used to eat soya curry, soya lasagne, soya chilli con carne, soya shepherd's pie and soya bolognese cos we couldn't afford meat let alone pay our utility bills though we were both working. The mere thought of soya makes me want to throw up now !0 -

That is brilliant news about your blood tests!
IT just goes to show that eating sugar is the real culprit and that a low fat diet is not necessary.
I keep saying that I am going to reduce my carbs but never do but your experience and your blood test results have made me more determined!
Had a slice of wholemeal toast for breakfast and have just had a couple of tbs of Lidl muesli mixed with one of those Muller lite greek yoghurts for lunch. I bought the ML greek style the other day and they aren't bad, although IMO they do taste a bit chemically. Might get some proper greek yoghurt and add my own flavourings.
Have got chicken breasts out of the freezer for kids evening meal, and I have got some turkey mince out for me - I will make my hurrycurry as I like that but the kids don't. I have a 400g pack of turkey mince so that should make my tea and about 3 portions for the freezer.
Just off out to the shops for milk and some bits and pieces. I don't have much meat in the freezer and can't decide whether or not to get an online meat order or not.Jane

Afternoon all.
Had a slice of lasagne for lunch, followed h some b&j icecream, yum, finally managed to fit 1 slice in the freezer, only a small slice left will have it tomorrow, for dinner I will use up some older veg and have it with some of the Bacon joint, drizzled with honey and shoved in the oven with some aunt bessies roasties.
Lasagne will be finished tomorrow, so Sunday I'm making ribs, corn, chilli and cheese muffins and home made cheesy coleslaw with peas if I can be arsed.Lose 28lb 3/28lb

Edwardia - good all seems sorted.
Those cookies were really nice with the Sainsbury's cookie dough - wish I had bought the other packet now, hopefully another day!!
The amount of new stuff I've had by being frugal and "whoopsie" hunting has been amazing. Stuff I would never ever buy at full price and just bought because it was reduced/cheap. I certainly haven't suffered and had to economise with food items - thank God.
Eating habits have changed slightly as I refuse to buy certain things now, mainly to protect budget.
Toiletries, out of control now and a serious issue. Just sorted a few things out this morning and it's crazy the amount of stuff I have. Far too many coupons available for toiletries/household cleaning items and I feel I would miss out by not taking more - the companies seem to be fighting each other to promote their own brands!!
The profit margins on this type of stuff must be massive!! That's if you pay full price and somebody must do that?? Even at half-price, the profit margins must be massive!!
Jane - turkey mince is lovely and virtually fat free. I love making spag bol with it, a slightly sweeter taste.
