I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

Evening all, i have a tub of chicken, chorizo & butterbean stew to fit in the freezer. Which will be a struggle as i got round to slicing the joint of beef i left in the fridge last night.
Recovering spendaholic, i have used fish that had been in the freezer for over two years. Whilst i dont think it would be suitable for serving grilled & plain, i used it for thai style fish cakes. I wizzed up the fish with some onion, garlic, chilli & ginger, thai curry paste. They were perfectly edible served with salad & sweet chilli dip.Grocery Challenge 24th Feb-28 Dec 2012 £2000/£1404

NSD for me today.. defrosting in the fridge are a Morrisons YS ray for my lunch, and a couple of quails (Sainsbury's special offer) for dinner tomorrow night
In the oven are the 2 for £4 salmon fillets (ASDA offer) with sliced limes (Waitrose offer), fennel (£1 each in ASDA so not bad) and red bell pepper (Waitrose offer) with Cajun seasoning. Dinner is late cos OH went to Sainsbury's to get me Lindt 90% chocolate bless.
If weather not too bad tomorrow I'm off in search of a splatterguard. Hoping Wilkinson will have one.
recovering_spendaholic that sounds awful !! (((recovering_spendaholic))) and I use my old tshirts as dusters.

cheerfulness4 - fantastic that you got sorted, great news.
Jane - unbelievable!! Hope all goes to plan next time, no doubt they'll take extra care.
Popped into Sainsbury's to get some cheap reduced olives, which were supposed to be delivered today, but alas not!!
Spent another £1.07 on:
Yellow pepper was 80p - 19p
Organic carrots were £1.10 - 29p
Single cream (300ml) was 90p - 10p
Chocolate chip cookie dough was £2.00 - 49p
Pepper will do for tomorrows stir fry - veggie day 2 of the week.
I was going to freeze the cookie dough, but use it tomorrow and have some with the cream, so nothing frozen today apart from a bag of milk.
Days spend was £3.07 and not much left of the weeks budget, but little needed.
That 50p per 100g gammon ham from Morries is lovely, wish it was that price every week. Hope they keep doing similar offers on the deli counter.

Evening all
I've just caught up on the thread having been too busy to check in for a few days.
I made sweet potato and mixed bean quesadillas for dinner tonight and they were nummy:D
Sainsbug's reductions this week have been a bit pants, but I did get 10 of the small tins of black olives today as we love those and I prefer the small tins - one serving, give or take a few.
Oh and yesterday they seemed to have gone beserk with the sale labels in the kosher section again. Tuna 30p a tin, baked beans 17p, tinned pea soup 27p, digestive biscuits 27p and kosher pot noodles 27p. I staggered into school today with loads of goodies to share
I did laugh as the lady on the checkout told me that she now watches wwhat I buy as I seem to find all the bargains. :rotfl:I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly

I quite like Quorn but after reading whats been written on here and then having a scout about on Google I may have a re-think ...Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend...

We had roast potatoes, roast parsnip, HM Toad in the Hole, gravy with roasted beetroot, onions and red cabbage for dinner.
Mr F had already got tomorrow's dinner - salmon out of the freezer. However he had to venture in there again - take something out - chicken for Saturday - so he could fit in a tub of tonight's baking.

Was going to go to Tesco to look for ys but resisted! I only have got a little bit of milk left though so I will have to go tomorrow and get some. I have been buying Sainsburys 1% and quite like it - i usually get Cravendale but this is an acceptable substitute.
The kids were banging on about wanting supper so I used up the last of last nights hm sweet and sour for them - then they argued about who got the most!
florenceem - looks lovely!! i like toad in the hole but don't make it that often as it is badly fattening!!
Abitofhelp - thanks for the tip about the fish. I think that the fish I have is smoked fish so I might make a sort of kedgeree thing - the spices will act in the same way as the thai ones in the fish cakes and make the fish edible!Jane

I made a loaf in the BM tonight - I think my machine - 3 months past the guarantee date - is playing up. My last one of the same make went the same way - but was under guarantee so was replaced. I will not get the same model again!
I made a syrup cake while the oven was on.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Morning all!
Omg that syrup cake looks delish!! have you got a recipie? I reckon I would prob have all the things in I need as bought syrup for making flapjacks!!
Doing well on using things up and have just rearranged freezer again to fit 3 tubs of casserole and 2 tubs of roasted veg in!! casserole last nite plus tonite all from 6 sausages and loads of veg/pulses already in the cupboards! felt very satisfying!
Gonna do some baking over the bank hol weekend and then it should be easy meals for the forseeable future (until any freezer space left!!)
Not keen to read the quorn news- sounds horrible! but we have been buying quorn for a few months now as it tastes nice and much cheaper/easier than chicken etc.. may avoid google and stay in denial a little longer, I thought it was made out of mushrooms too!!
Just off to make pack lunch for today, cream cheese roll, fruit and crisps , casserole for tonite and operation "use up cereal before it goes ood" tomorrow morning!
have a good day all , lets keep fingers crossed the weather improves over the bank hol!0
