Hi all, hope you are all well. i am going to take out a bag of ready cooked chicken strips, i have some yogurt that needs using so i will marinade the strips with a spicy mixture and use for my lunches this week. also have wraps in the freezer so thats me sorted for the week. Oh will have quiche, cheese & onion pie for his lunches( that will also make more space) and i will bake a fresh loaf incase he wants to take sandwhiches. have made up a menu plan for the week to use up some of the excess from the freezers. i found a lovely recipe for crispy beef online, i will now need to locate a pack of thin steaks that i know are hiding in one of the freezers. wish me luck.Grocery Challenge 24th Feb-28 Dec 2012 £2000/£1404

Had our "freebie" meal and not brilliant and glad we never paid for it.
It was ok'ish and wouldn't go back ................ unless free.
I ended up having steak and Guinness pie, hubby had the mixed grill.
Popped into B&M's on the way (hubby found another £1 in locker to spend on bird seed. lol) and bought 12 packets of Walkers crisps for £2. 50g packs - 6 steak and onion and 6 cheese and onion (MAX).
£5.63 spent so far.
bunbun2 - thanks, when you say in Durham?? I won't go there.Nice part of the North East.

Hi oldies and newbies, back again after a short absence.
Still trying my level best to empty cupboards I only have two freezer drawers) and half managing. Approved Foods got me with their organic oils offer, but the use by date is next year, so all's good. I took them down into the cellar yesterday for storage in a dark cool place. I also ended up with quite a lot of wraps, amongst other things (8 50p toothbrushes, 20 cup hooks ... for example. Now wondering how to freeze them. Any recommendations? I've read that people say "separately" but step by step, what does that entail? Any advice gratefully received.
My stock of cheapo mackerel fillets has taken a bashing this week, with my newly found dish of warmed sliced fennel, cut up bacon rasher, small tin of corn and a tin of mackerel fillets with a light dressing, now enhanced by the hazelnut oil c/o AF.
A very simple "recipe" I made up (not exactly inventing the wheel) might be of interest as healthy nibbles with drinks. Greek yoghurt, tinned tuna, drop of olive oil, bit of dill, salt and pepper, bit of lime juice. Mix it all up and serve with sliced veg (fennel again features heavily for me) for dips. Cheap, quick and delish.
Off to make a small portion now to assist some sparkling wine. See you later ladies.0 -
Sofiaki - nice to see you posting.
The wraps will only need frozen individually if you don't want to use the full packet within a day or two. You can freeze them individually or in smaller amounts, wrap in foil to guard from any frost is one way.
Greek yoghurt reminds me I found a OOD tzatziki mix (dry mix) the other day, may get that used next week.

OMG, there are so many:o Im really trying to use all this up and utilise them. Been padding out couscous with the kidney beans and having peas with meals to use some up. The peas, kidney beans are value basics and were only a few pence each but are good protein sources. Before anyone says anything about the Tuna, I only like the John West yellowfin in spring water and can only find in Waitrose, so stock up when on offer or get a good voucher code to pad the shop out. I usually have more pulses which I add to curries or sauces to get more protein and nutrients.
I have done a meal plan for the next 3 weeks and as we work from home, I usually have a hot lunch or leftovers. There are 3 of us and DD has a packed lunch which usually is a sandwich, sausage roll, apple, raisins, natural yogurt, biscuit and water. I sometimes have a baked spud with tuna mayo and onion...yum!
Have a voucher code for £20 off a £75 spend at Waitrose, so may use it before it runs out the end of April and stock up on fresh meat as I prefer their meat to most other supermarkets and if I utilise the deals, I may get enough for a month, then we can buy fridge stuff from Aldi etc?

craigywv - welcome to the thread, I think a few of us have disorders. lol
Good luck.
Penny-Pincher!! - some list, well done for posting it all.
Looks like my cheap bread/pie runs may have come to an end, seems a new manager has decided to reduce stuff gradually now and not just dumping to 9p's and 15p's etc!!!
Did get a bit and only 90p spent tonight and £6.53 on the day, much lower than expected.
Week 16 total spends were only £16.11 and lowest weekly spend since week 5. Target for this week and next was £40, so almost £24 for next week, though not rigid if the right bargains are available.
I think being out helping with DIY'ing has helped this week along with 2 NSD's.
Need to get a few snacky things next week like crackers, nuts, pickle onions etc.
