I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

I'm in! I already done this a couple of months and still trying to do this right now. :j
These are the things that I normally buy whenever I go to the grocery:
chicken breast and thighs, ground pork and beef, pork chops, breakfast steaks, beef cuts
hash brown, bacon, ham and I do my own chicken salad or spreads even tuna! since I love breads.
not to mention a lot of veggies, condiments and tomato sauce (i love cooking with sauces...)
I sometimes forgets that I still have a lot of stock in the fridge and ends up rotten. I'll make sure it won't happen again! I also have a lot of pro bio-tic drinks and milk and cereals, oatmeal oh damn I do have a lot inside my fridge!!!:A work to live or live to work? :A0 -
i am gonna carry on and when (if) i have reduced my freezer so i can defrost it i will stop.life is like a loo roll. the nearer the end you get, the faster it goes.0

I wish I had some gammon jojo.
Have you tried Viking gammon??
Grill gammon steaks, and once cooked coat one side with honey, top with grated cheese and sliced tomato. Grill or bake until cheese has melted. I do this in a pyrex dish to save the jucies and pour them over the gammon. Other variations and you could leave out the honey.
Lovely jubbly.

This has been such a hit I have made it twice now. My son's girlfriend even asked for it as my son has been raving about it. Thanks so much Lynsey for telling me about it
Have only bought a few essentials and there is not a dent made in the freezer or cupboards yet but I have also noticed I have cash in my purse and my bank which is always a good thing.
Sunday dinner was waffles, chicken steaks and beans. Absolutely gorgeous. Used one of the steaks in a wrap with cottage cheese and salad for work for tomorrow and got loads of stuff for sandwiches all week.
I love this challenge :j0 -
Glad you enjoyed it jojo.
Quite a simple recipe, but gives gammon a little twist. I first had it in a pub restaurant and simply copied it.
TBH, I've not eaten it for a while - next time I get some cheap gammon though I will.
Just been messing about with food, made some more minestrone and had some wedgers.
Minestrone again tomorrow and maybe grapefruit segments for breakfast - found two large tins that need using up!!!!!!!
Trying not to spend much if possible as I want to max up on the half-price chocolate at Lidls this weekend. :j
Gaps are starting to appear, definite signs.
A mega thanks to all on the vouchers forum, maxxed up on non-food items this week (Lenor, Dettol stuff etc.) and loads of free tins of SPAM. :money:
Each Spam tin cuts into 10 nice slices (Spam, not the tin!!) and I use like Bacon Grill and use two slices in each muffin - nice sandwiches and virtually free. lol

Well I have fallen at the first hurdle having taken advantage of the Tesco and TCB delivery offer with JTD coupon.
This will be the last though as will have lots of sauces stocked up ready to be made into meals (hopefully based on reduced veg).Mortgage: [STRIKE]Jan 11 - £91830 [/STRIKE][STRIKE] Jan 12 - £89'199[/STRIKE] May 14 - £69'999 Car Loan: [STRIKE]Jan 11 - £3658 [/STRIKE] July 12 - £0! Tomorrow's tea I will be using up something from my freezer, bacon and something from my cupboard, butterbeans. You can use any tinned beans (not baked beans). For 2 people
Cut the bacon into small pieces and fry them in a pan or wok for 5 mins until crispy. Then add garlic, kale or cabbage, shredded finely and stir fry for 2 mins. I infact used a bag of shredded cabbage and leek that Sainsburys sells for 20p in the reduced
Then add 10-12 cherry tomatoes, halved, a tin of butter beans (drained) and some chilli flakes. Stir fry for 2 mins.
I did this on Thursday and its lovely, quick, filling and tasty.0 -

Hi everyone,
loving this thread, i got to page 10 b ut my eyes are getting tired lol.
Think i will have to join you guys! We have a fridge freezer which has 4 good size drawers and i have an upright with either 5 or 6 good size drawers that my dad has had forever and i got off him. I am quite obsessed with keeping my stocks good, as mentioned on a post way back at the beginning, we all have our reasons for keeping stocked up, mine being skint times i remember as a child and my mum going without and also hard times in the last few years pre MSE when its been a choice between eating and rent. Not so much the same worries now but a very very low income on which i don't like to/can't always spend more than £40-50 a week on shopping for me, dh and dd. Therefore i always raid the reduced aisles and know exactly when they do final reductions, i have had some fab bargains in the last twelve months or so since a huge Tesco Extra came to town! I also have extremely well stocked store cupboards, with all manner of tins/pulses/rice etc.
Anyhow we went to Cornwall last week for a little holiday and stayed with family, came back Saturday night/Sunday morning to a note left by FIL-Inlaws and my dad were sharing the dog sitting for us, note said FIL had noticed that when he put some milk in FF for our return that it was off and the plug had been switched off! Hence my very well stocked freezer contents had all defrosted:eek:. He thought it had only gone off that day, but nobody will own up to who accidentaly turned it off, but my dad noticed the red light that is normally on wasn't on mid week so he thought id asked them to turn it off, why would i do that! Anyhow have no idea when it got turned off so basically had to chuck everyting as i didnt know the situation and didnt fancy poisoning us! I mostly keep meat and fish in there too and had to throw a whole salmon id portioned up, other fish fillets three chickens, a huge gammon, mince etc etc amongst loads of other stuff. So upset i was!
Anyhow on the plus side it gave me the opportunity to swap everything over from the other freezer which needed defrosting desperately, so thats been done and has been switched on again.
So basically i still have a full freezer, although a drawer full is frozen veg as i prefer it as doesnt get wasted, and the rest is mostly what i call 'convienience' food i keep for dh and days i can't be bothered so within reason (i.e. not eating junk everyday) im going to get through that lot now slowly but surely and have made a menu plan accordingly for the next week for which i just need a couple of bits for. I finish work on the 7 aug for maternity leave so will have more time then to plan and shop better.
Did the normal weekly fresh shop yesterday and spent just over £40 so thats quite a lot but we had no fresh stuff in with being away.
Payday is Friday, so will see where we are up to and plan what shopping is needed accordingly, but i don't plan to go shopping again till Sunday at the earliest but am working so will have to see.
I do plan to get some meat to freeze but we have some good butchers who do trays of different things-chops, small joint, sausage, chicken portions etc for £10, get loads and lasts us easily 2-3 weeks so will get a couple of those and then just pick up any good whoopsies i see thats meat/fish till im happy with the contents again, but its not fit to burst like usual!
The meal plan for this week is not what id usually do and relies to heavily on processed stuff for my usual liking but will do cos im not going shopping again so freezer it is!
Mon-Spag bol, currently in sc and smells lovely nom nom

Wed-Fishfingers, chips and peas
Thurs-Pie, mash, veg
