I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

Kids have been down every chair and sofa and looked in every old handbag and under beds, in car and all over the house and have found about £6 - they are now trying to persuade the oldest one (only one old enough to drive) to take them to the little Tesco to buy some "afters" - the cake I made was not a hit - it was all crumbly - I don't know what I am going to do with it! Necessity is the mother of invention I suppose! I won't be getting anything tomorrow either so they will have to get enough to last them until the weekend!Jane

Right I'm back in with you girls. I overspent horribly last month so must get this tamed.
RECOVERING - what a shame about the cake. It had my mouth watering reading about it , too.
Merrywidow - same regarding bread mix. Have 3/4 of a 3.5kg stored on pantry shelf and just found another 11 bags stored in boxes.
I must stop squirreling stuff away but I just get anxious with the current climate and DH job being dodgy. Only have his wage coming in.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

If the kids got some cheap chocolate (or brought home a few pence in change) mix the cake with it and roll in balls to make truffles.
Make a pastry case, spread with jam and use the cake as a kind of crumble topping. Might need to bake the pastry blind so the topping doesn't get too dried out.
Some sort of trifle.
I managed to go out and buy chicken breasts yesterday - need to be more vigilant:rotfl: Tonights tea will be lasagne and wedges (lasagnes from freezer and pots from the garden)
I may have slimfast drinks today, a. because I am on a diet, and b. because I have about 3 dozen bottles of the readymix drinks in the store cupboard I bought at 99p a case.
I cleaned out one of my kitchen cupboards yesterday (I'm doing it all in stages) and moved my can store onto the shelf that had been wasted on mugs we never use. Discovered I have dozens of tins of chopped toms, but only 3 tins of branston beans - oh the tragedy:eek: I'm hoping that if I have all the food under my nose I will use it more effectively.
I have however run out of minced beef and OH is asking for chilli, so when I get paid (and by that I mean when DS gives me his board money tomorrow or Saturday) I'll get some of that. I may also need to get some cheese - so will look out for the best offer I can find.
Hope everyone is getting on well with the challenge, I'm certainly spending much less that I usually do.0 -

I have just had to go to Aldi because I couldn't stand the moaning any more. Wages went in today so was able to get a bit of stuff. Bought:
Tin of corned beef
bake at home baguettes x 10 (they're lovely and only 39p for 2)
hot dogs and hot dog rolls (kids are eating these as I type)
2 individual pizzas (ditto)
laundry liquid
washing up liquid
butter
Wiener Schnitzel (It's lovely but I don't buy it often) x 2
tomatoes
mixed peppers
potatoes
onions
cereal
sweetner - the Aldi sweetner is the same as Splenda and is only 99p for a big tub.
jam
peanut butter - I bought the cheaper 89p peanut butter as they sell 2 - same size but one is £1.49 (labelled extra crunchy) - I usually get the extra cruncy one but will see if there is any difference.
eggs
ice cream (now they have some afters!!)
sausages
bacon
chicken drumsticks
kitchen roll
loo rolls
fussili pasta
loaf
Quite a big shop and it came to just on £30. I am trying to keep spending for August down to £200 in total so will have to make it last!
I don't usually let the kids have hot dogs and pizza so they are absolutely delighted! The trade off is that they had to make it themselves and clean up afterwards!
Used up the last but one tin of tuna at lunch - that is so weird as I usually have about 10 tins of tuna in!! Mixed it with sweetcorn and made butties for kids and their friends and me. WE have loads of squash in so I have told them that I am not buying any fizzies until the squash is all drunk.
Still haven't done anything with last night's mistake cake - think I will make truffles as someone suggested - will get the Lidl 22p chocolate at weekend.Jane

Got some today and also some Philadephia 200g for 34p with the £1 off voucher.
Big dent in my budget today as I bought some milk from Sainsburys (another free jug-it) and some eggs and sweets from Home Bargains.

Good job there's only a few days left in the month to reach my target. :j

Not been into my cupboards and freezer much this week as last week I bought 2 lots of the Indian/Chinese meal deal - 4 mains and 2 sides for £10. I had a till spit voucher for £3 off £20, plus it was 15% discount. I bought sides such as chicken spring rolls, chicken tikka samosas etc. Put two in the freezer and eating them later on with some salad. So In effect, I bought 12 meals for £1.17. Salad, I normally can buy bags of salad leaves in the reduced at work for 20p, a few tomatoes and other reduced stuff will make my salad.
Having the Red Thai Chicken Curry tonight, Chicken Saag Masala tomorrow. Saturday, I'm having an Indian - first Indian meal out for 20 months.0
