I'm joining you all in this, I've been having a half hearted attempt over the last few weeks but I just seem to end up with more rather than less.
My temp job came to an end at the end of last week and as there is no guarantee that there will be any more in the near future I'm going to put a lot more effort into it. The main problem I have at the moment is that if I take out a pack of mince for example, two large lasagnes go back in:rotfl:
Anyway last night we had a corned beef hash and tonight I've got a chicken and broccolli mash topped pie on the go (got 3 x 2.5 kg bags of spuds reduced in Mr T's on Sat, so cooked a whole bag and will freeze the extra - see can't stop filling every space:D) I'm using up cooked chicken from the freezer and whoopsied broccolli.
I need to go through my dry stores though as there are a few things in there that will have to be used soon not to mention the number of thing I've fogotten I have. Will put that one on the list of jobs for tomorrow.
My lunch today is left over corned beef hash as DS didn't want to take it to work.0 -
i am pleased with myself. i have just finished a 3.5kg bag of bread flour. :j:jbut realised there was 2 more boxes of the stuff in the garage.
:o
life is like a loo roll. the nearer the end you get, the faster it goes.0 -
I am still trying to eat up everything in the freezer before I restock and this morning I spent a couple of hours batch cooking. From 1lb of minced steak I made two large pasta bolognaise bakes and a large cottage pie. I amde the cottage pie topping with Sainsburys Basics mashed potato mixed with some carrot and swede and it tasted lovely. I don't know how I would manage without Basics mash - it's only 20p and tastes so much nicer than any other instant mash I have tried. I use it to make potato cakes, gnocchi, shepherds pie, colcannon and other stuff too.
I have got some haddock which I got reduced in Sainsburys so I think I will make a fish pie using some prawns I have in the freezer - does anyone know if you can re-freeze the fish pie once you have cooked it?
cupboards are emptying out nicely too - still got loads of Branston Beans and Heinz soups but everything else is down to single tins left.
I will have to go shopping this weekend but I am going to make a meal planner and try and stick to a list - normally when I run down my stocks I go mad in the supermarket but this time I just can't afford it!

Don't forget to hit the backspace button after you've printed one to get the 2nd voucher.
Done quite well of late and bought very little.
Made shepherds pie yesterday, made three and we ate two, so one left for someone today.
Got a pack of diced chicken to get rid of, so maybe a curry (got a tin of Pataks) or perhaps a chicken past bake or stir-fry??
Chopped tomatoes are going down (frighteningly), so need some Del Monte ones for 25p per tin if possible.
Only spent 60p yesterday (bread from Morrisons) and 67p the day before - 2 x rhubarbs crumbles (twin packs), reduced to 19p per pack and a large pork pie for 29p from Sainsburys.
I'll be stocking up on the Lidl chocolate on Saturday though - only 22p per bar. :j

Thanks Lynsey - I now have two Spam vouchers:j
We had a very "use up" tea tonight - I made a meatloaf out of some frozen minced pork from goodness knows when out of the freezer, a packet of sausages, hm breadcrumbs, grated apple and beaten egg with sage and onion salt (have run out of onions). Mixed it all up and cooked it for about two hours in a 2lb loaf tin, and then had it with new potatoes and peas. It was surprisingly nice.
Kids were moaning on because I didn't have any "afters" in - nothing at all, not even yoghurts (they must have been desperate!). Anyway they are both out at the moment so I have just rustled up a chocolate almond traybake - am not sure what it will turn out like because I just made up the recipe! I used 3 eggs, 230g caster sugar, 175g self raising flour, quarter of a tub of creme fraiche (up two days ago but...), 55g cocoa powder, bit of oil and some cookeen, almond extract and flaked almonds. Just whipped it all together and then folded in a diced block of marzipan (250g one) which I bought ages ago in Home and Bargain for 10p. It's baking as I type, and if it turns out then it has made a huge traybake which I can cut up and freeze. For the topping I mixed icing sugar, creme fraiche, cocoa powder and a bit of Clover light, plus a drop or two of almond extract. Just whipped it all up and it looks like whipped cream.
I get paid on Friday, which is good because I have about 37p left! I still need to be extra careful with my money this coming month though so I will still be doing my storecupboard challenge!
Back to the meal planning now!Jane

It's milk chocolate with hazelnuts on offer at 22p per bar.
I make some muesli cakes, like crispie cakes but I use Lidl Goody's muesli istead of crispies. The hazelnuts should just blend in.
