blackandwhitebunny - well done on helping others, nice to see and I applaud you. :T
How many turkeys did you have??
BTW - which area of the country are you in??
Lynsey
Lyndsey I'm in the midlands near Derby.
The turkey stock up has become a boxing day ritualWe bought 12 this year, 5 for us, 3 for neighbour on right, 2 for neighbour across the road and 2 for PIL.
We go at around 2.30pm to Sainsbugs, they were mostly the small TTD ones which were around £6.50 down from £35 and we had some organic ones at £10 down from £50. There were loads and loads left. We BBQ them on our beer can chicken gadget and they're lovely. The funniest is that the pop up timers still work in the bbq:DVfM4meplse wrote: »Lynsey and b&wbunny - total respect for target discounts! Wish I could do the same but I eat so little that is processed I would starve to death if I relied on whoopsies! I guess it does make you more creative in the kitchen, though buying anything at full price must be agony.
.
I don't buy very much processed food at all, no ready meals etc and also don't buy cakes, biscuits etc. I also only buy British meat, free range chicken or preferably organic, also only organic milk (I am prepared to pay full price for this if necessary) and prefer organic cheese and butter.
I think I can do this as I have a big chest freezer and a full size upright freezer (this was left by the people we bought the house from 10 yrs ago and loooks like its been through the wars, we thought it might do a year or so but its still going strong), I can cook anything, we eat most things and I take the long view on ys buying. (by this I mean that things seem to come in cycles so lately I've had lots of TTD sausages, but last month I got quite a lot of organic chicken thigh/drumstick packs. I have two drawers in the upright freezer for 'things for this week' and every weekend I go through the chest freezer and transfer a slection for the next week into these drawers so I rotate things and we're not eating the same things all the time.)
I find the butchers and deli counters very good for markdowns as often others miss these, I often get cheese for £3 a kilo which I grate and freeze. most of our fruit and veg comes from the market on a big Saturday shop, but I often find luxury items for 25 - 35p in the evenings such as asparagus, physalis etc.
Another 'trick' I use is I have two bags in my freezer, one for smoked fish and one for non-smoked fish. I often get the last piece of some type from the fish counter for pennies as its too small for a full potion and they can't put the fresh out till they get rid of it, I freeze in the appropriate bag and when I have enough of a selection I make fishcakes or fish pie.
Oh I have gone on a bit....:oI was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly

Mine was a serious tip and it works...............apparently/allegedly.
blackandwhitebunny - nice part of the country, I had you further north!! lol
I'm not a huge turkey fan (of whole birds) and prefer just crowns/breast steaks/mince. They do take a lot of space though!!
Took out the Tesco cheese and leek sausages for "veggie day" and have with veg.
Been feeding the birds this morning, love watching them. lol

Should not have made banana muffins, way to moorish
Well my lovely boss decided to tell me I didn't need to come until 3pm for work...at 5:30am!! Why on earth he had to call at that time, I do not know & of course couldn't get back to sleep after that
Looking at a NSD today. Lasagne for dinner, muffins for breakfast, not sure about lunch yet.
Hope everyone has a good day.0 -
Lynsey - I haven't been to that part of France (or any part of France) for some years. The baie d'Arcachon is the area I think you saw. It is glorious and has a micro-climate. My dream is to move down to the south-west of France/north-east of Spain. I like people's attitude to life too. Mind you, Paris is particular, much like London. Not really comparable to the rest of the country.
Edwardia - I'd be interested to know what the combination with ham is like. I don't really eat much meat these days, perhaps twice a week, so it could be an idea.
blackandwhitebunny - £3/kilo for cheese?!! Blinking hell, I paid €16.50 for a kilo of mature cheddar (admittedly REALLY nice cheese) which would in fact cost more in the supermarket and be that dyed stuff with a rind they sell as cheddar here.
I'm going to try a variant of kirri's almond biscuit recipe I saw on This Morning, which was hazelnut and almond biscuits since I have the ingredients in anyway.
I can't work out how to quote or double-quote, anyone care to let me in (I did see it once, but have obviously gone braindead since). :cool:0 -
Morning all. Had a lie in today, didn't get out of bed until 8:30! Was having a few weird dreams, one of which was about space, must have been the light sabers I bought lol. Can't possibly have been due to the large amount of vino I had.
Ds is coming home at about 1ish. May pop into town later and get those tickets and go to the museums with him as I'm in the area, not been in those for a while. Looks nice outside, but it's pretty cold. brrrrr
Just received my cheap graze box, some nice things in it. Wouldn't pay full price though! Also had the rat food and treats delivered. Hope they appreciate the £30 I spent more than the £15 I spent yesterday. Should keep them going for the next few months.
No idea what I'm having for meals today. Something easy, maybe burgers, wedges and beans, or pasta. Just munching some Walkers Sensations Poppadoms, lime & coriander chutney flavour, they're really nice.
BE - hope your lo is feeling better soon, not easy watching kids suffer, although the calpol advert makes me laugh.
Sofiaki - I hate fennel, I can't stand anything with an aniseed taste but strangely I love dill.
Lyra - bet you'll sleep tonight! There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -

Just press the button that says quote at the end of the persons post or for mulit quotes then press the next button along with the quotation mark for each post you wish to quote and then the quote on your last post you wish to quote.

I did read a post where a newbie said they couldn't quote as they didn't have enough posts. Not sure if it was right or not though. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson.
