Jane - nice to see you back posting and back on track.
I wouldn't mind roasting a ham shank either, maybe try and get one soon - thanks for that.

Lynsey, ASDA has lots of deals on Quorn stuff which seem to be longer term, Lidl has couple of frozen Quorn offers this week too - put all the low carb ones on the Low Carb Supermarket Bargains thread and ASDA has a few more on top eg Quorn cottage pie, spag bog, sweet n sour.

Morrisons has some frozen Linda McCartney stuff on offer atm too.

I was a veggie for 11 years until I moved in with OH. It's certainly doable to cook great veggie food from scratch cheaply because there are so many great ingredients.

I've done my time eating as cheaply as poss, I assure you. We lived on Sainsbury's soya mince for years, and just can't touch it now !

well not doing too well on emptying the freezer , i keep filling it back up :o

but i have an excuse today
fell just right for reductions in tescos
called in for bread and milk
had to pay full price for bread ! but got milk reduced ;)
i also walked away with £115.03 worth of meat, there were 30 items
everything from joints of beef - steaks - chicken portions - mince - chops - stewing meat - sausages + more
    for £27.92 :T
so i have spent the last couple of hours rearrange the freezer
taking the meat out of the packaging and putting it in freezer bags ect
so a minimum of 30 meals less then a £1 each for the meat i am happy

OMG dawn1, what a result getting all that in one visit, fantastic news and I love reading stuff like that - you've just made my day even better.

Disgusting they charged you full price for the bread though!! :D

Edwardia - thanks for the veggie tips. I could probably get away with pasta meals and stir fry's and the odd pizza etc. Full breakfasts without the meat, quiches with salads and wedgers etc. Summer's coming, so should simplify things!

    Evening all.

Annoyed with myself as I didn't close a program when I shut the comp down, so it's been on all blinking day. Had a lovely dinner at mam's. She bought the black pepper and sea salt crusted pork loin again which is so damn lovely. I think I'm preferring it to lamb! Never thought I'd say that about a pork roast.

Had lo kebab for tea although there wasn't much lo. :( Spent about £10 today on drinks and snacks for the journeys, toilet rolls and milk. Need to buy some more things for lunch on the coach.

Not sure what I'm having for meals tomorrow. Will have a think. Busy day tomorrow with washing and housework. Half packed ds' stuff, bit more to do yet.

Not sure how old your lo is but we took a pack of Usb*rne activity cards on a long journey, they are wipe clean cards with a pen and the cards have different activities on like find odd one out, mazes, drawing faces etc. We have 100 things for little children to do on a journey. Have a look at the link http://www.usborne.com/catalogue/catalogue.aspx?cat=1&series=4

We also took a travel blow up pillow with us as they may want to nap on and way and a small blanket as sometimes it can get cold on the coach.

Thanks for the suggestion. Those cards look great, looked on Amazon and they're under £3 but I doubt they'll get here on time. A faster delivery bumps the price right up. :( Checked the net and Waterstones have them online, so might nip in and see if they have them in there, or WHSmith. I like the look of the garden and seaside ones too.

Do you not have a portable dvd player??
Have you not won one of them yet?? :D

Nope, not won one of those yet. They do have Disney vids on the coach playing but I think the screen is small and we're not far from the back. Just checked and I've a few films that I could transfer to my tablet... no idea how to do it tho lol.

Edwardia - ds is four, so not yet up to reading, some good ideas from you though. Will dig out his vtech camera.

Dawn - fab savings there. Been a while since I've seen some decent priced whoopsies!
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.
  • WOW what a weekend! Fab weather here so me & dd have been out all weekend, making dens in the wood, running along the beach, and courtesy of mum's purse we even went ice-skating :T
I'm learning though as all meals were from home, apart from lunch at mum's today.
Popped into Mr M's to get butter and managed to get a big bag of organic carrots and a cauli for 9p each, also a gigantic french bread stick (wider and much longer than usual lol) for 20p, it was £2!! I would never pay that for bread! that is now sliced and in the freezer, far too much bread in there now but will last ages :)

tonight roast chicken from freezer - kids added potato footballs, veggies and yorkshires and gravy followed by apple pie (fromt he freezer) with ice cream then ice lollies! We are having the chicken with a selection of frozen chinese snacks with fridge goodies and salad. Happy days.

Did spend today though on stocking up but only at bargain places like B&M and Home Bargains. So no big spend that wasn't justified! :)
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

I've been a lurker on this post for the past two months and have been inspired by many ideas. I hesitated to unlurk or delurk myself since I don't live in the UK and don't have access to the same shops as you.

However, just wanted to thank you for the ideas. I managed to cut down hugely in February and lasted 6 weeks without a shopping delivery. (I have mobility issues so rely on delivery and can't get to the shops ...)

Just wanted to let LipStick know that the Paris area will be unseasonably warm while she's over here, so make sure to pack lighter gear.

    Cheers.

    Morning all.
Easy day today as it's brothers shopping day, hope he doesn't want to go to Tesco!! Probably will as he still has some £10 off £30 vouchers left.

Toasted teacakes for breakfast and took out a prawn ring to have with 10p salad.
Not to sure of the rest.

Weather's not as bright yet as yesterday, but decent forecast.
    Hosepipe ban talk already. lol

Welcome Sofiaki, are you based in Bulgaria??
