Morning all.
Middy - good to see you back posting, you started a great fun thread here and some great help, recipes and tips have developed as well as money-saving.
Just realised I have just under £80 to last the month and not £70'ish as target for 1st quarter was £250 - £10 extra. lol
Just toast with coffee this morning as still helping neighbour and her son sort flat.
Grilled pork chops later rather than casserole and snacks during the day.
NSD planned and will only check Sainsbury's if I'm passing between 3pm-3.30pm.
Have fun, lovely and sunny here today with clear skies.

Morning all
Why I'm up at this time on a Sunday morning when I've no child to bounce on my head, I've no idea. Looks nice outside though. Just checked the forecast for Paris for when I'm away and it's looking good (except Sunday).
Would like to say today will be a nsd but since I've got milk for ds, and toilet roll to buy, it won't be. Has anyone tried that Nicky toilet roll from home bargains? Some people have said it's ok, but I don't trust cheap brands when it comes to loving your bum. Will draw £10 out the bank to keep me going for the week.
Hi there Middy - I looked the other day to see who had started the thread, welcome back to it.
Edwardia - That smell sounds disgusting! Hope it clears quickly!
Lynsey - £250 for the quarter is fab! There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -

1st quarter was the easy quarter with Xmas stuff left over and novelty value. A bit too obsessive - well more than a bit (lol), but most of the hard work has been done or will have been done by the end of the month.
2nd quarter and shackles off slightly and should help as we are going on holiday for 9 days/8 nights in the middle of May - not too sure if I told you.
TBH, I don't miss doing big shops and we eat pretty well and we still buy a little junk food!!
All the money saved can be spent on other things...........
.....................like dentists bill.
Nicky toilet rolls are very, very good quality. 9 rolls for £2 available on a regular basis. I buy them, but at the minute have a Triple Velvet mountain!!!
Give Nicky a try, it's NOT a cheap brand.

We braved the weather and got the barbeque out last night and used a packet of chicken thighs and drumsticks from the freezer and some sausages so another small hole. Must keep reminding myself that I don't have to fill it:oI was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly

Yeah I've not really missed doing a big shop, but my cupboards are looking a bit empty (well one shelf lol). Perhaps it looks empty because I've put my 24 tins of baked beans at the top! Was thinking of topping up early next month but hoping I can get through to May without doing a biggie.
Will give those Nicky a try then, was annoyed with myself last time I bought toilet roll. I usually buy shades but for some reason picked up an 18 pack of triple velvet. Paid the same amount as I'd pay for 24 rolls of shades.
Just realised, you going on two holidays? Talk about greedy, they're not coupons you know!
Need to think of games to play with ds while on the coach, might take guess who and print out sheets with animals on, maybe do a bingo style game. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. blackandwhitebunny I'm impressed, the nearest I've got to BBQ so far is thinking hmm must find an offer for Quorn southern style burgers..
major props to Middy for starting the thread
Lip_Stick had back door open this morning to air house through so it's gone now thankfully. Keeping ds amused on coach.. depends on age and I have no idea - pub cricket (er can't remember the rules but it's something to do with legs on pub signs = runs .. books/audiobooks/colouring books ..if you have a novelty shop near you then those games where you have to get silver balls in holes/other stuff..hangman.. cards if the coach has those drop down tables on the seat backs.. patience.. maybe go to charity shops see if you can find travel solitaire..disposable camera for ds to take photos on the coach..test his spelling..portable DVD player with headphones, from Argos..

Just climbing back on the wagon, after two weeks of spending too much - i got sent a 25% off code for Ocado and some of their meat had 33% off so it was too good a bargain to miss - i filled the freezer with lovely Waitrose meat! I now have plenty of meal basics in and so aim to spend the rest of the month eating out of the freezer and cupboards.
I bought a ham shank for the first time in ages the other day too, it was £1.90 and instead of boiling it I cooked it in a roaster bag in the oven. it was delicious and I got loads of meat off it plus a big bone for the dogs! I used half the ham in a big cheese and potato bake, and the other half I am using for sandwiches for the coming week. Tish morning I used up some whoopsied croissants which I filled with ham and cheese, - was more of a brunch really so I won't cook anything until tea time when I am making a chicken and ham pie with leftover chicken and some of the ham from the ham shank.
will pop up to Aldi later and get some of the super six.Jane

Not sure how old your lo is but we took a pack of Usb*rne activity cards on a long journey, they are wipe clean cards with a pen and the cards have different activities on like find odd one out, mazes, drawing faces etc. We have 100 things for little children to do on a journey. Have a look at the link http://www.usborne.com/catalogue/catalogue.aspx?cat=1&series=4
We also took a travel blow up pillow with us as they may want to nap on and way and a small blanket as sometimes it can get cold on the coach.

Do you not have a portable dvd player??
Have you not won one of them yet??
Lynsey you're a money saving guru !
Bless you! I do try hard (may show).
It's really going to be hard to break away from the "game" now though, knowing what can be achieved.
Problem being, I'll never be able just to eat what I want to a degree like yourself on my budget this year. Compromises have to be made and once this "marathon" is over I'll have to decide what to do next - maybe half and half??
I'm actually looking forward to being a "veggie" for 2 days per week starting 1st April and it's not and April Fools joke. lol
See if savings can be made there cooking from scratch??
Not many "whoopsies" on veggie stuff, just the odd bag of Quorn mince and the odd pack of veggie style sausages.
Spent 34p today in Sainsbury's on a pack of salad (10p), didn't look brownish and still fresh and 24p on a large cucumber.
Breadmaker on now on dough setting and make some rolls later.
