I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

9 days without shopping is very impressive Ilona, I could never manage that unless I was hospitalised! I like looking and hunting out bargains and virtually on a daily basis. More control this year, in fact very much more control! I have stopped buying lots of "silly" things I don't need, like reduced sandwiches late on etc.
I applaud your frugal living, but I could never ever manage that. You do show though what can be done.
Ilona, I meant to ask earlier, but do you add up the full price of your "whoopsies" to see how much you have saved?? I wish I had started to do that this year, see how much stuff my £1500 budget actually gets - hoping for approx £4000 worth of food at full value.
Just had toast for breakfast, snacks during the day and steak dinner later.
Brother rang up and wants some sausages from Lidl.
Need to pop out and get some, near a Tesco, so see if there are any 400g packets of ground coriander for 99p or £1.49.
Off to treat myself to a Fire Bowl from Home Bargains, reward for being frugal.

Catch up later.

morning all, woke up this morning and decided to drag out the wii for exercise to try and lose weight. then realised i didnt really have anything low fat in to take to work tonight that would defrost in time. have just made a lentil bolognese, its fantastic and very low fat. so that has used up some of the dried lentils, sad looking celery and carrots and some peppers & mushrooms from the freezer. it has also used up my last two tins of tom's.i will have to pop into asd@ on way home tonight to get some more.Grocery Challenge 24th Feb-28 Dec 2012 £2000/£1404

Hi Lyra.. welcome to the thread. Hopefully you'll get some good tips and not copy the majorities behaviour of being addicted to whoopsies.
Are you moving to a place on your own or with someone?
Thank you
I'll be living with flatmates but on my own, if you see what I mean, so again, no need to have enough to fed an army
I'm going away over Easter, so am determined to run my food stock, right down.
Today, crumpet with jam for breakfast (have loads of whoopsied crumpets in the freezer). Goats cheese & red onion tart for lunch, again a whoopsie & from the freezer. I'm out tonight, so nothing from the stocks for dinner, but if I'm peckish, when I get back, hopefully I'll want weetabix & can start on the large box of those I have :rotfl:0 -
Hey all
I have been doing really well since my last post, ate some apples I was given another ww meal from freezer, a ken home chill beef ready meal and the last of the spring rolls, prawns toast and won tons, will have a ww ready meal today for lunch the last bit of pork joint is just defrosting and i will put it In. the slow cooker to make a pulled pork, will also use up the whoopsied baby potatoes for a roast in herbs, have a partial tin Of sweetcorn that I opened to make my garlic mayo coleslaw so will have that instead of corn on cob, get some veggies steamed from freezer, went shopping yest, only got junk and the eggs and butter I needed for a pack of Mary berry cupcakes I have in cupboard taking up space, I will freeze most of them and ice a few for snacks during the week, that will get rid of that, since I now have a lot of freezer space, I'm now talking space in every drawer, will need to do a stock up out of next months budget, but until then i can eat really well, including taking in stuff for lunches, prob have about another 3 weeks worth of food, need to use up the salmon tr.immings I bought ages ago, may make a pasta in Tom sauce , or I do have some campbells chicken soup dunno if that could workLose 28lb 3/28lb

Hi everyone. I wish I could say that I've been eating from the freezer and cupboards but over the last few days I have had takeaway and impulse bought all kinds of stuff. PLUS I forgot to cancel the chocolate tasting club thing after the £1.95 box and got stung for a box for £18.95:eek: anyway today I was determined to get back to it and have stuck to my guns with the kids and wouldn't give in to chippy lunch. Made minute steak sandwiches with minute steaks out of the freezer and they were lovely!! I had come l/o cauliflower cheese bake as there wasn't enough of the minute steak for me.
For those of you on WW or SW - I was a failed SW and WW member for years and then about a year ago I decided I would eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted but I would only ever eat off a side plate! It is amazing how quickly you get used to small portions and I have lost just over 7.5 stone in the year. It isn't easy at first, but the idea that you can have WHATEVER you want worked for me as otherwise if I had too many points or syns I would go into kamikazee mode and stuff myself because I would be of the "start tomorrow" mentality!
Tea tonight is chicken thighs, jacket potato and salad for kids and egg and cress salad for me - I have eggs and two tubs of cress that need using and I love egg and cress so thought I would have that on a sandwich. Yoghurts for afters.
My sister and friends are coming for tea tomorrow so I have defrosted some braising steak and will make some kind of a stew/casserole - I have loads of carrots, onions, parsnips, celery etc - might even do a pie.
Might do an online shop this week. You don't get the whoopsies but it does stop the impulse buying IYKWIM.
BTW for anyone who buys popping corn - the kernels are currently £1.59 in most supermarkets but for some reason are 59p in Sainsburys - they have been for ages - the brand is Cypressa. We love hm popcorn with a bit of salt and sweetner on!
Off to look for a pie recipe!Jane

Afternoon all,
Breakfast - hm bread toasted and marmite
Mid am - had bit of hm choc cake.. but did have visitor over!
Lunch - only just had it! hm roll, cheese and last pack of crisps from when I was working. Followed by a choc biscuit
Just put some allotment leeks I froze a few months ago on to cook, thought I'd make another batch of pasties - now the leeks are in the frying pan cooking I've just remembered I don't quite have enough butter for the pastry, I picked it up in Morries and put it back yesterday as they didn't have organic unsalted.. so will have to substitute a bit of vegan spread in with it instead, hope it works. Might have one when cooked for a late dinner/snack.
My aim is to get all the veg I have cooked into meals so they are quick to heat up, while I have the time ie not working. Clears my kitchen up and I'm less likely to buy odd bits when I have some 'ready meals' in the freezer.
However much I eat I still seem to have approx 90 meals on my list!0 -

You've done marvelously well!
I remember you from some years back on the OS weightloss thread when I was losing weight with Mrs McCawber and co.
We were using the same method as you outline above and lost loads but sadly both of us plonked it back on again.
I've since read MrsM's thought about it on another forum and think we both agreed our downfall was that we weren't eating as healthily as we could, just OS, homemade things.
Think SW helps me stay on the right path with that but attempting to join the two methods together this time round.
Must get eggs. And loo rolls. And maybe lidls sausgaes cos those leeks and cider ones sound gorgeous!AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

Only me again, had the ww meal for lunch, then had a muffin with butter from freezer the pork in sc is nearly done, went a bit ott on the potatoes, put onions, chopped garlic, mixed herbs, olive oil and had some time on the turn, so put those in and tossed with salt and pepper, will put into roast shortly should be yummy, enough potatoes for another portion I'd 2 and plenty of pork to make a few meals too.Lose 28lb 3/28lb
