I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

Welcome to all joining the challenge.
butterfly23, not too sure of your Morries, but sometimes in mine they reduce fish late on, very late on from 9p/19p sometimes. Usually a bit more, but the 9p stuff (pouting etc.) does OK for fishcakes. It's the packed stuff already priced and not from the fish counter. Sainsbury's (my local) always has fresh salmon, again pre-packed stuff on offer.
Interesting what you say about old cookery books and I agree. I normally keep things basic and traditional, less expensive as you say.
Catch up later.

I just had jam on toast, not that hungry. Hubby had the poached eggs on toast with beans.
Popped a few potatoes in the slow cooker, rubbed in olive oil and wrapped in foil - that's for tonight.
On high for 1 1/2 hours and low for the rest - see how they go.
Slow cooker used twice in a week, third time in all and after sitting in a cupboard for over a year!!
It would probably still be in the cupboard if it wasn't for you lot. lol

I didn't know you could bake potatoes in one, let us know how they turn out!vintage43:A

hi everyone - welcome to newbies - you will find loads of tips and ideas on this thread! DD2 is off school today - she isn't too sick by the look of her but.......
i made split pea soup for lunch but it has been cooking for over 5 hours and the split peas are still not soft! the peas were new(only bought last week) and I didn't add any salt so I am not sure if they will ever soften. If they don't then it will have to be chucked.
Lunch was stilton and brocolli soup from the local buttie shop, but it wasn't nice so I have just had a slice of bread and butter. Dinner tonight will be chicken stir fry for DD2 and chilli out of the freezer for DD3 and I.
I got some of the pork left from Christmas out of the freezer for lunchboxes the rest of the week. I also made a chocolate loaf cake from the ingredients that DD2 should have taken in to food tech today - I had weighed them all out so it was a shame not to use them up! Might go and see if there are any good reductions in Mr T later!Jane

I bought lunch today....Was in such a rush!
Dinner will be fish and chips or something similarAnnual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

I know the point of this thread is to empty the freezer, but I can't resist a glitch, Tesc0s are selling weight watchers frozen meals for £1.75 each but if you buy 4 then it comes up as 4 meals for £5.00 but actually scans at £2.00 in total, do them through the self scan, that@s only 50p each, I know they are not the best but are handy to have in.vintage43:A

Could you use a stick blender to puree them down?? My split peas are always old but I only ever puree them so not sure how soft they get in cooking but only ever have them on for an hour ish. I do add oil though but only eat them in a dip not soup hence the oil.I'll probably just have my veggie lasanga for tea as I don't have prawns or chicken pieces to make nasi goreng.
Hey you're a veggie aren't you, so hoping you might know if anywhere stocks Quorn goats cheese and cranberry escalopes? They're to die for, and I can't get them anywhere. Think they might have stopped making them.
I'm sure I have a recipe for veggie nasi goreng so you could do it without maybe - I had it in Malaysia and sure that didn't have meat in either, I hope  although maybe they served 2 versions... we had it for breakfast in the hotel!
I haven't seen those for a while, might be worth emailing Quorn, they are very helpful as I emailed them when I couldn't find the lime dippers, sadly they discontinued them
Lynsey, I love the M&S outlet stores, just lucky I don't live near one!!
Butterfly, hadn't thought of that re the older cookery books but makes sense, I do get put off my long, expensive lists of ingredients.
Sb - love the pic, love seeing what people make.
Maybe we should have freezer/stores photos to see how bad everyone is
Welcome everyone else
TODAY:
Breakfast - ciabatta toast and marmite (nearly used the bread!)
Lunch - pancakes with lemon and sugar (finished 1 lemon)
Dinner - not sure yet - have some cavolo nero I might use, if I can find a bubble & squeak cake recipe I thought I had... with possibly some freezer veggie sausages.0 -
OOer I "popped" into Asda and they had lots of meat reduced as well as a couple of the curry in small tims - have had to resort to old tucked away freezer which is an overflow for emergencies. Then I used a portion of the stewing steak in slo cooker, used up end of cel. bunch/pointy red pepper plus a coupl of onions, some carrots sticks frozen during the week and tin of toms and half bottle beer (bought for cooking beef cass pre Xmas) so have a full pot of beef casserole to start on tomorrow (more for overflow freezer) at least one serving soup. Considering I went out for lunch today......... On the good side, if this counts, have just watched the last of my "stored" sky+ christmas 24 films so they are now cleared, will that count Lynsey ???
Hope the potatoes turned out good, have not tried that, will cook half the pink fir potatoes for use with cass.

Hi ladies - I have got sausage casserole in the oven, using the sausage I had defrosted, there is way too much for me and my oh, the kids won't eat sausage casserole. My younger boy who is 11 has had sausage for his tea though. Some will get frozen if I can find room in my freezer.:xmastree::xmassign::rudolf::xmastree:0

vintage43, just got back home and the potatoes are very soft, still wrapped in foil. I didn't know you could do potatoes either - tips from all the clever members on here. Not having until later though, with some of the apple pie and custard.
Kirri, quite a bit of stuff reduced in the M&S outlet shop, but only bought a pair of shorts for £3 and some tea-lights.
NSD yet, but out for cheese later and check Sainsbury's. If no cheese in stock (£2 offer stuff) or bargains, then another NSD - I'm not desparate and Lidl have cheap cheese this weekend.
