Sorry to hear the sad news bramble1.
Why have you started the annual budget early (before tomorrow)?? Is is something to do with pay dates??

Hoping to pick up a few bargains today if possible, but not desparate!! Then the fun begins. lol
I need to reduce my fish stash and bought some packets of Schwartz for Fish Parsley and Chive Sauce for Cod Mix for only 10p per packet yesterday from Sainsbury's - give a little change. Got lots of sausages to get through and also several pizzas.
I've got a pretty good selection really, so meals won't be bland. Only really need bread, milk, fruit and veg for January, so any "whoopsies" picked up would be a bonus.

  • Hi all
mind if i join in? I am officially broke till february. I've stock checked my freezer, done a menu for the month and i think i can make it to the end of the month without shopping for myself. My problem is i have to go shopping for work and cant resist picking things up for myself. Its gonna take alot of self control but im hoping to not touch my saving account. Hope i do it. Good luck everyone

Welcome mucky_moo (great name) and good luck.
I think self-control will be the "key" for any challenge, I like to buy as many bargains as possible. From tomorrow though, I'll try and try hard to sort the "wheat form the chaff" - cheap quality items is my main aim, not as many cheap, cheap items - unless no choice of course!!

    Hello everybody,

Nothing much to report; just another big soup recipe made from various veg that might have ended up in the freezer. Handy as a low calorie starter for meals and still a lot of servings left. Other than that, very determined for next year regarding "using things up".

Well spent about £7 in the shops, will add up receipts later. There were reduced bits so got a loaf of WW bread and some WW carrot cake slices for my lunches next week. I WILL not going shopping again until saturday. We've got everything in we could possibly need. There is bread and milk in the freezer so no excuses. I need to get some NSDs under my belt!

Had toast for lunch, then found some venison sausage rolls in the fridge that had to come out the freezer yesterday when it broke temporarily. They will need to be eaten, so will have a couple if i get peckish later. They're the little ones, will go to the dog if not eaten by the end of tomorrow.

I've planned vaguely meals for the week ahead. I think we've got enough for 2 weeks atleast. I was planning on cooking a ham and doing a little buffet tomorrow, we shall see what happens. I must admit i'm looking forward to going back to work and being in my normal life routine!!

  • Hello all!

Am taking on the eating out of the freezer challenge because my freezer is jam packed and our food bill still too much

I did a little 'mental' inventory of it yesterday and we have one drawer full of beef mince (OH is a manager at a supermarket and gets lots of reduced stuff at the end of the night and got 500g packs of mince for 68p each which I divide up into 100g portions in freezer bags for 'per person' portions) and we also have a couple of pork chops, chicken breasts, 4 or 5 beef roasting joints (again, from OH's work - big joints cut in half as it's just us 2 and the baby), a big chicken, sausages, two giant turkey legs from the Christmas turkey (my dad cut the legs off and just cooked the crown), some frozen turkey stew which I made from leftovers given to me a few days ago, a frozen portion of beef stew from a couple of weeks ago, 2 big home made steak pies, and lots of 'quick' bits like oven chips, chicken nuggets, garlic bread sticks, bread rolls.

We're entertaining tonight and are all having takeaway but I'm getting one of the beef joints out for tomorrow's dinner. Yum!

    Thought so.
Do yourself a favour and start from scratch from tomorrow - I feel like you have a disadvantage.
    Jan 1st 2012 - 31st Dec 2012 inclusive.
Only bought a few things since Xmas, got 2 packs of Lidl bacon and some onions, gammon steaks and bits and bobs. Popping out to Sainsbury's later (just for a look and put lottery on), but will only buy severely reduced items, if anything decent.
Then it's a no spend day until Monday, I'll need milk then and some veg - possibly a small Aldi shop to start the year, or Lidl.
Starting on the sausages tonight, with roast veg and blue cheese sauce. Tomorrow, main meal is prawn stir fry.

I might do that.....but my challenge will end before Dec 31st as I will get paid before then in Dec :)

Made some banana and walnut muffins with some bananas that were over ripe and half a bag of walnuts that have been in the cupboard for goodness knows how long. Nice filling breakfast on the go for OH and I. Will possibly freeze some, will see what OH's schedule is like next week.

come on here to get my lemon mousse recipe and got side tracked..as usual! Will take some time to go through the lidl offers later and see what is worth getting after checking what we've got in the stocks. I'm hoping all we will need next week is lunch meats. We'll be in Scotland for 2/3 days for the funeral, so will be a shorter week for us.
