Hi all! It is seriously cold and pouring down here today! NSD today:j
Made sausage bacon and egg for lunch which was nice as we haven't had it for ages, and I have got some filo pastry out of the freezer to make hm samosas for tea, using up some leftover turkey, peas and onions.
Has anyone got an Actifry? DD1 is constantly going on about us getting one but I am unconvinced. I would be interested to hear if anyone has one, and if it gets used regularly.
I am also really really tempted to buy a halogen oven from Ideal World - I need to stop watching shopping telly!!Jane

Ooh going to try this myself. Uses up a good amount of semolina plus I have some oranges past their best and I like cakes that are not too expensive to make ie only 2 eggs and 4oz of stuff is perfect.
Bit confused with the prep of the oranges though, recipes makes it look like you chuck the oranges in the processor whole but I'd have thought zest them then peel and process the inside?

Not sure whether peeps on here might turn their nose up at it or not but I discovered quite a good way of using up a leftover food.
I recently found myself with lots of leftover home made houmos.
I've been getting batches of the houmos out of the freezer and making burgers out of it.
What I do is I first of all mix a teaspoon of yeast extract (I use marmite) into the houmos and then I mix it with flour and shape it into burgers,I've been using a gluten free flour but you can also use wheat flour, then I fry it.
The burgers are really,really yummy!
Mind you, houmous made at home from scratch is a different deal to the shop bought stuff.
I cannot report how it works using shop bought houmos but if you find yourself with some you might want to try it.
My taste buds are quite 'veganized' so I am used to munching on lentils so I don't know if others will agree these taste good0 -

My aunt had one and said it was really good but I think there were issues with early ones catching fire iirc?roseanglaise wrote: »Yes looks like you use the whole orange. Haven't done this recipe myself but have seen other recipes that do this. Think it's a Middle Eastern thing a la Claudia Roden. Good luck, might try it myself. Regards

Ok, sounds weird but makes sense I guess in that style of cooking (I have a Claudia Roden book). Will give it a go once I've eaten the orange syrup cakesTofu_eater wrote: »Not sure whether peeps on here might turn their nose up at it or not but I discovered quite a good way of using up a leftover food.

Never thought of that but sounds interesting!
Hope you stick around, could do with more vegan ideas
Yesterday - not much food used as was out most of the day and had a meal out. Had some free All Bran before I went.
Today - more free All Bran, then jacket potatoes and cheese for lunch and dinner was more of the couscous/quinoa tabbouleh with griddled aubergine marinated in chilli, cumin, garlic and mint, more griddled haloumi and finished off an onion. Used lots of fresh herbs.0 -
Today nothing in or out of freezers as we had dinner made up yesterday.
