^ have another go on the all bran tomorrow, I may have won a few ;)

Got my Fruyo coupon today (though I don't like yoghurts with bits in) - also won a voucher for a £10 spend in a local shop that's near a big Waitrose so I may go and get the yoghurt and try for the teabags again when I go to spend that.

Lunch today was sourdough, cheddar and garlic mushrooms.

Dinner - pasta with rocket, stilton, cherry tomatoes and peppers.

Made some pepperonata in the slow cooker today, looks and smells delish! Just letting it cool, to portion up for the fridge and freezer. Cost about £2.60 for four portions, I reckon.

Freezer (well, fridge-freezer compartment) is starting to get full again, but it's only small and a lot of it is bread products, but will probably have to make soom room in it before any more cookfests:).

Out tonight for a meal with family and friends, a belated birthday celebration. Enjoy your Bank Holiday weekend (lovely and sunny here).

    Jelly, What is Pepperonata?
Have the pizza sauce in SC smells yummy

    Slow Cooker Peperonata
(Italian Pepper Stew...think it's Sicilian in origin, and proper 'peasant food', very simple and cheap to make)
    Peperonata.jpg
    4 tbsp olive oil
    2 garlic cloves, chopped small
2 onions, thinly sliced (I used red onions)
2 red peppers, 2 yellow peppers, cut into 2cm wide strips
    400g large can chopped tomatoes
    salt and pepper, to taste
In a large pan, heat the oil, add the onions and garlic, and cook until softened and just browned. Add the peppers and tomatoes, stir and bring to the boil. Transfer to the slow cooker, pressing down the peppers to level the surface, cover and cook on Low for 7-10 hours, stirring every couple of hours if possible, until the peppers are meltingly soft.
Works as a starter, or with pasta or rice as a main meal. For more protein, you can add stir-fried tofu or quorn (or meat, of course).
Can also be done on the hob, on a very low heat, or in the oven in a covered ovenproof dish on the lowest oven setting; again, cook until the peppers are nice and soft.
    :)

Here is Nigel Slater and Jamie Oliver's version of the same recipe, and one from Waitrose

Nothing in or out of Freezer today as out all day on picnic we had a lovely day very tired as had 4 hours sleep last night and up early to prep and go to mass before picnic.

I did get a bottle 1 litre pimms to try as half price £10 instead of £20...I went in looking for oil and came out with that:-)

Lovely sunny day, first time I've had shorts on this year.

    Breakfast - toast and cheese

Lunch - last of the sourdough with cheese followed by a yoghurt

Dinner - started using up the quinoa finally, mixed it 50:50 with couscous and made another tabbouleh and it worked very well like that - added in chives, flat leaf parsley, lemon zest, wet garlic, onion, peppers, baharat spice. Griddled some aubergine and haloumi to go with it. Was very good!

Also made 2 orange syrup cakes from a Mary Berry recipe, just had a piece and is very nice, first time I've made them and will definitely do them again.

So nothing out the freezer but at least I've made a start on the quinoa.
  • Hope you are all enjoying the Bank Holiday weekend!

I have been trying to use up stuff, but gave in and went to the supermarket yesterday, and then went to Farmfoods today for frozen apples and pitta breads.

Scrambled eggs on toast for Breakfast, sausages (on their own - didn't want much!) and made tuna salads and pitta bread for tea. When I was out today I went to Costa and got us each a cooler - cost £10 for three drinks:eek: - they were really nice but I still won't be buying them again for a long time!

Farmfoods had loads of good bargains but I only bought frozen bramleys (3 big packs for £2), Birds Eye fish fillet burgers, pittas (great value at two packs of large sized pittas for £1), Oven chips and loo rolls.

Trying to stick to a Weight Watchers diet but struggling!

How is everyone getting on with their building work/redecorations?

Hi everyone. Been trawling through this thread over the last couple of days in between gardening and going to do this kind of thing as our freezer is looking a bit barren yet we have a big storecupboard going on with stuff from Approved food.

Tomorrow is going to be a big shop for lots of meat from the local butchers and other bits and bobs. Hopefully see what deals Tesco has on too!!

Some decent tips in this thread for cooking ideas so thanks to all

Morning all. Rubbish day today. Bucketing it down.

Just had an early lunch of jacket pot with cottage cheese. Tea will have to be out as ds is getting a photo taken with his step-cousins, I think they are lol. Then it's beavers which he'll be officially invested into (if he remembers his promise, which I'm not too confident about lol).

Still need to make a rhubarb crumble, hope to do that this evening.

    Freezer movements are:
Out - 2 Moroccan style beef burgers, 1 jacket potato
    In - nothing!

    Afternoon all.

Been out and about in the sun, lovely weather.

Went to Waitrose and got reduced raspberries, spinach, broccoli, potatoes in butter, fruit shaker, asparagus tips in butter, some popcorn no meat, but loads of healthy stuff.

Made lamb yesterday with rice, spinach and mixed veg, gonna have lamb today with potatoes, asparagus, spinach and broccoli. Lunch I had out and breakfast was a cinnamon bagel from the freezer.

There is now space in both drawers, more than I would like, need a fill up, off to Costco on friday, perfect timing.
