Morning all.. had a bad night's sleep last night. Mainly due to ds getting up 4 times during the night and climbing in my bed! Wouldn't mind but he's got a cold so is making a right noise, plus he hogs the bed! Thought I'd stopped him doing that.

Still not got a clue what I'm having for meals. Probably soup for dinner. Wondering what I can do for tea. Should have decided last night and got something out to defrost. May do beefburger, chips and beans, or risotto, that needs using up. Hmm risotto it is then.

Sofiaki - That's great news. At least I don't have to bulk out my luggage with big thick jumpers etc! And you don't have to have the same shops to make a contribution to the thread. I'm sure you'll find recipe ideas and inspiration, plus it's good to hear of the savings made where ever someone shops, so welcome to the thread. :)
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Thanks for your welcome Lynsey and LipStick.

I'm actually in Paris. I've been astounded by the prices in the UK and wondering how come shopping here can be so expensive. When I need to do a shop I scan the various supermarkets looking out for their specials. Unfortunately BOGOFs are quite new and even when they're available the stock isn't there ...

However, onward and upward. I finally made gigantes plaki (big baked beans), a Greek dish, out of butter beans and tomatoes acquired from Approved Foods last year. All thanks to the inspiration from this thread. It was nice, cheap, but I think the dish multiplied overnight in the fridge. Dried beans certainly go a long way!!!

    Have a nice day. :D

P.S. LipStick, the evenings are still a bit chilly for now. 21°C forecast for Friday, then it'll dip a little. It's still 6 or 7°C higher than average.

And we whitter about our prices! Is there that much difference to ordinary prices or is it just the reduced items that we get cheaper here?

Well done on making your huge vat of plakas. :D

Must update my sig later but got some good bargains this weekend.
Have just enjoyed bacon, egg, mushrooms and tomato, complete with a slice of granary bread for brekkies. Phew!

The mushrooms were the huge type and I got a really big bag - like a small carrier - for 50p from MrT yesterday.

Also got a bag of stir fried veg that I shall use for tea tonight.

Did very well with my coupons this weekend.
Now have enough toothpaste for 2012. :p
Not doing badly on the Lenor and shampoos either. ;)

Managed to use my Prcdrop coupons to get 2x 4 pks Intensely creamy yogs for £1.14 and my Catherdral cheese of bogof for £2.98.
    Very happy. :D

For a beginner I'm really excited with what I've had so far through a little 'clipping.'
Eager to learn more as I know I'm missing tricks others are doing.

Even managed a treat of Comfort ironing water - only 27p with my £1 coupon in Asda, and my Aunty bessie yorkies for 50p with coupon. :T

Freezer isn't going down much. Well was but I hit the bread section yesterday afternoon and now have a lovely assortment in there. :p

Thanks Sofiaki, will make sure ds has a jumper, and taking a winter coat each for if we're still out and about in the evening as the park closes at 10pm on the weekend. Think we'll be in bed way before then tho! lol

lol at your beans. Haven't used dried beans before. Sounds a nice dish though. I've been meaning to cook Turkish red lentil balls. Had them on holiday. First time we had them they had chilli in and were really hot, second time they didn't have it in, still lovely though with lemon juice on and wrapped in a lettuce leaf.

Right, better do a bit more packing. Realised as I walking home from the school run that I'm taking too many suitcases lol.

  • Weather here yesterday was lovely so BBQ was out again. Took ys chicken out of freezer and had beercan chicken but used cider instead, very lush:D PIL joined us and it wasn't the world's biggest chicken so I made chorizo and cheddar mini scones and some of the co-op slamon on crackers to start. I thought I had made way too many scones, about 24 1 inch diameter ones but they were gorgeous and we polished them all off. We lit the chimenia and sat outside till the chicken was cooked and it was easily warm enough as long as you had a thick fleece.:D
I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly :D

tonight is an easy one - not feeling much up to cooking so having frozen breaded plaice topped with cheese and prawn mornay with either salad or pasta and peas. Kids are having pasta with sliced smoked sausage, veggies and stir in sauce. All good stuff and again using bargains and supplies I already have.

The plaice was from a deal I got a couple of weeks back at bargain foods (a bit like cool trader freezer shop) where I had two bags each with five huge topped plaice in for £5. Major bargain!
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

  • Morning all, I'm feeling unusually fresh for a Monday morning, I think it's down to all the exercise over the weekend!!

Toast & marmite for breakfast, dd had cereal
think I'll just have the last hot cross bun with some fruit for lunch
Dinner will be sausages, with some of my 9p carrots and cauli, have half a swede that needs using up so that also, yorkshires and gravy. will add a portion of mash for dd also.

I've got so much baking ingrediants in atm so think i'll make some muffins in abit, back to work 2moro. I will never take a week off again whilst dd is in school, it's soooo boring without her lol

    Have a great day all

Things are generally more expensive here, even at the market. Reductions aren't fantastic, apart from the odd BOGOFs that are beginning to appear though, as I mentioned, often unavailable when internet ordering. Examples: cucumber - €1.35 (over a quid), 6 organic eggs - €2.13-€2.56 ...

This is why I've turned to things like Approved Food to get hold of some basic staples cheaply. Even though p&p is £15 for France, the delivery arrives two days later, and there's enough for a small army. I believe shops like this exist here too but not by internet.

That recipe looks delish. Yeh, deffo take something warm for the evenings. It's beautiful blue skies today and is warm enough to have the windows open. Haven't ventured out into the fresh air today.

Stressed! Hate packing, always think I can get away with taking a small suitcase then end up realising 'no chance'!

Sat eating lentil casserole from the freezer with a cuppa before I get back to sorting things out and doing the washing. Wouldn't mind but I'll only be at the park for 3 days! Will print out some docs while I'm sat here.

Need to buy some travel sickness pills and a lemon today.
