I am going to the doctors tomorrow re alcohol and also hopefully something for stress as had about 6 hours kip since Friday and 6 slices of toast.

Has anyone else got an opinion on whether the gp has to contact social services as my child resides with me and his mum. I am keen to find this out as will have to approach this with my partner before they coming calling to check eveything is ok - which it is.

As Sar El says, SS will not be involved or interested unless there is a child at risk. Don't worry about that.

It's a good thing you are going to the doctors because I was starting to go from 'poor bloke, let's help him' to 'he's a sap, he deserves what he will get'.

Like Emzi, I'm the person that does the sacking. One thing we are not interested in is a load of excuses and introspection. We want to hear
    • Regret
    • Apologies
    • Acknowledgement of actions, whether directly caused through carelessness or wilfulness
    • Reference to long previously unblemished service
    • Root cause of actions acknowledged and identified (drinking and stress)
    • Action plan for dealing with root cause (have realised that I cannot cope myself with the drinking and stress although I thought that I could, and have sought medical advice to assist me)
    • Commitment to employer and job
I just heard 2 GMs yesterday where normally I'd sack, (not drink)...all the above were in place. I didn't want to sack for a number of reasons...result was a final written because they made that easy for me. Make it easy for them to keep you to get your best chance of a favourable outcome.

Hi all just an update and a couple of more questions for those that have experienced theses things or do them in their day job. I've been to the doctors and have a referral regarding my alcohol and lots of information too.

Having been thinking more about my case i have noted that my manager has been taking more interest than usual in my work, could it be possible that they have been monitoring for example my productivity aswell as my timekeeping issues in an attempt to get fitter reasons to manage me out. My work does scrub up however and there was no mention of this at the meeting when I was suspended.

My union rep is of the opinion that the charges will be for what was discussed at the meeting but given the strange goings on lately with my manager could there be more to this. Of course I could just be over analysing.

    glad you have been

most unlikely extra random things will be thrown up at the meeting; if I have an employee I notice going off the rails I do monitor them more closely but not to ctach them out - so I can point out there and then if their work is not up to scratch, and get them back on the right track. That's just me, but I'd say paranoid :-)

Hi all I've spoken to my union rep this morning and he said that he is aware of many people who do what I think it will be that I'm charged with (still waiting for anything to come in the post) - does this matter at all or is it all irrelevant insofar as they have not been identified etc.

    Thanks

Probably not - because every situation is different and it depends on the situation. And since you don't know who they are, what their situation was, and frankly, whether they got sacked or not....

They are still there doing it everyday according to the union rep, but then I guess he would have said specifically whether this would help so maybe I'm clutching at straws on this point.

So the union rep is going to turn them in so that they can be sacked? Thought not.

Fair point I know people too but obviously I won't be turning them in either. I fear becoming the one that gets it then they will gently remind people of the do's and dont's.
