Suspended from work please help

Hi all,
I have been suspended from work and would appreciate some advice.
Basically I was called to a meeting and asked to explain some actions in the presence of my manager and a note taker. I was asked whether I objected to the note taker being present which I said I did not.
At the end of the meeting I was suspended, my questions focus around I did not fully divulge all of my explinations as I was uncomfortable with the people preset in the meeting although I accept I said I wasn't but the truth was there are complications with those people who I did not want to essentially bare my sole to. I am worried that my employers may look at forums such as this so appreciate this may be a bit sketchy.
I feel I have a very good case in terms of justifications and mitigation but will the fact that I did not disclose this at the time have a detrimental effect on any subsequent investigation / hearing regarding my case.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Mike

Hi I've worked there for over 10 years on a full time basis, have had no previous actions against me other than an informal need to buck my ideas up regarding related issue which happened about 3 months ago. I've since offered a resolution prior to suspension which was at the time not confirmed as not possible however when mentioning this at the suspension meeting I was advised that I had been told no to my request - this was 100% not the case.0

You said you were OK with the note-taker being present then didn't give full answers. It won't have done you any favours when you bring out stuff later in the investigation the way some people "suddenly" remember convenient facts.0

I agree. What you appear to be saying is that you didn't tell the whole truth, or the truth. If that subsequently comes to light as part of the investigation, it will be chalked up to your lying. But it's impossible to advise beyond that because "sketchy" doesn't really cover it. If you want advice on how serious what you have done is we would need to know what you didn't tell the truth about.0

Appreciate your comments it centres around the note taker being my partners immediate line manager and me not wanting to divulge the facts about myself that may get back to her essentially my severe financial difficulties. Whilst I appreciate that these meetings are supposed to be fully in confidence I have witnessed things being let slip at work nights out etc. There are other factors also that I was and am extremely embarrassed about and did not feel I could speak about in the company of those present.0

But you didn't say so. You had the chance to. So claiming that you were not forthcoming because of this at a later stage if they found out that you didn't tell the truth will hardly help matters, will it. And I assume that your partner will find out something - and pretty quickly. The fact that you are suspended for example! Or are you going to be economical with the truth about that too? You are digging bloody great holes for yourself here. If you have not told the truth, then you need to before they find that out.0

Wold it be advisable to call my HR people tomorrow and explain that I have made omissions that I would like to now admit to before this goes on Amy further, ie they investigate what I said etc0

Re my previous post would I be better placed to consult with my union before speaking to HR. The thing about my meeting that I was suspended at is that I didn't appreciate that was the seriousness of the meeting it wasn't until the very end that I was told I was suspended. I had not wanted to bare my soul at the meeting if unnecesary as I thought the outcome of the meeting would have been that I was placed on an improvement plan or given a warning. It isn't that I lied I just didn't provide all of my information for the reasons I've already stated.
I would appreciate any advice as I really feel that I need to take action tomorrow first thing.0 -
this sounds like it was an investigatory meeting so if it goes to disciplinary then you will be able to say it all again and more.
I would leave it but speak to your union and see what they say.The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

Sorry - but I absolutely would not agree. The OP lied - even if it was by ommission. By all means speak to the union and tell the truth to them so they can advise you. But it is very simple. They asked you questions and you did not tell the truth (or the whole truth - the differnnce is slight). If they find out the whole truth then you are screwed. Would you believe someone who had a chance to tell the truth, said they would and were happy with the people there - and later said the opposite only after being caught lying??? Does anyone actually think an employer is going to believe anything but the worst if they catch an employee in a lie during an investigatory meeting? I know that "legally" suspension is a neutral act and blah, blah blah - and the entire world knows that suspension means that they are investigating something that they take very seriously and may result in you being dismissed. Is this going to help your "financial difficulties"? I doubt it. You are quite possibly on a one shot for saving your job. Whatever they have accused you of, I notice you are not screaming your innocence from the heavens... Do not compound whatever stupidity you may have committed with lying about it - or being economical with the truth. You stand in much greater danger than your OH finding out the truth. She, at least, may forgive you eventually...0
