  • Tesco should not have a policy of double the difference for wrongly priced goods if they don't want to honour it. Many of the smaller branches totally ignore the policy or just refuse to honour it. I was actually being served by two senior members of staff when I pointed out that the plums were labelled £1 yet the till was showing £1.47, yet neither offered DTD. I felt they should have offered the DTD without my asking. However, I already had a problem at the self service tills (which was why two members of staff were serving me), so I didn't feel I could make anymore fuss and I just ask them to charge me the correct amount.

from what i read i don't think you had paid when you brought it to their attention? if that is so, then they do not have to give you double the difference. double the difference is only applicable once you have paid. if you really wanted to claim dtd you would have been best to keep quiet, pay and then take it up with customer services.

It is not a deliberate attempt on our part to overcharge or mislead customers in any way. It is a simple human error when POS hasn't been removed once the offer has expired.

I agree that you should be entitled to a refund if you have been overcharged but I don't agree with scammers that are aware of this and buy in bulk because they know they receive the item for free and their money back

Tesco do far better out of overcharging people that customers don't spot, compared to the insignificant amount of customers who exploit the DTD rule.

Tesco would stop this overnight by changing the policy from double the difference, to that of other stores were they just refund you your overcharge.
  • Thanks debs81 for the advice

Thought as this thread is called "Tesco misprice thread 7 - please post only misprices here" I thought it might be nice to bring this discussion to an end.

Same today in my local store bright yellow SELsl and like an idiot I only got 2 boxes, could have risked 4 but a successful DD in a smalls store that is usualy very very keen on having the correct labels so keep an eye out for these

Yesterday Tesco conned me out of £39 in one purchase. If I hadn't noticed this on the receipt do you think that the store would have realised and contacted me, apologised and given me a refund?

This wasn't an out of date POS, just very, very, poor service.

    But it's ok for...

Tesco to screw their suppliers in paying them pennies while adding huge mark ups to the end price?

Tesco to make their delivery drivers do a 12 hour shift with one 1/2 hour break?

Tesco to drive prices low and put the local business' out of business and close?

Tesco to sell 'out of date' meat (as seen on TV)?

I don't think anyone thinks its a "deliberate attempt" but as we (the consumer) are at the end of the chain, we pay for the supplier, transportation, marketing, packaging, employee wages, bills. And if Tesco want to apply a DTD policy then they are leaving it open for interpretation by the consumer.

So if we are able to take advantage of human error then good on us, it's about time we all fought back, whether bank charges, overpricing, SEL errors.

And why do staff come on here and defend Tesco. Sir Terry Yeahy is big enough and ugly enough to cop the flak. He's well in with the government and got a knighthood out of it. But his foot soldiers are all there in place, calling people scammers, if they were to take advantage of 'Tesco's generosity'.

Laugh, in nearly went to Asda.
    Quotes in context only please.
  • Can we please put an end to this conversation, otherwise nobody will be able to benefit from the misprices anymore as the forum will be closed just like the other one was!

But you don't get the item free and your money back any more.

BTW would you still say all this if you didn't work for Tesco? If I worked for Tesco, I'd help people to screw something out of them:rotfl:

As ever Tesco quick as lightning to cascade the change in policy to staff. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
