i noticed kronenbourg 4x cans marked as 3 for £4 yesterday. i pretty much twigged that this was wrong (12 cans for £4!) but bought 24 cans and then went straight to CS. the lady there admitted the error, but then said that the policy had changed lately and that they no longer offer DTD on SEL's. is this true?! luckily a queue had formed behind me and since she couldn't work the till, she muttered "sod it- i'll do it my way" and i got an r&r! hey presto- a case of free beer!

I thought that I was on to one when I found a 5 pack of boxed Maxell DVD+RW for £1.74. (They're usually at least £5.00)
However, they scanned correctly for £1.74. Looking on their website, that seems to be the sale price.
The Romford branch also had a boxed 5 pack of TDK 8.5GB dual layer DVDs for £9.99 (usually £19.99). On the website they are BOGOF at £19.99.
Dual layer discs are still generally pretty expensive, so if anyone needs any, look out for them in Tescos.
I did manage to get some off eBay for less, but it was a low priced auction that no one else bid on.

UPDATE: The DVD RWs have gone back up to £5 something on the website, they were supposed to be reduced by £1.74, not sold for £1.74. So I guess that if there are any still on the shelves at that price they might scan as £5+.

hmm.... let's see- i walked out with 24 cans of beer for free. i hardly see how i was the one being robbed. i could have argued for double the difference, but for £2 i think i'd rather keep my dignity (and my free beer) intact.

It's not about dignity, it's about principles.

The point I think Ben was making is that Tesco consistently have crappy Price Integrity and that Customer Service Staff often attempt to avoid the clear policies given to them by Head Office and displayed in each and every store.

During R&R CS staff would often attempt to avoid this policy when dealing with customers who had been overcharged - sometimes CS staff would become very aggressive.

It was Tesco's doing that led to the R&R frenzy and multiple console mis-prices - this in turn led to a rethink by the wise and the good in Dundee and DTD was born.

But even now - as your example shows - CS staff still avoid implementing company policy - sure you were content with your free beer - but you were entitled to DTD - a profit in this case - just like the recent Disney DVDs reported on this forum.

So you were shafted - a very pleasant way to be shafted - but shafted none-the-less.

I lost a lot of interest in Tesco after the demise of R&R - I've done quite a few unintentional DTDs during a normal shop - all for relatively small amounts of money - yet still some CS staff attempt to avoid the DTD policy.

I was once even scolded by a CS Witch for not checking the price myself as the Sales Assistant scanned my shopping...needless to say The Dude put this hag right.

    Rant over :D

In all fairness I don't think this is the case, it's more a case of cultural prejudice the csa's take it very personal and are encouraged to do so, they are openly encouraged to put obstacles in the way of your alleviating them of their obligations.

Oh yes. A profit of £8.03, plus a free DVD that fetches a tenner on eBay.

Even better than R+R. This is fun, fun, fun, Tesco-style.

One really did Fly Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

    Thanks, Sir Tel.
