  • They've got server problems. They're trying to reduce the load on the servers by turning off certain functions (like avatars and search). Try searching - it wasn't working for me yesterday. I got a message saying I do not have permission to search. From what I've read elsewhere on the site, the servers don't have the capacity to cope with the voluime of hits the site is getting. Until they get a new server, things will have to be turned off to free up bandwidth.

EDIT: Search appears to be on today, but it's very limited. Looks like the database has been trimmed, or taken offline.

Kevin Kelly (remember him?) called me this morning and told me it was entirely my fault for not noticing the date on the SEL. He effectively said it was down to the customers to notice OOD SEL's, and not buy the products, althought I couldn't actually get him to say those words. Apparently its also my fault that the SEL cahnging people hadn't done their job so soon after Christmas, somehow. Took the lot back for a refund. Am frankly disgusted, but no other recourse. TS is pointless.

Hang on a minute! TS isn't pointless! Tesco are skating on incredibly thin ice with this new OOD SEL excuse.

I've been working with a brilliant guy from my local TS recently, and had a meeting with him not so long ago regarding a similar e-mail I had from Dundee claiming that OOD SELs don't constitute overcharges. TS do not agree with this, and I can't go into too much detail but my local TS are most definitely doing something about it.

Basically my local TS say that because the size of the date on the SEL is so small, it can not be reasonably argued that it represents a get-out clause. Otherwise Tesco could fill their store with amazing giveaway offers, with "expires 31/12/1999" in a tiny font size under each one. It just doesn't wash.

Please go to your local TS dept about this matter - they have a statutory duty to investigate.

    R&R hits the press....its a must read!!!..........

An interesting read - thanks for posting that.

Now hands up how many of us have been offered free flowers and chocolates and an apology for the "distress" after being overcharged....

*taxiphil looks around but can't see any hands in the air*

Funny how they got all gooey and fluffy with their fawning apologies after the press got involved. How disgustingly insincere. I'm glad Mrs Hill told them where they could stick their bouquet.

Went scouting for an XBOX 360 bundle today. I found the small mock XBOX boxes with "XBOX + PE6 bundle" stickered on them and also a price sticker on the small box of 279.XX.

Underneath though, the SEL stated 299.XX, so I decided to leave it to seek advice on here.

Who would attempt this one, given that the till girl may spot the error for starters?

And another thing they keep the little box at the checkout (I assume), so what proof do I have of the different price?

Who would go for this, because if I try it I can't use that store again!

?? of course you can use that store again if you get an r+r.

you will have done nothing wrong.

unless they ban you which is very unlikely, especially if its your first r+r.

I have had a console, loads of dvds, beer etc all from the same store on different dates.

and they should sell your the item at the lowest advertised price ie if it scans at the higher price you can claim an overcharge.

    I say go for it.....quick!

As you are walking away from the till casually check your receipt and go back to the cashier and point out the error (play innocent and ask what you should do and they will either direct you to customer services or call a supervisor. If they direct you to customer services ask for the DVD case which holds the bar code (and more importantly the misprice) on it. Just tell her/him that you need it to show customer services the pricing query. They will either give it to you or call a supervisor....either way you will have your 'proof'

    Good luck:beer:
