I actually mentioned this procedure above in answer to a returns query above.
They can do it if they wish, unfortunately though, they dont often "wish" to do it
Leadhead, i dont think its a case of if they wish to do so, if you actually know the process involved, unless you actually have some very specific detail then it is quite a difficult thing to do. You need to know the exact day that the item was purchased otherwise the search will take a very long time. The wider the timeframe the longer the search will take. Also it depends on the amount of the particular item that is sold as to how long the search will take. Imagine how long it would take if you said "I bought a can of beans but have lost the receipt"!!
Aside from that, it is not Tescos responsibility to retain anyones receipt in case of a possible refund, it is the customers in exactly the same way that it is not up to the customer to ensure that the labels are correct it is up to tesco.Fight Poverty - Hit a tramp!

SEL (Expired 26/12/2006) 297.xx?
Actual: 317.xx
Going back for refund tomorrow....
Kevin Kelly (remember him?) called me this morning and told me it was entirely my fault for not noticing the date on the SEL. He effectively said it was down to the customers to notice OOD SEL's, and not buy the products, althought I couldn't actually get him to say those words. Apparently its also my fault that the SEL cahnging people hadn't done their job so soon after Christmas, somehow. Took the lot back for a refund. Am frankly disgusted, but no other recourse. TS is pointless.
Went to 9 different tescos today looking for a mispriced bundle. Got JACK. Anyone with who has seen one in the SE/London, please PM me with a tipoff?0 -

Or maybe, appealing to someone's good nature who already has more than 1 XBox, they could just tip off a fellow MSE'er. Who knows what bounds human kindness....0 -

Just to reiterate Spa's comments. Searching without an exact purchase date is very time consuming. Searching for a sale without credit or club card numbers (ie cash sale) is virtually impossible (unless it was a high value item and was the only thing purchased).
Easiest solution for all concerned is keep the receipt.Who or what was I before you came in to my life

They come from a temperamental laser printer. The information is sent down through the back office system.

Totally agree Spa/Constantine........just trying to indicate that some CSA's are a lot more helpful than others.......and agree with responsibility thing.
