I have this evening been made to feel like a criminal because of this forum.

I purchased an Xbox 360 from Tesco that had a sticker with the price on the shelf of £279.99 but was charged £299.99. I went to the customer service desk and told them I had been over charged, one of the first things I was as was asked was did I know of what I now assume is this site where people post mis-prices and then try and get them for free from Tesco.

They offered me the difference but I tried my luck and mentioned the sign behind the desk. Thinking they would tell me to get stuffed and that I could only have the difference back

While I stood and waited for managers to help me I could tell something was not right and it now makes sense to me, they thought I had previous knowledge about this scam and had gone there with the intention of getting it for free. When in fact I had been searching around for one in the New Years sales and found this one to be the cheapest price.

I had to provide Tesco with my driving licence to prove who I was and where I lived and I now feel that when I go back there (I shop there each week) I will be followed and known as the one that tried to scam Tesco out of £300.

One of the members of staff that came to help me had what looked to be a huge list of items that had been posted on this site and this Xbox was at the top of it.

Tesco has now gained my loyalty for this excellent level of customer service and I will ensure that continually shop there.

I assume that Tesco read these message boards and would like to thank them for honouring this gesture of good will despite what appears to be systematic abuse of it my a number of users of this website. If I were Tesco I would now scrap this policy and ensure that you were all banned from entering a Tesco again.

OK, they are a big multination business but that does not mean that what you are doing is right. Should I have been made to feel like I did this evening? It was human error, have none of you ever made a mistake?

Really don’t know what else to say, I am stunned that you feel this is right.
where in the country is this store !!!!!!

Allstar get a grip. You have just said they had a list with misprices on it. If Tesco's employed more staff or paid the ones which work there a better wage they may have had the time to fix the error.

    "I tried my luck"

Thats what we all do on a daily basis, sometimes we win sometimes we dont. I'm in no way a criminal, as i was told by Trading standards only today when I reported Tesco's to them "It is a criminal offence to charge a higher price than that displayed so we will problably have to take them to court over this"

From what I have learnt this will probably lead to a fine of around about £2k, should I feel guilty for this?
We took on Mr T and we won:D

Shame it had to end, will have to get free stuff from comps now

maybe beacuse the member of staff doing it had become was ill and had to go home, maybe a family member had died and they had to go home, maybe they had been run over on the way to work but one of you lot thinking they had the right to go to Tesco and and simply take the item from them.

If they asked you if you knew the price was wrong before giving you a refund, would you say yes? Or, would you lie to somebody to benefit yourself and claim you did not know about this.

With all respect do NOT tell me to "get a grip"

This store was the Newton Abbot store in Devon and if they are reading this thank you.

The reason that lead to the price was wrong was due to human error, as i said before have you never made a mistake, forgot to do something?

Just because someone left their keys in the car does not make it right for me to just hope in and drive it away.

Try and justify it to me all you want but at the moment I can not see how you are going to turn this around into thinking it is OK

Just one question allstar if I may.....did you know it was mispriced before you bought it?
They've got cars big as bars
    They've got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you

If Tesco tell me they only give me back double the difference and I find a sticker on a window with the old policy would they have to honour it?

A rather odd email to post which raises a couple of questions in my mind.

Firstly why if it makes you so uncomfortable did you accept the full refund?

Secondly why would Tesco advertise this site to people who aren't already aware of it?

Thirdly why did you feel driven to find this site ( I'm sure Tescos didn't give the web address), register and make this post?

Its not unusual to be asked for your name address for refunds. Most stores that provide refunds will ask for home address (Argos does) mainly to prevent fraud from staff I believe.

You were unfortunate to be overcharged and fortunate to get a refund. Hopefully your actions will have prevented someone else being overcharged in that particular store.

    There is two possibilities here.

    1) allstar is full of sh*t with regards to this "list" which was produced. Why the hell would tesco staff show it to people.

    2) Tesco are so stupid, that even though they know the xbox is mispriced, they still wouldn't change it.

I really don't know which one is most plausible.
