  • Grossly underpaid for what?? So say if my pay is in the 40,000 - 45,000 bracket then what is my job role and what is required of me by Tesco exactly?

Well if you earn 40-45000 in a store that says earns between 50-65million a year you should be no more than something like (in Tesco terms) a team leader. A store manager should earn at least 1-3 million with staff Immediately lower earning between 1 million - 500,000. If your store earns less please tell me how much and I will work out a compariable number and if you are only a team leader again I will bow to you truth but I doubt both. Just research the comparipale sales and profits to manager earnings in most markets and you will find as a Tesco Employee you are underpaid.
  • I was very good this year and Santa knew it :D

I was good too but i still had to queue for mine (sort of ;) )

I didn't ask you what i should be doing i asked you what you thought the job role is for that pay structure - What do you think someone on 40-45,000 does at Tesco at the moment. Do you really think that TLs should be paid 40 - 45,000 per year? Do you know their job role and indeed how many TLs are employed by Tesco? For a MD you certainly know how to run a successful business into the ground - You didn't work for Sainsburys before Justin King came along did you?:D ;)

  • If you read my previous posts you will see that pay structures are based on what 'cat' store you are in and also where in the country you are hence the large diffrences in pay. IOW may very well be 'One of the biggest stores in the country' but does it have a turnover to match? And also i can tell you of several other bigger more successful stores in the Tesco estate. You have to remember in places such as London, Manchester, Glasgow etc, etc, the pay bands will be higher due to competition from other retailers etc,. Also i have recieved several 'head hunting' calls but the pay of other 'successful' companies along with benefits simply do not come close.

Firstly the pay bands between each are area geologically linkned only, at most there is a 20 grand difference. Secondly who headhunted you? Other retail companies? I bet know one like Smithkline recruited you. I would also like to give you this quote "According to the Guardian, the eight directors who run Tesco earned £26m between them in 2003-2004. 6 This is more than any other board of directors in the FTSE 100. The Tesco key players netted £4m more than directors from Vodafone, in the number two spot, and £23m more than rivals Sainsbury and Morrisons. None of the Tesco executive directors earned less than £1.8m.

The report notes that David Reid was the highest paid Tesco executive, making £8.6m last year, largely as a result of cashing in share options accumulated during his 20 years on the board of the grocery group. He became non-executive chairman during 2004.

Sir Terry Leahy, the chief executive, was paid £4.3m in cash and long-term incentives.

Average Tesco wages outside the boardroom were among the lowest in the survey. An analysis by the Guardian found that Sir Terry was valued the same as 335 of his employees.
The eight non-executive directors get paid between £44,000 and £72,000 a year for turning up to a few meetings."

Argue as long as you want that Tesco employees are underpaid but I am the only one providing proof. Funny that!

Very funny, no my business is very successful. Just read my other post as prove of what I have said. It doesnt matter what a team leader does, if each store earns 52Million + they should be eraning at least that. The IOW earns at least that and you are suggesting they are paid less than others. Also the figures I have researched seemed to agree with me rather than you. Hey if you are qualified and experienced maybe you should send me a message, I may be able to find you a job that compensetates you properly.

I think that the top guys at Tesco actually deserve this amount - They have successful remained the Number.1 Supermarket retailer in the UK since 1992, They are on course to become the biggest Non Food retailers in the UK within 3-6 months, They are the Number.1 Supermarket online site, Continious sales growth achieved both in the UK and Europe.

Why would a pharmarcy orientated company head hunt a Tesco retail manager?

You seem to be arguing that the Tesco board are over paid. Not seen any evidence yet regarding Tesco staff being underpaid. Although I will not be all that surprised when you dig out the comparisons from some uber members-only super site.

Still...quite what this has to do with miss prices other than the suspect supposition that there are so many idiots working in store, I am not sure.

I am pretty certain none of the underpaid store staff had any hand in moving all the crucial IT operations to India. That must have been one of those over paid people that really matters...
Who or what was I before you came in to my life
    I am not sure
  • So we have the following:

*A successful MD of a large company posting on here
*The said MD uses this site to gain R+Rs
*The MD has one contact with a named Tesco store miles from anywhere
*The MD is clearly dilusional, has far to much time on their hands and is grieved by the £23 million earned by the people who made Tesco so successful

    Thank you and Goodnight:D
