Very nice but the grundig could record TV from supplied AV leads and had an on board camera.0 -

Bought at the end of November 2007 and used for at least 5 hours every working day since and it's now no more.
I mainly used it for MP3 and noticed odd mistracking of tracks happening, then there was a slight buzzing noise from the unit when the back was pushed slightly. It then got worse with proper loud grating noises from the hard-drive and when the back panel was pushed slightly, the LCD screen would distort.
So I suspect that I was getting the start of the 'battery bulge' problem as detailed elsewhere on this thread.
Spoke to the script-readers in India who promised a callback from the UK CS team that never happened, but I did get a callback following an email complaint about that, and a UPS label for return of the item appeared a few days later. Unfortunately as I suspected there's no further stock for replacement.
Refund has been made in full today which is a relief as I harboured my doubts that they may refuse on the grounds I'd changed the firmware on the product to the Sorel one - so this is a heads-up to any other owners whose units go kaputt that are worried about that issue.
Now I need to find an alternative decent hard-drive size MP3/Mp4 player that does XVID raw, plus if possible a camera, radio and ability to record from TV. Was going to get the Aigo 120gb one at bigpockets but they've just sold out.0 -
UK's current cheapest prices for the Archos 605 (various sizes). It does alot but for most things you'll need to purchase extra plugins, eg. ~£15 for opera web browser, ~£50 for DVR dock (allows tv recording), ~£25 for travel dock (allows audio recording), extra codecs, GPS, etc etc. It's so cheap though you should be able to mix & match things to do everything you want for <£200.
Note also these don't include eBay prices, just new UK retail stores, and I haven't incuded any Quidco cashback or most other voucher / discount / pricematches you can get elsewhere.
And all are from my original and constantly updated thread at http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?t=6146

Being a *best* gadget thread and not cheapest, I would've gone with the Cowon Q5W, but to start with it's around £400 which, even if it executed all it's included functionality perfectly, would still be a push to beat the Archos even with all plugins / addons purchased. But it fails miserably with a poor OS / browser choice (CE 5.0 / IE), very poor flash video playback, small and slow interface, lack of playlist support, poor GPS implementation, etc etc. On paper it should be great, and does have the best quality audio and video available in a device of it's type, but for the price and poor performance with everything else the Archos is an almost clear winner. Although if you just want audio playback you may be able to find a smaller Cowon made model for a lot cheaper and still have great quality audio, something Archos aren't known for.0 -
My Grundig had sied - more specifically the HDD has died.
I've taken it apart and can remove the Toshiba HDD easily enough but where can I get a replacemnt and will it work?
Any ideas?
ThanksUh?0 -
I couldn't find one from a reputable supplier after a very quick look, but prices on ebay for 30gb Toshiba 1.8" drives are £30-£40. I don't see why the swap out shouldn't work either. If you are interested though, I'm looking to sell mine as I no longer use it and you could it for £60 delivered.0

Hi,
I have had this gadget 2 years now and in the past have had no trouble recording a DVD from the TV on to my media player but today when I did it I had a interfering buzzing noise when I played back the film on my media player.
Any ideas what I have done wrong?
Thanks0
