  • Hotels are a nightmare! £5 for two cups for tea, not even a mug!

Kids now at outlaws who have made room for them, that should cut the bills down a bit. School uniforms are in storage though!

    Arghhhh!

I'm keen to know what happens today - good luck with your solicitors.
  • My solicitor isn't there. Was at the offices at 9 AM! She seems to not have called in.

Clerk there looked through the files and has found the account number the money has been transferred to. It is similar to the one given by the vendors solicitor but two digits are different. It looks like an honest typo!

However, they have been on the the bank and the money is not in the account that it was sent to - transferred out already - who knows!?

Anyway, another solicitor at the practice is asking the bank to refund the money as it has left the solicitor's account.

The bank was on speaker phone and said they need permission from the account holder (who should not have had the money in the first place) - arghhh! Surely if they moved money that is not theirs they have committed a crime?

Solicitor has said they will transfer the money out of the business so that the sale can complete so will let you know what happens.

thanks - have been on tenterhooks for you!

perhaps it wasn't an error - perhaps the missing solicitor and the money being immediately transferred out is sinister?

Oh, I love a good conspiracy theory!
  • OMG, this sounds bad.

I would contact the Law Society (google them and should be first name that comes up) to ask for their advice as this could be quite serious and then go back to the solicitors informing them you have been in contact with the Law Society. This is bad, in the meantime make sure you keep receipts for ALL expenses incurred as a result of their serious error.

Having worked in a solicitors in the past this sounds very dubious especially as the solicitor has not turned up for work and the account has already been cleared out. Have they tried to contact the solicitor? IMHO they should be doing a lot more to rectify this situation.

Good luck and keep us informed.

But an account number only 2 digits different? Meaning about 6 digits the same? About 1 in a million. Must happen from time to time though ...

  • I thought it was odd too.

Have been given an update. My solicitor had left a voicemail message. Just hadn't been picked up as I was on the doorstep when they arrived this morning and has since been in to confirm she did not run off to the Bahamas!

Relative was ill and she is looking after them - so it doesn't look like she has run off!

Found out money has been transferred by vendor but removal firm is busy today and will be able to move us in by the end of the week.

So Z beds and sleeping bags ordered from local camping shop and will be in by 4pm! Yahhay.

Solicitors says forward everything to them claim wise and they will send on to their insurers.

They said bank still has not got thier money back though - as long as I don't need to worry about that!!!

So it was your solicitor who was entirely at fault, transferring money into the wrong account? And then did not bother to check that it had arrived in the correct account? This meant that the person who wrongly received the monies had three whole days in which to move the money online? And this solicitor has now gone AWOL? Hard to imagine an entirely innocent explanation for this unless the solicitor has had some sort of breakdown over the last few days.

Agree with the others - but try to focus on the important thing first. The solicitors have agreed to use their own money to fund the completion (which they absolutely should), that's fine. Get that sorted, get the completion done and get the keys to your new house.

As soon as you have moved in, you can then go back to the solicitors and make a formal complaint and agree suitable compensation for your losses. But get in that house first!

Sorry, just seen your update. You really need to make an official complaint about your solicitor. Not acceptable to bail out on you on Friday - she should have passed your case to a colleague if she was under stress and unable to do her job. Leaving a voicemail for you three days later is unacceptable.

My feeling, though, is that she will be in a ton of trouble already with her boss. People get ill, of course they do, but a simple phone call to a colleague and her client (you) would have avoided all of this.

If the monies are never recovered from the other account via the bank this firm of solicitors will have to cover the loss themelves. Not your problem. What you and your vendors need to do is to retain receipts for every out-of-pocket expense as you'll be looking to the solicitors to reimburse you.
