of course it is unusual!!

who in their right mind is going to employ the services of a joiner to remove their windows to get a cheap bed delivered...:rotfl:

It's unusual for the delivery drivers to take the windows out, but it's not unusual for the buyer to have to have them removed. I can't imagine Dreams drivers doing it.

Although it should be noted that even the most qualified and experienced bed salesman currently working in the industry would have had no more idea if the bed would fit into a house they'd never seen than a child on a week's work-experience in the bed store.

Well that's where you are wrong. An experienced salesman would have used common sense as the OP told him the type of house they lived in. And then he would have insisted that they either measure up first, or would have advised a zip and link bed if the customer insisted on super king size.

Many people don't even know if their existing bed is double or king size. So they may think that their existing bed is a king size when it is actually a double.

Hi all :)

The Forum Rules also ask that you do not engage in discussion over posts that you feel are inappropriate. Just wait for the Forum Team to deal with them.

• Don't report Private Messages inappropriate posts to Board Guides or individual MSE Team members.

This is not what Board Guides or MSE employees do and they cannot help - they often don't have access to the tools (that includes Martin). Reports must be sent to the Forum Team via the forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com email address.
• Don't comment on reported posts in the thread.

Just report it and let the Forum Team deal with it, however much you feel justified to make a comment. If you do, action could be taken on your posts as well. Please don't quote the post, as this causes the Forum Team more work.
• Do not start a report saying "I can't believe you haven't removed this already".

The forum is not monitored and the Forum Team only acts when it receives reports. Emails like this are not polite and won't win you any plaudits. It's likely the reason it's not been dealt with is no one has reported it yet.

Maybe what the salesman thought to be a standard sized house is different to what op thought to be.

When we had our sofa delivered the deliverymen unscrewed and took off the PVC window to get one inbut thats not always an option for some. At our current property we have a corridor which is currently the home of a 1.9m wide sofa as it wouldn't fit in the house. When looking round we jokily said 'I wonder if the sofa will fit in the door', the agent laughed and said 'it would be a stuggle but you should be able to' (we stayed with the same agent so they knew how big it was) --- who do we blame? Ourselves for not measuring up. Who don't we blame? The agent who didn't know the exact measurements of the house or the sofa.

So if the salesmen thought the 'common' size house was different to what op thought then who is at fault?

Okay fair enough people are mocking op a little (including me), but how on earth does anybody think these so called 'professionals' (first mistake) can make such a judgement without knowing the measurements?

This is stuff you just couldn't make up (unlike the Tesco posts :D).

Same, a new sofa wouldn't go through the doors or rather around a bend after the doors so rather than hold up the delivery men for something that wasn't really their fault, they put it in the garage for me and I had the UPVC window glass removed/refitted at a later date.

In this instance I think the OP should really have measured more thoroughly but as the salesman was so keen to get a sale they said it would fit then Dreams should honour this and allow them an exchange/credit.

The professional should ask.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

The professional should ask.

o'come on now

OP: My house is a common size, will it fit in?
SALESMAN: Yes, sign just here & here

Surely somewhere here op should say 'wait a minute, how would he know this without measurements?'.

The salesman specialises in beds, not building houses.

I don't agree with their tactics but sounds like op got carried away and now suffering the consequences.

Actually, I now wonder if there is a way to dismantle the bed? I've only ever bought beds from ikea so not sure how ops will be constructed :)

(Also the reason its falling to bits :( )
