    You can't dismantle a 6'6" x 6' mattress....think about it.

We bought a superking bed from Dreams last year, and it (together with all the others we looked at) is made up of two single beds zipped together - both the divan part and the mattress. First time I'd seen a bed like that, but the sales staff in Dreams (and other bed shops we went to) all said that a lot of superkings are done like that, mainly because few people have stairways wide enough to get the bed/mattress up to a bedroom.

Only to a point, otherwise you will damage them. And if you fold or crease them then they are knackered.

Enough to get them into rooms and around bends though. Not everyone has massive halls and landings, or lives in a bungalow.

All bases come in two parts, but most mattresses don't, unless they are zip and link. This is because it causes a ridge in the middle of the bed (not exactly what some couples want;)).

No, in many cases bending them may damage the mattress. I would say at the very most you can curve a mattress.

If you bend it too much you will void the guarantee, and will be left with a damaged mattress.

This is why people with tight staircases that turn, or those with low ceilings should take this into account before buying a bed. It's not just a case of what will fit in the bedroom, it's a case of can you get it there without damaging it.

You don't need a joiner to take out a wooden, sash window. It's surprisingly common place to have these removed when delivering large items up to first floor and above premises.

You clearly have more patient delivery men than I have ever had then!

Most say it is buyers responsibility and will not hang around while 100 yr old window frames are removed just to get a king bed upstairs...

I don't mean fold them in half, I think we are saying the same thing.Obviously thre has to be a certain amount of give in them or buying a new mattress would be a much more troublesome affair.

Ah, but my point is that a lot of the superking mattresses we looked at were zip & link, which is what the sales people were telling us as well. As for the ridge in the middle, it's barely noticeable - plus if you notice it getting in the way "at certain times", then you're not concentrating enough ;)

At the end of the day the salesman assured the OP that the bed will fit, so they should re-imburse you.

The OP could well have assumed that the bed dismantled because of the salesmans assurances.

We may be thinking the same thing, but the impression that you are giving could make people think that they can bend them, and this could cause damage.

Most beds are available in zip and link, but they are not the norm.
