@soo
yeah i mean i contact the high bidder before the auction end and state that payment is required immediately should the want the item for xmas.
generally the serious bidders reply quickly to say they intend to do so but in one instance with my wii's they replied saying all the right things then disappeared.

Even if tax ends up not being taxable a person still needs to register with the Inland revenue.

How does the government know if you are making profit, do you have to volunteer the information if requested?0 -

Tax laws require people to make a declaration of income to the Inland Revenue, so you should not wait until you are asked as that is often too late and you might already be in a default situation.
If you don't declare income, then the Revenue may still find out and if that happens you will not only have to pay the tax owing but also penalties and interest. Apparently the most commonw ay of the Inland revenue finding out that someone is trading is by anonymous tips, a jealous friend, or someone at work who hears you mention you sell a bit on ebay.

Ebay by law should not give your details to the inland revenue. As long as you do not give out your ebay username, it would surely be impossible for the Inland Revenue to track down your sales records, even if they do find out your username, do they have a right to demand information and tax pyments.
I though ebay covered taxes with their increase in fees a few years ago. If the inland revenue should be paid taxes for all profits then surely nearly every ebay seller is breaking the law?0
