Aye, you only pay tax on profits over 4k at the moment
Basically contact them and say you have started selling items on ebay for profit, keep all receipts for buying and selling and fill in a self assesment at the end of the tax year
If you don't do too much reselling then you shouldnt have to pay any tax, but its the fine thats the worry if you don't register and someone gets nasty with you

why not cancel her now? or are you only doing that hoping that she has people bidding against her that will make it sell for a higher price?
and when you say she is being nasty and you not done anything spiteful... well actually, you listed a wii you didnt have and she bought it, so really you started this, you shouldnt of sold off ebay without withdrawing the sale first, it must of took the guy more than 12 hours to sort out a flight up and so you could of checked your auctions and withdrawn it.. i would be furious too, if my son wanted one badly, i bid on one for an average price and then the seller mailed me to say it didnt exsist..... o yeah, but relist one 5 hours later..... (the none exsiting one....) obviously you just wanted more money.. and yes what she is doing now is wrong but you started it !!
shill bidding - agaisnt ebay rules
selling off ebay - against ebay rules...
listing items that you dont have - against ebay rules...
fees of £200 !!!!!!!!!!! mad. you need to step back, contact that woman, see if she wants it for the original price... take a deep breath and be nice.
its xmas, not time to rip each other off.....0 -

Not strictly true. all profits are taxable once you have used your personal allowances, so if you already have any income, earned or otherwise against which you set your allowances then profits from trading would be taxable from the moment you show a profit.
Even if tax ends up not being taxable a person still needs to register with the Inland revenue.

@poochy
i concur i have not helped myself. when the guy called me to say he wanted to fly up i was on the road to stirling from glasgow for a night out, and he called me continuously to give me details about his arrival time etc. so i couldnt get to a pc to log into ebay to cancel, but that never crossed my mind as i was under the impression he was going to ensure he won the auction to keep it legal.
before the irate woman was bidding 2 other people had won auctions hence me telling her that there wasn't one and i apologised profusely and even told her where i got mine and where she might get one with numbers and told her to go on ebay at 3am as there is less competitiion etc, but she bombarded me with threats.
and i gave the one person who had not yet paid (the other auction the flight guy was supposed to win was won and that person paid instantly) the rest of the evening to pay me, with me emailing him warning about the instant payment requirement and the time limit for xmas delivery etc, byut he isnt replying, and had zero feedback. so last night i relisted.
however if she was NICE and willing to be civil as regards the predicament, when i gave that guy till 9pm to pay or even just reply to me and he didnt i would have offered it to her for 333/322 or whatever the price of the lower one was that she won. however she has been a complete !!!!! so i dont feel too obliged to help her, but as her feedback was all seeming acquired in a day, and she has bid and won another wii auction i would be suprised if she sent me that money in the first place. i am smelling a rat because she wants to pay for the 908 quid wii she wants and is still threatening me, i have been advised that she may well have hacked anccount or paypal account and i should not deal with her if she wants to pay nearly 1300 for two wii's something has to be wrong.
thanks:dance:  R&R since 1/12/06 = £549

Sorry, I'm still finding this confusing?
You keep mentioning that you have been messed around because the auction was for instant payment, yet an auction can't be instant payment only a BIN. If it was a BIN, and I don't think it was in this case then setting it up as immediate payment required would have meant the auction did not finish until the buyer had completed the paypal payment properly.
Obviously if you mean you had a straight auction and just made your own requirement up that you wanted 'immediate payment' you couldn't insist on that as ebay allow buyers 7 days to pay, so your buyers are perfectly able to wait until day 7 and then pay and apart from leaving them a neg (and quite rightly getting one in return) there would be nothing you could do about it.
