Ships use fuel oil that they buy by the ton, its impossible to know what price they get it for. Ferry companies know people will always think about rising petrol prices and pay more without question, when in reality we have no clue about how much marine fuel oil prices have risen.0 -
I agree that the costs are very high - it may help any of you needing to tavel on the overnight ferry to liverpool to know that Groupon have a voucher today that can be used when booking the ferry. It costs £5 but is worth £50.
The catch being....if you took the day time journey....its about £100, but it can only be used for a night return....at £200 a leg!
That will be £350 sir......!!! Hardly worth it.0 -

Another of the 'Ferry Prices are Frustrating Prices' brigade here. We have crossed on Larne/Cairnryan, Belfast/Stranraer (formerly Larne Stranraer) regularly for over 20 years. The prices being charged over the past few years have become a joke (except there is no one laughing, apart from the Ferry companies themselves).butterfly )i(0

We are in the same boat (excuse the pun) over here in the CI
It costs us more to get to the UK or France than it does for people travelling over to the islands or even them going to France via us!
An overnight ferry to Portsmouth leaving Guernsey at 5.30pm and getting into Portsmouth at 6.00am the next day can cost over £450!
The fast ferry can easily be between £400-500 and the service we get is abusolutely crap!
So I can totally sympathise with you on the price of ferries
unfortunately for us as well, flying is expensive so we are stuck paying extortionate prices to get off these islands0 -
cheerz BOBS- think you have saved me around £100!:beer:0

Have you tried ringing Nutt travel in Coleraine - they always had competitive rates - cheaper than online with Stena.. This would be my 2nd option after the Tesco vouchers which have saved us a smal fortune over the years.
BOBS, am just counting the TESCO vouchers now, can these be redeemed via the Nutt Travel mentioned in your post?
Thanks, P0
