Citibank (Platinum Visa) have offered me 5.9% till balance paid off with a 2% fee (capped at £75). I'm tempted to go for this as a 10K transfer only costs me 0.75% and 5.9% is comparable with my mortgage rate.

well i did some cleaning up today. old credit cards that i havnt used in 2+ years.

well 4 i found had already been cancelled :) 4 more i cancelled today and was going to cancel virgin.

they were the only ones who offered me anything to stay.

here is the deal i took.

i thought my limit was 7200.00 but found it had been increased to 9000.00 a year ago.

they offered me a 0% until 18/3/2007 with a max fee of £35.00, and i could transfer 95%, so 8550.00. i was ready to transfer it to egg money but the girl said i could transfer it straight into my bank, which i did.

i made sure the £35.00 didnt incur interest, and i was also told that my 1st payment would be the 35.00 fee + £5.00.

then i would only have to pay £5.00 per month while its on 0%, this im not so sure about so am prepared for it to be 2.25% of balance..

i was then told if i miss a payment or buy anything else on it my apr reverts to its normal 9.9% which i think is pretty dam low anyway.

so this week i will be mostly stoozing: :D

    8550.00 virgin 03/07
    3700 post office 6 months
    1300 harley davison(poor limit). 9 months

i also heard people have been getting 50% more on the PO card if they ask while doing the BT!! might try it.

    pfpf.

I phoned LlloydsTSB to close my Advance credit card. They put me through to the 'closure team' who then offered me 0% for 6 months or 1.9% for 12 months on balance transfers, with the transfer fee waived. Thought I'd mention it as the table of existing customer offers has them down as offering only 5.9% life of balance. Just make sure you clear the account and then get through to the closure team. Apologies if someone else has already flagged this.

I always make a point of asking for an extension when low rate BTs are due to expire. Doesn't often work – M&S Money said I could have zero per cent earlier this year, then changed their mind by the time I'd got my next statement!

However, Virgin extended their card's low-rate BT for six months. And there wasn't a BT fee for me – even though they had just introduced one for new customers at the time.

Trouble is, the market for fee-free BT cards now seems to have shrunk. It would be easy just to give up and swallow the £50 (or more) charge, but when you've been switching around on cards for years for nothing, that's a bridge too far.

Now going for a Post Office card, and hoping they'll give me a big enough balance to include the £3k I've got stoozed in premium bonds.

Fingers crossed, and happy saving everyone!

  • Nothing doing at Natwest. Would be interested to hear from anyone who has been told different. I think that there had been a flyer out around World Cup time for 4.9% for 6 months or something like that. I don't have the flyer any more though.

MBNA sound the best from what people have said. If only others were also like this!
  • I called MBNA today to see if they'd let me do a 0% BT (I've had an MBNA Platinum Plus card for about seven years now). They said no, but a BT rate of 0.9% was available.

That seems pretty good, but at the time I was in a '0% or nothing' mood so told them that if it wasn't going to be zero interest I'd go elsewhere thanks. Currently I'm inclined to go for the Capital One Platinum 18 month deal and keep the MBNA card in reserve.
