I still can't get MBNA to go lower than 4.9% for 6 months with a £50 balance transfer fee. What am I doing wrong? My balance with them is now clear, it is even in credit by a few pounds as I know there would have been a bit of interest to pay.

Anyone got any tips on what I can do next?

Try borrowing more money. Put the cash in your cheque account then pay the cash back to MBNA apart from the amount you want. I have found that the more you want to transfer then normally the APR is cheaper

They won't increase my credit limit any more but they have now offered me 2.9% for 6 months which helps loads as my original APR was a staggering 24.9%!

Just cleared my MBNA of around £1500.

They phoned me up and I got 1.9% for 6 months with 2% fee - becoming the norm for existing customers I think.

I have a Halifax One card, I've already had 9 months at 0% for Balance Transfers, any possibility of a good deal now my balance is NIL.

My bog standard barclaycard 9mth 0% Apr runs out on Aug 1st, phoned them last night and got a deal for 6.9% for life of balance transfers so going to switch the barclaycard debt out for a couple of days then put it back, along with an egg card balance and some of the massive debt I have on lloyds tsb platinum (£14.5 k, 13.9% APR) A couple of posts from a few months back speak of lloyds phoning up customers when they notice the balance going down and offering better rates. Rather than sit around waiting for that to happen I want to phone them and negotiate a rate head on. any suggestions as to the likelihood of this happening and what sort of APR I could expect? Credit rating is so so, mainly because of multiple house moves, though military, however been a lloyds customer for over 15 years and always make my cc payments.

Anyone else know of what to negotiate for life of balance transfers and credit limit for existing egg customers?
    Thanks!

Lloyds are currently offering Asset Platinum existing customers 5.9% Apr for life of balance, plus 2% fee, max £40 fee.

Thanks! That gives me some goalposts!!

Is the 2% fee 2% of existing balance or £40 whichever the higher sort of thing?

2% of the balance transfer amount, per transfer with a maximum fee of £40, so transfer amounts over £2001 have a maximum fee of £40 per transfer.

sorry richardw, can I just get this straight before I send OH off begging for a better rate, is the 5.9% on transfers to the card or on the existing debt? The £14kl on the lloyds is the highest amount we have on one card and so we can't transfer it anywhere to transfer it back onto the platinum card (if you follow me). Ideally we want to negotiate a reduced rate for the £14k balance on the platinum card without having to try and move it anywhere

Moving it to the card, if the balance currently on the card is £ NIL.
