Dad thinks all taxi drivers will break into the house while they are on holiday
Let the taxi collect them from your house;) :p . Have they sorted what they're doing yet?

Travel Lodge is a good idea though. I'll pass that on.

I think they meant an airport taxi for changing terminals on the way back. That should save a wee bit of time.

Sticking with the original plans. Dad is so confident that nothing will go wrong and nothing will persuade him otherwise.

I mentioned booking the £15 Travel Lodge room on return "just in case" but he doesn't want to waste £15 as he will be on the evening flight to Newcastle. Yeah right!

To be honest, I've done as much as I can to explain the problems to him, and I've lost the will to help anymore :o

Well today is the day and there are already complications

Dad booked all 3 flights under one booking through Opodo and just has the one reference number for the whole booking. None of the online check in systems will work with this number, so he's been on the phone to BA and Virgin this morning who said he cannot use online check in with his type of booking. Virgin said he couldn't check in over the phone.

I'm taking them to Newcastle earlier so they can check in as normal at the desks, but Virgin advised him to check in 2 hours before the Mumbai flight. He didn't ask what time the check in desk closes.

The Newcastle flight lands at 19.05, and the Mumbai one departs at 21.45.

I've said it's not possible to collect the cases and get from terminal 1 to terminal 3 in 45 mins to check in at the time Virgin advised.

All he'll say is "oh it'll be alright. We'll sort it out at Heathrow".

Mam is now in a mad panic as she thinks they'll miss the Mumbai flight.

    I'll keep you updated............

    This may be useful
    FLYING WITH VIRGIN ATLANTIC

Departures: Our check in is located Terminal 3, South Wing, Zone A. This can be found on the left hand side as you drive into Terminal 3 - opposite Zone B. All elevators from the Heathrow Express and Underground trains arrive directly into the South Wing check in area.
Check in opens every day at 06:30.

    Terminal:3 Check in area:Zone A, Desks 1 to 35 Check in open:0600 local time
Check in close:1 hour prior to departure
Ticket desk hours:0600 to 2130 local time
To help your flight leave on timewe recommend you allow 1 hour to get from check in to the departure gate.
You must be on board the aircraft 30 minutes before your flight is due to depart
    .
I think, even if the Mumbai flight is delayed the check-in desk closure will still apply for the 1hr before the expected departure time viz it will close at 20:45

Hold on, did you say that everything has been booked under the same refernce number (PNR), with Opodo?

If that is the case, am pretty sure your folks would be covered if they missed any flights. As its all booked under the same PNR they will be able to have their bags checked in all the way to Goa (via London and Mumbai).

Unfortunately it doesn't mean a thing; I could book you on 60 flights with 60 carriers on a PNR.

They only get their bags checked through if the airlines have agreements with each other.

Hmm, I was always under the impression that if you had one PNR bags would be checked through, regardless of airline, alliance or agreement.

    Nope!

However, most PNR's feature flights booked using one airline contract i.e. Virgin Longhaul with a British Midland add-on to a regional airport, and under the contract there is an agreement in place to transfer baggage.

So it's right for 90%+ of PNR's, but this is not because it's on the same PNR.

Hope that's not too confusing?!! Unfortunately I can't find a link saying who has agreements with whom.
