Heathrow - is this possible?

  • Just another thought - could he arrange for his luggage to be collected from home for the flight to Goa and, in doing so, they would not have to wait to retrieve their luggage from the NCL flight thus giving them more time to get to check-in. Unsure whether they would have to check-in their luggage for the Goa flight or whether this could be done as part of collecting their luggage from home (I'm unsure how this works, someone else may used this service and can offer further info).

The other alternative would be to get their luggage collected from home and then catch the train (although I know they don't want to).

I'm not sure of the exact times. Dad just told me the dates and said it didn't clash with hubby's job (I need his car as I can't get suitcases in mine!) or the school run. Then Mam butted in to tell me about the short time between flights, and the actual flight times were forgotten!

I'll find out the proper times tomorrow.

I do know he doing online check in with Virgin before he leaves home.

I've only done this twice (so hardly a big sample data) but twice I couldn't drop my bags, there was a 'problem' and I had to check-in as normal.

I had that with BA on domestic flights between Newcastle and Gatwick for our holiday in April. We couldn't check in online at all for the outbound flight.

Then on the return flight, we tried to check in on the self service terminals but for some reason my youngest son had vanished off the booking, so it would only print 3 bording cards. We just cancelled that and went to the desk, and son was on the booking when they looked on their screen

Virgin flies from Heathrow to Mumbai at 21.45

the BA flights showing from Newcastle are one at 17.55 arriving Heathrow 19.05

Good news! That scenario is correct now.

When Dad booked the flights, the Virgin one left at 20.45, but for some unknown reason it's been put back to 21.45, which gives them an extra hour to play with!

If they land at 19.05 from Newcastle, they should make the 21.45 Mumbai departure - I think!

However coming home is still a problem.

The Mumbai flight lands in terminal 3 at 18.35 and the Newcastle one leaves at 20.05 from terminal 1. He's still got just the 90 minutes to transfer there.

That's the last Newcastle flight of the day, so if they miss it, they'll have to find a hotel or sleep in the airport till next morning and see if they can get new flights the following morning. It's not so bad having the problem coming home on the last leg, as I'm flexible to pick them up either day.

Thanks for all your help on this thread. Mam sends her thanks too!

I havnt looked at all this thread so sorry if its been posted...

if he looking at a heafty fee to change and doesnt want to pay them he could always use that fee to book a airport taxi.. mabey not cost as much only one way, worth checking out mabey..

also why not look at travelodge see if they doing a £15 deal on the date they due home.. if you could book it for £15 and they dont use it you only lose the £15 but its always a back up in case they need it ..

Taxi's are a big no-no, hence me driving them to the airport.

Dad thinks all taxi drivers will break into the house while they are on holiday

Travel Lodge is a good idea though. I'll pass that on.

I think you may have to have some alternative arrangement on standby for the return journey.

Checked last 2 days flights from Mumbai to London, both were delayed yesterday was an hour late, todays is late again, expected at 22.18.
