Well, any mouse that was silly enough to come into my house would be visiting mouse heaven very quickly. I have two really house-proud, sneaky siamese cats, you see. I don't have to wait for the mice to visit, my cats bring them to me! Usually headless!2013 NSD challenge 3/100 -

I'm with you Joanne on this.
I don't tolerate vermin at home nor on holiday. End of.
I too would have left immediately and claimed a refund.
I have rented holiday cottages in the wilds for many years and never found any evidence of mice, rats, squirrels, cockroaches nor any other insect infestations.
Put your review on Trip Advisor, Joanne, it's your civic duty to do so.0 -

I don't understand why some of you are giving the OP a hard time.
I wouldn't want mice in a place I had paid to stay in, so why should the OP?
And as for the OP putting food in the kitchen on the sides, were else was she meant to put it? In the bath?!
I'd like to see all those against the OP complaining, how they would put up with sharing their holiday living place with mice.
Someone suggested that OP should have just not eaten there. To eat out all the time would cost a fortune, so why should they if they have paid for a place with a kitchen??Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
so there are a few issues.
firstly, i too would have not reacted well to finding evidence of mice (had them at home, not fun, although the world did not end and we did not die! also, my home is not disgusting and i do not have poor hygiene standards, they really can just get anywhere. i'm sure lots of people have them without realising tbh).
secondly, why did the OP not have the emergency contact number? was all the information provided in advance via email and should the OP have taken a print out? in reality, most places would have a folder somewhere with some info so that is more annoying to me than the mouse issue!
thirdly, i wouldn't have walked out. i may have gone to the shops to buy some tupperware to put food in and some cleaning stuff for the surfaces so that i felt i could use the kitchen though. after staying and letting them try to sort it out, i might have asked for a partial refund for having spent time dealing with it, but that would entirely depend on the attitude of the people coming round to fix it (if they were efficient and apologetic, i wouldn't have been pushy with them).
there are issues on both sides here, but by walking out i think the OP lost any chance of a refund. i've been in hot countries and found cockroaches in accommodation (granted i screamed and ran away and let OH deal with them!), but i know that no matter how hard you try, in those climates it's almost impossible to permanently and completely get rid of them. we got some spray and got on with our holiday (not that there was the choice of going home immediately anyway, but it didn't cross our minds). i would, however, expect whoever was renting me a location to give me contact details (but that said, if i had been given them in advance and forgotten them, i'd take that on the chin - it's unclear whether that is what happened here though).:happyhear0 -
If it's any comfort to the OP, I too would have packed my bags and left.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

I'd be asking for money back as well. It's a hospitality business, they need to maintain a level of hygiene, they failed to do so.0

lol - believe me cleanliness has very little to do with it. If the OP had rented an old "charactor" property I would not be the least surprised she found a mouse.
Living by a farm in the country in a 200 year old rubblestone house there is absolutely no way to keep the little blighters out especially in late autumn when they are looking for warm winter quarters. They either burrow in under the walls ( no foundations) and climb up inside into the roof or up the outside of the walls and in under the eaves!
As long as you practice good food hygiene they are more of a noisy nuisance than anything else and a good set of traps sorts the problem out quickly. Until the next time.
Now fleas and cockroaches are another matter altogether.0
