Just on this, she doesnt need to consider expensive legal action. She can contact Tripadvisor and they will take untruthful replies from the system. Much cheaper.

Why do dog owners do that! It's not on. leave the dog at home or dont have one if you cannot get regular dogsitter for it.

Not so, the review looks genuine even if it is untruthful. The chap contacted Tripadvisor and they didn't want to know. The simply suggested he make use of the 'right to reply' facility that they provide.

It is on the basis of the legal advice that he has in that he has requested they remove libellous material to which they have so far refused to remove that he is considering action.

Blimey - there are some really dirty people on this board! Do any of you ever clean? There's no way I'd put up with mice in my house, anymore than I would cockroaches or fleas.

I rather take exception to that! I had a mouse problem and my house was far from dirty, all my food was put away and stored in plastic boxes so that wasnt the attraction.

Getting rid of mice isnt easy once theyre in. If youre ever unlucky enough to have any take residence youll see cleanliness isnt always a factor. Believe me it wasnt my choice to put up with them but theyre made of strong stuff and despite closing up holes, putting down traps etc the wee bandits still had parties in my walls

I would be happy with just a mouse..

We have to deal with mice, rats, c0ckroaches, snakes & ants. Mrs AO is on a mission to kill them all with ant powder, though i just hoover them up.

Im happy with the mice, rates & the ants. C0ckroaches kinda freak us out as its a walking tampon, and snakes we just run away.

Then what were they attracted to? I just don't buy the idea that it's impossible to keep mice out. If there's nothing to eat, they'll go elsewhere.

Some people seem to think living with mice is normal - it isn't. I can categorically say I've never lived in a house with mice (and I've lived in a few, both town and country).

Youre very lucky then, I lived in a flat and they were predominently in the communal loft area but came down the walls and into the flats. They dont need conventional food, they then start eating anything. They ate any paper that was around (I actually found paper shredded in drawers), wires at the back of the PC, burrow into furniture and eat stuffing etc, theyll go into any kind of cupboard and have a go at a whole manner of things. They chomped their way through a canvas bag I had! They never ever ate my food though!!

Oh if it was only as easy as keeping all your food out the way to get rid of them

I sincererly hope you never get them cos youre in for one hell of a shock when you realise how hard they are to get shot of

They do not have to accept that. (I work in the hotel management trade). They need to pursue and escalate this - just provide evidence of non stay, which should be easy, there will be an email thread presumably. No one has the right to write mistruths about their establishment. THis CAN be a grey area, but in this case it is cut and dry, they did not stay so did not experience what they said they did in their review - hence it is lies.

There is a massive industry debate about tripadvisor, the fact that anyone could write a review, including you or me who has never been to said establishment, but unless your friend wants to take this on, then as an owner they can do this without expensive legal action. But they might need to be persistent.

(It is also important, as an owner, to be very factual and dont get into arguments with customers on Ta, as other customers will be gauging that reacition but that is by the by)

Apologies to the OP for going a little off topic!!

I will pass on your advice, I must admit I was intrigued by their attitude and did a few googles myself. I was amazed to discover this is in fact a huge problem with some people using using the service to blackmail accommodation providers into giving them upgrades and free stays!!

Six pages because some lady found a mouse. Even Tom's 'Mammy' wouldn't have reacted like this.
