Do you think you need to go?

Would it put your mind at rest a little bit?

I've never had one so not much use on the boring advice. It does seem some areas are sending everyone regardless of whether they may have it or not.. shame they don't think the same about Strep B!!!

I have read the booklet and I know I am not considered high risk. I think my consultant booked me in for one because he is 'ticking every box' with this pregnancy. So, do I need to go? I suppose it won't hurt.

Would it put my mind at rest? Probably.

It is better to be safe than sorry isn't it.

I've got my GTT on Wednesday because of high BMI - hubby does it regularly as he's Type 2. I'm doing it so they can obviously treat if I have got it - diabetes can have awful side effects (blindness, nerve damage etc) so I'm not taking the risk for the sake of 2.5 hours of reading in a waiting room!

You're probably right. I'm sure lots of women who arn't "high risk" end up with GD and knowing my luck I will probably be one of them!

Yes, I will go. Good plan.

I agree! I had a GTT a few weeks ago, more precautionary than anything really but i found that it wasnt too bad, yes not eating is inconvenient but you arent going to die :) and the two blood tests are just blood tests, whats one more when we have so many in pregnancy anyways :)

I did find that i felt really drowsy after the drink and make sure you take a bottle of water with you so you can keep sipping becuase the stuff really does taste vile!

    Afternoon everyone,

Not posted for a few days as have been busy busy busy!

Saw the talk of the Sure Start Maternity Grant, I though it was just for people who didnt work? Or am I completely wrong there? I havent really looked into it but just assumed we wouldnt get it.
We get Working Tax Credits and will be enitled to around £1400 a year in Child Tax Credits when baby is here.
Does this mean we can claim the maternity grant?

Maybe I'm confused- how do you apply for WTC and CTC? The gov site leads to one calculator, which says I'm eligable for £500 a year- our wages are 17,000 and 22,000..... I know I'm probably missing something deadly simple?

I was told somewhere here we would be able to get it as although we both work we have a low income. We get WTC also so it would seem this doesnt help any with getting the grant. Guess it is best to wait til little one is here, if only I had known that I could have saved myself the time lol.

There should be a phone number on on the website that the calculator is on somewhere. Ring them up they will go through a few questions and tell you if they think you are entitled then they will send you a claim form out to fill in.
I have to ring back up when baby is born to let them know and then they will sort our CTC out as well.

Supermaiden - I just had a quick look on google and it seems that I could get it when baby is born, so i'll be with you on applying for that! Would be a bonus if I could get it as I thought we werent even entitled.

I think baby is doing somersaults, he hasnt stopped moving all day!

Anyway, I have a GTT test in about 2 weeks. Is it as painfully boring as it sounds?

I am not high risk in any way, although I think they are just being careful after last time. Do I really need to go? :(

    Yes, it's dull, take a book! :)

Whether you think you need to go is up to you, I had to have one due to BMI. I have to admit I thought it was going to be pointless and expected to breeze through it and was surprised when I got the call saying I had gestatational diabetes. Having read up on the effects it can have on the baby if it's not diagnosed I personally think it's worth a couple of hours out of your day :)

I've put on 12lbs at 29 weeks so I think I am doing ok but then I am a heifer and didn't need to gain anything :rotfl:

Yes, very much! Constipation is a major side effect of codeine unfortunately, so much so that I was actually prescribed it for a while for my IBS when I had the opposite problem!

Definitely talk to your doctor and see if they can give you something to counteract it I think.
